If any of you (particularly guitarists) get the chance, do not miss these guys. What an amazing performance. Super nice guys, too. After the show I approached Julian to buy a CD. We got talking music & guitars (surprise!) and he invited me into the dressing room to check out his '39 Martin. He handed it to me to try. I had to play guitar with Julian & Chris watching me. No pressure there, huh? He also let me try a very odd and unique Parker guitar. But I digress...

Go see these guys!

That is so cool!  Last time I saw them together, Chris was wearing his guitar and chatting on his cell phone in the alley before the show, and we had a little wave exchange :)  They are the nicest guys ever.  What a thrill to play Julian's vintage Martin!  I'm a novice player, but I have a vintage Gibson from around the same era, that belonged to my Dad.  My most prized possession.  I will be seeing them again the first week of May, and really looking forward to it.  Weirdly, Nels Cline is playing the same venue the next day, and I'm going to that one too.

The Zombies with "special guest Pat Sansone" tonight at The Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville. I'm curious to see whether Pat will just be an opening act or will join the Zombies. He's also doing an in-store appearance for RSD at Plan 9 Records at 2:00, in case anyone else can make it.

I'm going to do a little recon mission for Lockn' on the way up to C'ville, looking for housing possibilities. If I find anything interesting, I'll post on the Lockn' thread later.

Yes. Pat on acoustic, embellishd by a computer soundtrack on several songs. I think he would have been smart to tell the crowd those backing tracks were all him. Assuming they were. His set was solid but the crowd was still in drinking/talking mode, except in the front. Weird to see him acting as his own roadie--thinking of the swooning that goes on at Wilco shows. Must be strange to be a performer and realize how contextual all that adulation is.

Saw Giving Tree Band last Friday night at a community college in LaSalle IL. It was the first time I've seen them since they lost their fiddle and lap steel guitarist. It was an excellent show, lots of energy, some newish tunes too. Its a new band though, much more rockin, much less bluegrassy. I do miss the "highs" that Phil the fiddler provided. We'll see how things progress.

What -- no Josh?  I save my swooning for roadies with cowbells!  :chickawow

I'm supposed to be going to see Angel Olsen tonight, but I might have to stay home due to illness.

EDIT:  YAY!  I felt well enough to go.  Angel was terrific, and I was impressed with the opening act, Promised Land Sound.  They were reminiscent of Flying Burrito Brothers and other "cosmic country" bands from the late '60/early '70s, but a little more lead guitar oriented.

Milk Carton Kids in Boston!

Ha! When I walked out of last night's Slint show I turned to take a picture of the marquee and they had already changed it to the Milk Carton Kids.

I thought the Slint show was great.  Britt Walford is a monster. They were very tight.  Not much chatter or interaction, either with the audience or each other.
