anyone else who wants to read it just send me an email address and I'll send it out

It is a very cool article, rare to see such an in depth and behind the scenes look at the band and their fans. It was also included as the liner notes to Dick's Picks 31, but cool to see what the hard copy looked like, and I'm sure nice to have it as a keepsake of the experience.

I had no idea this same article is in the liner notes of DP 31. I've been holding onto this newspaper since 1974, its made every move with me.  I never bought this DP release because they cut up the show and didn't release it in its entirety, so with such an excellent soundboard in circulation never felt the need to get it.

Speaking of older stuff - looking through a place were I keep old letters (letters, ha!) I came across the "This Darkness Got to Give" letter that the Dead were distributing throughout the Soldier Field lot in 95 -- must of put it in my pocket - at least is was all folded up.  (at least I think got it in the lot -  it may have been  mailed out to people on the mailing list)

Been listening to the May 7, '72 Bickershaw Fest show today, and I spent some time looking up any articles about the fest.

Both Elvis Costello and Joe Strummer were in the crowd, and apparently Elvis was very inspired by the Dead.

Captain Beefheart also played the festival, and I found this hilarious diary of one LSD-addled attendee:

For those of you in Chicago over the 4th, who don't have a ticket to the Soldier Field shows, Terrapin Flyer is playing at Martyrs.

That's kinda of cool -- looks like Martyrs will showing the Dead shows via webcast, too - sounds like it might be a fun night.

It's amazing all the events happening around these shows around all of Chicago --- even the Field Museum is getting in the action. http://www.fieldmuseum.org/at-the-field/programs/everything-dead-field-museum

This is great!  Thanks for the link.  Not sure why Mayer is there.  Does not fit and not necessary playing his cliche solos.  I so wish Stu was playing the Fare Thee Well shows.  Let Bruce sing all of Jerry's songs and drop Jeff, while we're at it.  Lesh is more, IMHO.

I thought the below was pretty good - Mayer with Phil and others, including Stu Allen - Guitar & Vocals and Scott Metzger - Guitar & Vocals.

Mayer had some good licks - the Row Jimmy was a stand out.

Watched a bit of this the other night.  I thought it was some damn fine playing.

Don't know if this is already been posted here...

Grateful Dead members planning full-scale tour with John Mayer Surviving members will reportedly hit the road in October

Many fans of the Grateful Dead were unable to acquire tickets to the band’s reunion shows at Chicago’s Soldier Field this July, prompting the announcement of two additional dates in their hometown of Santa Clara, California. Despite the heavy demand, the band announced it “would not be adding any more Fare Thee Well performances. The three Chicago shows will still be our final stand. We decided to add these two Santa Clara shows to enable more of our fans to celebrate with us one more time. But this is it.”

However, those plans may have again changed: According to Billboard, members of the Grateful Dead are plotting a full-scale tour to take place in the fall. And while the summer shows will feature Phish frontman Trey Anastasio filling the void of Jerry Garcia, plans for the full tour include John Mayer as Grateful Dead’s replacement singer.

Mayer is reportedly already rehearsing with members of the Dead for the tour, which would kick off in October. A representative for the band called the report “premature,” though Billboard cites multiple insiders who have knowledge of the band’s plans.

The promoter behind the band’s Fare Thee Well performances, Peter Shapiro, says any future tour wouldn’t be billed under the Grateful Dead banner. He tells Billboard, “What you won’t see is the four surviving members together saying goodbye in this kind of way. This is it. Chicago is the end, and Santa Clara is leading into the end. But like a great Dead tune, it will evolve and they will wander around on their own.”

Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir appeared on CBS’ Late Late Show when Mayer served as guest host back in February. Below, watch the pair perform “Althea”.

Grateful Dead 2015 Tour Dates:
06/27 – Santa Clara, CA @ Levi’s Stadium
06/28 – Santa Clara, CA @ Levi’s Stadium
07/03 – Chicago, IL @ Soldier Field
07/04 – Chicago, IL @ Soldier Field
07/05 – Chicago, IL @ Soldier Field

Giving a spin to disc 5 of the Winterland '73 box, specifically the Playin > UJB > Dew > UJB > Playin segment. Has to be among the best of the Grateful Dead to my ears. Can't get enough 73 Dead. The audio for this box is crazy good.

RE: John Mayer tour-I'd be surprised if Phil or Billy were involved in this. Will this be Ratdog with Mayer? If Phil does tour then why did Furthur break up? That would kind of piss me off. I will say that I'd take Mayer over Trey any day. Not a fan of his stage presence, but at least he solos.

Curious how things will go next weekend.

Mayer at this point would likely deliver more note for note perfect solos, but to my ears kind of generic and empty. With Trey, greater risk and reward. He can hang with them if they take it out there. Mayer can't. I'm not sure these shows are meant to take it out there though, seems it's more about celebrating the great songs. Hoping for a few moments of dancing on the edge of magic at least. My opinion, like much in the Grateful Dead world, everyone has a different perspective and preferences.
