uncool2pillow
Kent and Kirby (even Kirby for a girl)Harmon and Rod were on the long list. But, let's face it, they're just not great names. We went with Henry and Hayden (girl). There is a sports connection for one of them. No, not Hank Aaron.
Winston Legthigh
Nice to see Bonderman back. (for U2roolz, wherever he may be)
calvino
The White Sox are on a roll, 3 in row and they are wins for once....god, this season can't get over fast enough - Go Pirates!
The High Heat
Charlie Manuel is out in Philly, announcement at 2:30. I hope he takes Ryan Howard, J-Roll, the GM, and the entire bullpen with him.
calvino
Good for Ryno - should be interesting when he brings his team to Wrigley in a couple of weeks.
KevinG
Good for Ryno - should be interesting when he brings his team to Wrigley in a couple of weeks. Yeah good for old Ryno! I would imagine he will get a nice ovation when he comes to Wrigley. Both teams aren't very good unfortunately.
The High Heat
I really like Charlie Manuel, but we all knew this would be his final year in Philly. He still wants to manage, but he's 69; so he's probably looking at being a mid-season replacement, if anything. I'll always appreciate him for the '08 season!
Sweet Papa Crimbo
Charlie deserved much better. Reuben Amaro offered all those ugly contracts to aging players.
KevinG
Braun is gonna find himself on the losing end of a big lawsuit soon. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ryan-braun-tried-to-discredit-urine-collector-in-calls-to-mlb-stars-021053235.html I love the fact how Braun tried to discredit the sample taker with the fact he was Anti-Semitic and a Cubs fan. Ha!
The High Heat
On that note, Kirk Gibson would like to have a word with Mr. Braun. I'd like to be a fly on the wall for that conversation. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130818&content_id=57401418&vkey=news_ari&c_id=ari
uncool2pillow
So long Justin Morneau. I hope Liriano and Morneau help the Pirates go all the way.
Sir Stewart
Well at the very least, the Pirates will not have a losing season!
The High Heat
Two interesting free agents this offseason: Joe Girardi and Ron Gardenhire. There are rumors floating around about Girardi returning home to the Cubs, who like Dale Sveum, but aren't in love with him either. The building process could accelerate with a guy like Girardi. The Yankees aren't looking so illustrious anymore with the retirements of Rivera and Pettitte and the uncertainty of Jeter, Teixiera, Sabathia, Cano, and A-Rod. Gardenhire could become the next Bruce Bochy if he were to go to the Nationals. While the Twins have some very exciting hitting prospects on the verge of coming up, their pitching is a long, long way off. Gardenhire is an underrated manager who could more likely win a championship in DC than in the Twin Cities. Leaving San Diego sure did work wonders for Bochy's career. uncool2pillow
I'd hate to see Gardy go, but he deserves a shot with a team filled with talent.
Oil Can Boyd
I knew the Red Sox would be better than they were last year but I didn't expect them to win the AL East. Seems like much of what changed was addition by subtraction - starting with the manager - and it will be interesting to see how deep they go in the playoffs.
bleedorange
I would take either one of them in a heartbeat for the Rangers.
KevinG
The only reason to let Dale Sveum go is to get Joe Girardi. The Cubs product is not the manager's fault, he is not been given the talent to win more than 60 some games. The Cubs are still 2-3 year form being good (and really good at that). Though to be fair something has to be done about Castro. Castro should be hitting like .290 plus but only a paltry .240. If you can't get him back on track it is time to make a change at manager. The High Heat
Robinson Cano is seeking a 10 year/$305MM contract. I guess he doesn't like being out-crazied by Carlos Gomez.
The Inside of Outside
Robinson Cano is seeking a 10 year/$305MM contract. I guess he doesn't like being out-crazied by Carlos Gomez. He'll get neither. Maybe 8 years? Maybe 180 million? If owners are smart (and they have proven time and again not to be), the era of the 10 year/$200+ million contract is past. Has there been a 10 year deal that worked out well for a team? Guest Jules
How many have there been?
The High Heat
Dave Winfield's ten year Yankees contract is the only one I can think of that panned out.
Winston Legthigh
Jeter's, from 2001-2010 wasn't bad. And A-Rod's first 10 year contract (from 2001-2010) wasn't bad, from a performance standpoint (whether or not he was worth the $252 million is another story). He won 3 MVPs (in the 3rd, 5th, and 7th years). Was still getting MVP votes in 2010.
