I watched that a while back. I will say he had some great songs early on - but a lot of that later stuff is awful.

The stuff in the 80's when he was trying to be Huey Lewis was a low point. Been listening to his Live in Austin album this week. Real strong. The doc is great and worth watching. Have to say that Tweedy does Give Back the Key to My Heart Better. Doug's voice is not always my favorite. I think his influence on Dylan is understated, going up through some of Dylan's recent albums with the Tex Mex sound with Hidalgo on accordion.

He's one of those people that I just stick to Youtube when I want to hear him. This is also due to I looked up some stuff I may have actually bought and it was out of print. And therefore going for stacks of money.

The songs he was writing/performing in Europe - seemingly each one with a city's name in the title... Man...

At least at the end of his career, he could hang his hat on the Texas Tornados. I recall the album SDQ '98 being good. It was one of his last ones.

For the attendees of the Alpine Valley Shows that are still looking for camping locations - I just located a private campground (Bark River campgrounds) that has shuttle service to/from Alpine.

That was a clincher for me.

It's about 25 miles NW from Alpine.

Looks like I'm only going to the Saturday show... If anyone wants lawn tickets to the Friday night show, on the cheap, I have 2 for sale.

I had already planned to go to the Telluride bluegrass music fest that weekend. So I shall not attend the Alpine shows...have fun...

I've gotta make it back to that fest sometime soon. Have you been in awhile? It's been about 18 yrs since, for me. My ex still takes the kids.

This must be one of the "things" David was talking about in his video the other day:

As part of the band’s ongoing 50th anniversary series, the Grateful Dead will release a two-CD deluxe edition and a special picture disc vinyl edition of Anthem of the Sun on July 13.

The album combines studio cuts and live recordings of early Dead favorites like “Alligator,” and the two-disc package (mastered by Grammy winner David Glasser) includes two versions of Anthem, one “from the original 1968 mix,” and the other from the “more well-known 1971 mix.” The vinyl version (limited to just 10,000 copies) will just include the 1971 mix.

The Anthem of the Sun 50th anniversary double CD edition also includes a previously unreleased live cut of a October 22, 1967 show at the Winterland in San Francisco. Interestingly this 10/22/67 show is the first known appearance of percussionist Mickey Hart, who joined the band just one month prior.

“This is one the most thrilling albums the Grateful Dead ever produced, mixing portions of live recordings from the first six months of Mickey’s tenure with the band, along with studio experimentations that would hint at where the Dead would go when they started recording to 16-track tape the following year,” Grateful Dead archivist and producer David Lemieux said in a statement. “The 1971 remix, produced in order to make the album more accessible to the newer fans who were brought on board with Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty, has been the most commonly heard version for the past 45+ years. However, having this side-by-side with the original 1968 mix demonstrates countless differences, with the original mix being more primal, psychedelic, and experimental.”

This will be my first time. Coming from Madison I will need to adjust for the elevation...

Yeah, couple thousand ft. higher in elevation than Denver. Great venue/area, of course. Great hiking across town (Bridal Veil Falls), too, if you're into that thing.

Yeah. We're getting close to May as well, which is usually a box set announcement time.

Also on the Fall from the Phil Zone - the below was released --- I would be completely fine with an audience release. (Just make sure the taper gets a least a liner note credit).

It would bring up the whole argument - if the band makes money off the audience recording - should the taper?

I say the taper does not necessarily deserve to be paid - though they should at least to get a free copy of the remaster.

The album also includes "Hard To Handle" from an audience tape of the 8/6/71 concert. The audience recording was chosen because of the high quality.

Getting ready to have a listening party with another one of my composite best of the year compilations.  This time its 1982.

As always the goal is to recreate a semblance of a given show for that year, trying to make it all highlights or peak performances, taking liberties to make it a bit longer than they actually played, but still trying to stay somewhat close to something they might have actually played in setlist and sequence, etc.

Here's what i finally came up with:

Mississippi Half Step > 8-3-82 KC
Franklin's Tower           8-3-82
Minglewood Blues        8-3-82
They Love Each Other  4-14-82 Glenn Falls, NY
Its All Over Now            4-6-82 Philly
Big Railroad Blues        8-3-82
On The Road Again      8-10-82 Iowa
BIODTL                         8-10-82
Stagger Lee                  8-10-82
Mama Tried                   4-6-82
Candyman                    4-6-82
Lazy Lightning               8-6-82 St. Paul
Jackaroe                       4-6-82
Music Never Stopped   7-31-82 Manor Downs, TX
China Cat>Rider          10-10-82 Frost

Shakedown Street        8-3-82
Samson                        8-3-82
Playin'>                         10-10-82
Crazy Fingers               10-10-82
Sailor>Saint                  10-10-82
Terrapin                         4-6-82
The Wheel                    10-10-82
GDTRFB                       9-17-82 Portland Maine
Morning Dew                4-6-82
Sugar Magnolia            10-10-82

Satisfaction                    10-10-82
All Over Now Baby Blue 10-10-82

Any glaring omissions or better versions of songs listed?
