calvino
It looked like the same house to me, too --- I thought the doc was great. I feel for Trixie Garcia, but not sure she was needed in the film. Bit of footage and pictures I never seen before - which was cool -- esp. the picture where Garcia and Weir are walking away from the camera in a large crowd, towards a large, grand building - it looked like that they were walking in a European street. The scuba diving footage was pretty cool, too. The bits about Weir's family were nice too - the whole real father getting in the picture.
Analogman
His birth parents must have been young when he was born. They don't look all that much older than him. I had not heard the 6,000 gigs number before. I wonder if that is true.

I've also seen pics of them on the Tower, looking out over Paris. Same clothes.

I looked through the book that came with the 72 set and the pic wasn't in that - plus all the shots in the book, they had colder weather clothes on, which makes sense since the 72 tour was during spring. Perhaps the pic was from 74 or 71, when they were in Europe. Or perhaps it was the only warm and sunny day during the 72 tour...
Mr. Heartbreak
Finally found my copy of Dave's 11...apparently, someone burned me a copy. So no need for the drop box, but thanks for the offer! Now I just need to save a copy for my external HD.

worldrecordplayer
Just finished watching the Weir documentary. Loved it, a "must watch" in my book. The guy went and created the reality of his dreams. The director does a nice job shining the light on Weir as really the most unique second guitar player. Could watch his guitar playing all the time, especially those '72-74 China/Riders. calvino
Yep. She was my backyard neighbor at the time. Forgot that you mentioned that a while ago ----- didn't realize (or forgot) about Weir's and his wife's history, either. Enjoyed the performance with the National - good stuff. I would recommend to other ones too.Quick question - Who was playing bass with Bob during the closing credits? He looked like the same guy playing bass with Billy Idol on the Guitar Center Sessions. Winston Legthigh
Huh, really? Wild. She was 2-3 years older than me. She was the 3rd out of 4 sisters. My two older sisters hung out with them. I remember that they owned some horses out in the country, and after they invited my sisters out to ride them, it's all my sisters were into. Horses this and horses that. I knew the family well - we always sheltered in their mud room while waiting for the school bus, and they were always involved in neighborhood shenanigans: kick the can, hide-n-seek, etc. I remember they had an Intellivision, which I thought was awesome, and they also had HBO. I got grounded after my parents found out I watched Caddyshack over there. I'm guessing she must have met him at an Alpine Valley show in the early 80s? But, she was a senior when I was a freshman, IIRC, (at different high schools), so I didn't have much contact with her after that. At the time, the high school she went to always had a large contingent of Dead Heads, which I thought odd. (Then again, the high school I went to had a somewhat large contingent of dudes who were into Skynyrd, and wore clogs. They were known as "The Southerns" and hung a confederate flag in the cafeteria at their table during lunch! This was at a Catholic high school. I swear my memory can't be right, but I've since discussed this with classmates, and they agree with me) But, in the summer, the dead head kids used to go to Alpine Valley shows en masse - something I had always heard about, and which certainly contributed to my going there in the late 80s. jw harding
What is the age difference with Weir? Gotta be in the 20 to 30 yr range. Can't really blame either of them.

He was born in 47, and she was younger than my sister, but older than me, so she was prob born in 66 or 67.
Winston Legthigh
Splurged this weekend on a bunch of the Europe 72 volumes: 4/8: Wembley, London4/14: Tivoli Concert Hall, Copenhagen4/24: Rheinhalle, Dusseldorf4/26: Jahrhundert, Frankfurt5/3: L'Olympia, Paris5/10: Concertgebouw, Amsterdam5/11: Civic Hall, Rotterdam Half way through the Copenhagen show (get most of my listening done on my commute to/from work). Really enjoying the shows so far, and I actually enjoy Looks Like Rain from both London and Copenhagen! Is Jerry playing a pedal steel for those? I think that's the difference for me (in enjoying these versions - not a fan of the song usually). Both Dark Stars have segued into Sugar Magnolia thus far. Looking forward to the rest of the tour. Any other "must have" shows from the tour? I didn't see any of the Strand shows (the final 4 shows of the tour) for sale individually, but I've read that these are great. (I know - the whole tour is great...)

Yep, Jerry played pedal steel on LLR during at least part of '72, if not all of it. There is a pretty nice version of it on the most recent Dave's Picks, too. I have not acquired 4/8 yet, but I love that 4/14 Copenhagen show you're listening to. I've had that, 5/25 & 5/26 for years, and those are "must have" shows, IMO. When the soundboards were floating around out there, I downloaded them. Beyond that, it looks like you might have just picked up the best ones right there. The only other one I have that you didn't mention is the 4/16 show without Donna. I got that so I could have a Europe Playin' in the Band without her screams, and it's great; on the other hand, her screams in Europe really aren't that bad. Kind of low in the mix. By '74, it was a whole other level, though.
mountain bed
5/26 is almost a perfect show, imo. I'd get the 5/4 for the Dark Star, if nothing else. It's possibly my favorite from the tour. 5/18 has the very first (of an even dozen) Dark Star > Dew.
Lammycat
"It's All Too Much" is the best thing Vince brought to the table with the GD. I love this '95 Philly show (I know, I know '95?!!!!!!). The All Too Much is excellent, followed by a kick-ass "Aiko" and letter in the set, a magnificent and touching "Visions"...If you generally ignore 90s/particularly '95, consider the below: https://archive.org/details/gd95-03-18.sbd.1362.sbeok.shnf ed. Some of the best (re: my favorite) 'Stella Blue"s were from the last few years, too. Garcia would often extent the playing/vocals into new territory.

So if you're looking for more single shows, I'd track down whichever shows the NFA>Bo Diddley>NFA, adn Rockin Pneumonia and Dark Star>Sugar Mag are from and get those. Not to say you shouldn't get any of the other shows represented on this set, get em all!
