A-rod is not only suing MLB but his own union, the MLBPA. Wow, the (by now likely shriveled) balls on this guy.

He's a mad dog. If Kaiser George were still alive, Alex might find himself the victim of an accident.

Wow.

After watching the 60 Minutes Piece last night, my opinion has changed 180 degrees.

162 may not have been enough.

I'm not convinced that the league is really cleaning up. The technology of biomedical science is far outpacing the ability to test.

I am hoping and praying that Pujols and Ortiz aren't juicers who are still juicing. I don't think I could stand that.

What was new out of the 60 minutes piece? That really changed your mind? Players are still using PEDs today. It's just a reality.

nobody came out looking good in the a-rod mess

if anything, alex might be the more sympathetic figure here, since selig and co went out of their way to make him the poster child for a widespread problem thats likely never going away. im not defending him by any means (though of course im pissed that the guy had all the talent in the world from the very beginning and his legacy is forever tainted by all the various headlines, both PED related and otherwise, over the years) but major league baseballs campaign made me uncomfortable

meanwhile the dodgers just locked kershaw up for 7 years/215 million, but he can opt out after 5 and become a free agent at 30. big money for sure but im shocked at the short length.

i know, it hurts to say it. im by no means an a-rod fan (he pretty much made his own bed several times over the years, both with the lies and the generally bizarre behavior on and off the field, so he cant be shocked that its come to this) but the way mlb went after him with a penalty immediately way beyond those agreed to by the players union sets a dangerous precedent in my opinion. not to mention the fact that their entire case was built on a witness they paid off throughout the process, and not on any failed tests.

its classic bud selig. well intentioned but terribly executed. im not as personally outraged by steroids as a lot of older folks, but i obviously dont mind making it a priority to clean up the game. focusing this hard on one guy as a scapegoat wasnt the right way to do it in my opinion.

Holy crap A-Rod come out looking like more of a thug than previously thought. 556 text messages regarding illegal "meds," and he has the audacity to sue MLB and his own union saying he was mis-led or railroaded or whatever. Fuck him and his shady lawyer.

The Twins have done next to nothing this off season.  Build a new stadium because you need it to stay competitive.  Whatever.  They're still small market, but not making any smart choices so far as I can tell.

Signing Nolasco, Hughes, and Kurt Suzuki, along with keeping Gardenhire, is far more than I expected the Twins to accomplish this offseason. It's difficult for any rebuilding team to sign decent players. You've got a couple of hitting studs that'll be along shortly. When they get to the bigs, that's the time to be aggressive in making additions. Otherwise they'll be the 2000-2010 Orioles, a fourth place team with high-paid players. That won't get you to the playoffs or high end draft picks. You really want one or the other, not the middle.

where's Tanaka going?

I'm feeling Dodgers- seems like they saved (?) some $$$ at a cool $215 with a 5 year bail clause.

3 weeks til pitchers and catchers!

Dodgers, Yankees or Cubs.

I'm afraid the Ranger ownership has lost their nerve.

They have a huge television contract kicking in, but they are reluctant to spend the money to take a run at Tanaka, even after they lose the #3 starter to injury.

Getting to the series two years had the fan base at a fever pitch. I'm beginning to think that they are going to be content with contending in the West and pulling 3 million in attendance.

After the Fielder and Choo deals, I thought JD had convinced the boys to go all out this year. Now, we are looking to fill a rotation spot by 'stretching out' Scheppers or Ross.

Ugh.

I think I've seen this story before.

That Tanaka contract is ridiculous. I would want no part of that. There are still low-cost pitching options out there to add some depth to the rotation. Plus there's no need to go "all out" in any year. They've strengthened the offense. There's certainly no need to panic after Holland's injury and start throwing money at the problem.

I'm all about the Panic.

It's not so much that JD didn't convince the owners to crack open the printing presses; it's that the Rangers never even talked to Tanaka or his reps.

This is not a small market team. The Rangers drew over 3.1 million in this terrible summer weather placing fifth on the home attendance list.

JD has fallen in love with some prospects who are proving to not be worth the adulation. Cody Buckel is the latest example. Reportedly, a deal for Justin Upton (the Upton brother who didn't flame out in Atlanta last year)fell through last year because JD wouldn't include Buckel in the deal.

Remember how Micheal Olt was going to be the next infield star? Traded with Grimm to Chicago for the rag armed Garza (getting real tired of those rent-a pitchers). I wonder how many deals fell through because JD wouldn't include Olt in the mix.

I don't want to complain too much. I remember back in the early 80's when the Rangers traded Ron Darling and Walt Terrell for Lee Mazzili.

I don't know why you're ready to give up on Buckel already. See if he's worked through it.

I don't know if I'd deep 6 a deal for the sake of a (then) 20 year old pitcher. Justin Upton ain't Lee Mazzili and Cody Buckel ain't Ron Darling.

I would. Young, homegrown pitching talent is the most valuable commodity of a baseball franchise. Also, we're not talking about a "can't miss" superstar in Justin Upton. He'd be a nice piece, but not worth giving up a valuable pitching prospect. He had a two great months surrounded by 4 bad ones. Choo's a better player, and I like the current outfield of Choo, Martin, and Rios.
