Nice. How big is the crowd?

Very manageable in the VIP area up front. It's a large space in front of both stages. When we ventured outside the VIP area it was crowded for a while but then thinned out quickly as we move away from the stage.

I'm no expert on festivals, been to JazzFest a number of times and all Solid Sounds, this festival is run so well. The side by side stages are genius- music never stops for a second all day/night long. The sound system is the best I've heard (maybe since the Wall of Sound but I don't really remember that too well). Kudos to Peter Shapiro. And the lineup is getting better for me day by day.

Wilco! (Been too long since I've been able to post that in this topic.)

Oh yeah, also Gary Clarke, Jr., Tedeschi Trucks Band, Phil and Friends, Widespread with Stevie Winwood, Tom Petty, and late night acoustic Hot Tuna and Bustle in Your Hedgrow.

Can't wait for today to happen. I'd better go back to sleep.

Saw Dressy Bessy and The Baseball Project at the Bootleg Theatre in L.A. last night. Both acts were terrific! Mike Mills did a fun wander through the audience at one point. A very loud singalong to "Ted F. Williams" and a set-ending blistering "Amphetamine" were highlights for me.

solid set. i wasn't sure if Westerberg was drunk, or just that it sounded like he was mumbling and slurring stuff between songs. i dug it, though.

Agreed.  Very good and fun time.  Westerberg certainly flubbed some (lots) of the lyrics but I thought they sounded great.  Mix of songs and if anything it leaned towards earlier stuff (Takin' a Ride, I'm in Trouble, White and Lazy).  Nice cover of I Want You Back. Not too much banter but Westerberg's funniest line might have been "I smell weed. Fuckin hippies!"

yeah that weed banter was funny.

remphish1, the rain only happened on Saturday (the day i missed). Fri and Sun were perfect!

i was surprised there wasn't more people there...i'd only been to the Spring 2014 event, but there was definitely less people this time. weird, since you'd figure all the college students would be up for a music festival at the beginning of the school year.

i had no idea who 21 Pilots or The 1975 were, but the kids seemed to be into them. Spoon played a great set, best I've seen of them yet.

Bob Dylan (last night).

A lot better than I thought it was going to be. The recent stuff sounds fantastic live. Forgetful Heart was sublime.

i saw 2 of them in melbourne and i agree. he's found his mojo again - much better than the last 2 tours down here!. must be the real piano and the same setlist every night., but i was hoping for 'What good am 1? in on the 2nd show, instead of Workingmans blues!

Giving Tree Band this Saturday night at the old Lisle train depot. I saw them put on a great show there last year-they had the crowd really boogieing down and I expect more of the same on 9/13.

Saw Lyle Lovett last night, a thoroughly entertaining show.  It was my third time to see him, second time with the Large Band.  This was a pretty long show, almost 2 1/2 hours and he squeezed in almost every song you would expect, plus a few surprises.  I had never seen him do God Will, Church or North Dakota before.  Church was epic.  My Baby Don't Tolerate and I've Been to Memphis were also highlights.

Francine Reed was in the band this time and she is a show-stealer (you ugly too!).

It was a strange crowd.  The venue was the Lutcher Theater in Orange, Texas and the crowd was mostly old, rich patrons who have season tickets to every performance at the theater. They normally do broadway-style shows and plays, not popular music concerts.  It was full of blue-hairs on walkers and in suits and dresses.  I told my wife before the show that I didn't think Pete Townsend would be bashing Abby Hoffman with his guitar tonight.  She replied that if there was a fire, we would be the first ones out!  They laughed a lot at Lyle and even seemed ok with his risqué stuff like the ugly from the front bit.

The Large Band is terrific and Russ Kunkel is one of my favorite drummers.  Good stuff.

We saw the acoustic group last May.  Kunkel is indeed fantastic.  Check his credits on allmusic.com.  Impressive resume.  I think bringing some younger musicians aboard (not necessarily Kunkel) has re-energized Lovett.  It seems like maybe his best songwriting days may be behind him, but his performing is going through a Renaissance.
