ViaBuffalo
After a few listens of the new album this is easily my favorite track. This might be one of the best songs Jeff has ever written IMO. Anyone take a stab at the lyrics? I gave it a go, but it's a bit tough. This is how I’ll tell himOh, but its longOne Sunday MorningOh, one son is gone Against silhouette of dawn (?)Over the seaMy father said what I had becomeOh, what should be Outside I look clued inLike the poems in a shrineHow am I forgivenOh, I get time This I learned without wonderingOver my bow(?)In time you thought I would kill himOh, but I didn't know how I said its your God I don’t believe inNo, your bible cant be trueKnocked down by the long lifeHe cried I fear what waits for you I can hear those bellsSpoken and gone (?)I feel relief, I feel wellNow he knows he was wrong Hang him cold for my fatherFrozen undergroundJesus I wouldn't botherHe belongs to me now Something sad keeps movingSo I, wander aroundI fell in love with the burden Holding me down Bless my mind I missBeing told how to liveWhat I learned without knowingHow much more that I owe than I can give This is how I tell himOh, but its longOne Sunday MorningOne son is gone
-seven
This song does deserve its own thread. I can't stop listening to it and it gets better with each listen. It's such a heartbreaking story, so beautifully written.
mpolak21
One Sunday Morning, when I'm straightI'm going to open up your gate... Wait a minute, wrong song.
parisisstale
There's so many exquisite sounds throughout that I've yet to even focus on the lyrics......so great. Also, since I left the link up past the 24 hours it's still playing just this song Sweet!
Magnetized
Courtesy of Knotgreen, Via Buffalo, Kidsmoke and maybe others who have gotten started on the lyrics, I am transcribing what sounds like the correct version, but with still a couple of places where I'm unsure: This is how I’ll tell himOh, but its longOne Sunday morningOh, one son is gone Against silhouetted dawningOver the seaMy father said what I had becomeNo one should be Outside I look lived inLike the bones in a shrineHow am I forgiven?Oh, I get time This I learned without wandering (warning?)Holding my brow (?)In time you thought I would kill himOh, but I didn't know how I said it's your God I don’t believe inNo, your Bible can't be trueKnocked down by the long life (light?)He cried I fear what waits for you I can hear those bellsSpoken and goneI feel relief, I feel wellNow he knows he was wrong Hang 'em cold for my fatherFrozen undergroundJesus, I wouldn't botherHe belongs to me now Something sad keeps movingSo I, wander aroundI fell in love with the burden Holding me down Bless my mind I missBeing told how to liveWhat I learned without knowingHow much more that I owe than I can give This is how I'll tell himOh, but its longOne Sunday morningOne son is gone Like a few others, I didn't close the window where the album was streaming, so I can continue to play just this one song over and over again. I guess when I need to reboot my computer I'll lose it, but till then it's going to be in heavy rotation.

holyshit
Thanks for the fix! The guys really conjured up a keeper with this one. It's pure magic. (I'm so glad they use their powers for good.) To my ears, though, it sounds like "how I'll tell it" at the beginning and end, and maybe "long lie" in the 5th verse. We'll just have to wait another three long weeks to find out for sure. parisisstale
While it's waaaay too early for me to rank TWL, I can easily say that the best opener/closer combo ranks right up there with IATTBYH/Reservations.
Guest kechefs
I simply cannot stop listening to this song
Ghost of Electricity
I must admit I'm not (yet?) fully convinced by the other two slow, accoustic numbers on the record (Black Moon and Rising Red Lung) but this one has it all- story line, melody, hooky riff, sonic detail, and after 12 minutes you're perfectly happy going back and playing it again. This may be one of the strongest things Wilco has ever done.
JAK2112
I've always heard "This is how i'll tell her" at the beginning, but maybe that's just me. This might also be my all time favorite wilco song, but maybe that's just me as well.

It will be interesting if our comments hold up in 3 yrs but hell Im really Loving the depth and smooth sound of it, along w/those well crafted lyrics!

TheGoof45
This might be a little out there, but does anyone else see a possible connection between this song and Dreamer in my Dreams? Perhaps a reflective reawakening of the dreamer killed off in that song?
-seven
Do you think they will be playing this one live? I certainly hope so but I get the sense it might be one of those songs that makes rare appearances.

mpolak21
Well with the reaction it's getting if they do the online request thing again, One Sunday Morning will certainly be in demand. I'd hope a lot of this album works it way intothe live sets. They can pull the quieter stuff off, hell I've heard them open with Radio Cure before. A lot of these songs will translate well live I think. --Mike
Lukestar
(I'm so glad they use their powers for good.) I'm with you. Thank you Wilcoman.
A Radio Cure
I'm not sure, but I hear "holding my proud" instead of "holding my brow"also "knocked down by the long lie"I'm really not sure about this one, but maybe it's "I am cold for my father"And i definitely hear "this is how I'll tell it"
JAK2112
I've also always heard "Knocked down by the long lie", which in context would make sense since we're talking about Jane Smiley's boyfriend's view of his fathers religiousness.
lazy locomotives
One Sunday Morning is already a Wilco classic, easily on a par with IATTBYH and Misunderstood - and the album isn't even officially released yet. It's truly one of the most beautiful things they've ever done.
radiatortunes
Well with the reaction it's getting if they do the online request thing again, One Sunday Morning will certainly be in demand. I requested it for both Massey Hall shows. Right now "OSM" and "Whole Love" are my favourite tracks. Opposite ends of the emotional spectrum. And I love how one follows the other to bring the record to a close.
