anthony
I would be hard pressed to say Wilco is my favorite band. If push came to shove, I would have to say Zeppelin.
Yaz Rock
The question I ask myself is, if my favorite bands were playing two nearby venues the same night, same time, which one would I pick to see? I've had show conflicts for sure but not at the top level. So here's my order in that case. 1. Pearl Jam2. Soul Asylum3. Wilco4. Old 97sor maybe Wilco 3A and Old 97s 3B to be determined by coin-toss. mpolak21
They might not be my favorite, but they live in that neighborhood.

lamradio
I would agree that The Beatles are the greatest rock band of all time. I'm a fan.. My parents are fans. My 78 year old Grandmother is a fan. My 9 year old son and 4 year old daughter are fans. How many bands can you say that about?

I like this method, too, and I might have the Old 97s be my number one as well, if only because the last two times I had tickets to see them (both "Too Far to Care" album shows!) I had to miss out for family reasons. They kick ass live, and most of their records are good-to-great, but they have a few forgettable ones in the catalog. That said, Wilco is my favorite band. I like all the albums (though some are better than others), and there are very few dud songs. I could say the same thing about the Beatles, but I never saw the Beatles live, and I've never experienced a "new" Beatles record, so I'll never have the same relationship with them that I have with Wilco. Doug C
The only bands that I have never missed nor will miss live are The Old 97s and Wilco. If they were playing the same night... I'd go to the 97s. There are few things more fun and enjoyable than an Old 97s show.

Pure, timeless genius. Wilco is probably my favorite band currently working. Certainly the best live band, and the only one I'll travel a fair distance to see every chance I get. I didn't want it to end. Thanks for the Beatles debate here, motivated me to play some. Went with Meet the Beatles (mono versions) from the Capitol Albums Vol. 1 set. Kim Bodnia
Fortunately or unfortunately the Beatles carry so much weight in all aspects of the music business. Once on this forum I had one of my posts deleted because I said that I didn't (don't) like them (hopefully this one won't be deleted) ever since I have refrained from mentioning the band here or in any other forum, just abstain from all Beatles discussions (in a spirit of live and let live). I truly understand the love people have for such a legendary band, that enthusiasm should not be much different from the passion and commitment that I have for my favourite bands. I think next year if everything's ok I may travel abroad to see my favourite guitarist in concert and ask him to sign my LPs the whole trip may end up costing a fortune but it's something I want to do. chriscolbert
No, but it's not really their fault. I feel like if I had been born 10 years earlier it would be R.E.M. or 5 years later it would be Wilco, but as it stands... 1. Pearl Jam2. R.E.M.3. Wilco I will say I have come a long way in my musical tastes to some degree. If you had told me 15 years ago that my all-time top three wouldn't include Soundgarden or Alice in Chains I wouldn't have believed you. I'm very much a product of the Seattle explosion of the early nineties, though Nirvana will always be overrated.
Beltmann
Wilco is my favorite band. I respond deeply to their music, of course, but that's only a starting point and not the main reason why they top my list; after all, I can think of another dozen bands with records that I love equally, maybe more. But a "band" is more than just a collection of songs. The reason Wilco tops my list is because of the total package and all of the ancillary details: The music, yes, but also all of the other important facts that have made a major imprint on my life--the history; the shows; the solo shows; the impact the music made on me when I most needed it; this message board; the generosity of this board when my family experienced loss; the people that I've met, including Jeff; the relationships cultivated as a direct result of Wilco; the memories. No other band has carved out such an important, long-lasting space in my life, and even when the music fades, or even when new music leaves me cold, that imprint remains and always will. The affection I feel for this band transcends their music.

Ghost of Electricity
The term "favorite band" doesn't have as much meaning for me as it did twenty years ago, or even ten. What does it mean, really? does it mean that I listen to them more than any other band? Does it mean they've had more of an affect on my life than any other band? Does it mean (as someone suggested) that they're the band I would see live, if given a choice? Are we talking right now at this moment or in the scope of my entire life? What counts as a band? Does Dylan count? Sparklehorse? Are we considering the body of work as a whole or the importance of just the best examples? The more I think about it, the more I don't want to. froggie
I think Eric nailed it. the music, the vibe, the fans i've got know in person and online (even the band), when i have wilco playing, they're my favourite. all others come a close second depending what day it is.
