  1. yeah, I'm not really fond of that song. Basically the opening run of Nuclear, Hallelujah, You Wil Always Be The Same etc. is just awesome np
  2. these are my favorites I dont know if they're the best but I love em East of Eden- John Steinbeck To Kill a Mockingbird- Harper Lee History of Love-Nicole Krauss Beloved-Toni Morrison The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven- Sherman Alexie
  3. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite Ryan albums. I just love every song on it
  4. Islands has strings in there band. I think they use them quite well
  5. did you like it? I grabbed it the other night and am really enjoying a lot of it. Not as catchy as their EP but pretty good NP: Mirah- (A)spera
  6. I've lived in Milwaukee for almost five years now and used to live about a block away from Atomic Records. As much as I love independent music stores, Atomic was one of the worst I've seen. They have a lot of cred around here but truthfully their selection is pretty small and almost everyone who works there fits the "HIgh Fidelity" model of I'm cooler then you and you're stupid for liking the music that you like. I'm sad to see them go, but I can't say I'm too surprised
  7. I've recently been introduced to Furthermore beer and it is by far my favorite beer of the moment. It's brewed somewhere in northern wisconsin and its hard to find. Even in Milwaukee I can only find it in a couple liquor stores. But if you do see it grab the Fatty Boombalaty and enjoy the hell out of it
  8. these guys are easily my favorite modern jazz group. Just so good. If you are enjoying them you should seek out a group called Fat Kid Wednesdays. It's the same saxophonist from Happy Apple playing with a couple other guys and they are really good. Their records are released on a french label so sometimes they are hard to find but I think they might be on itunes
  9. yes. thats my favorite Craig Finn song I love the lyrics: "and early on in the breaking dawn woke up to the sabbath song and her hair was let down but her dress was still on she crossed herself and it turned me on said jesus i'm jumpy" also this from Viceburgh: "the callgirl stalls and lets her voicemail take it she says hey i ain't here besides i quit that business the door was locked so we knocked on the next one and here's this guy he's got a bullet-proof vest on said you guys look desparate,Ill give you an address said you guys look gorgeous, dig all that blistex and headbanger let dow
  10. I agree with Louie B definitely check this out if you get a chance. I saw it last month when I was visiting my brother at Columbia and it was pretty interesting.
  11. took me about 20 minutes total to vote in milwaukee. Mainly because I registered at the polling place. If I had been just voting I could have walked right up.
  12. my roomate and I are going out tonight as Kevin Barnes and BP Helium from Of MOntreal. He is Kevin, dressed in fishnets, gold speedo and no shirt. I'm doing BP with red jeans and a ton of crazy makeup and glitter. It should be fun
  13. I have to say I'm confused by this. I feel like if anything this album is lacking content outside of hooks. Its like Kevin Barnes had all of these chorus' and instead of pushing them into real songs, he shoved them all together and made a whole album of hooks.
  14. I agree with this. At first I was a bit put off by the schizophrenic nature of the music but after listening to it a bit more I've found that almost every change is packed with hooks and melodies that get stuck in my head. I think it's a damn good record and I can't stop listening to it
  15. I'm glad to hear it was a good show, I couldn't afford tix so I chose to go see deerhoof instead last night. They were amazing and right after their set was over I turn around and I'm face to face with david byrne. I guess he snuck over after his show to watch some of deerhoof. I was so excited, he shook my hand while I just grinned like an idiot
  16. I try to only buy music in vinyl form these days. It costs the same as most CDs and they usually come with a cd or download code. To me it just seems like the best of both worlds.
  17. it's definitely one of my favorites of the year and certainly my most listened to album
  18. I think so far my favorite this year is French Kicks- Swimming it is so damn good
  19. I am not a big fan of these guys, but their music is really catchy. I am very in love with their song "Juno" right now. it gets stuck in my head all the time
  20. Thanks for that video, it was great! Hope I get a chance to see that duo at some point.
  21. yes, I'm loving this one so far. The only other book I've read by him is "Still Life with Woodpecker" and it was really good too. Check it out if you get a chance
  22. just started this one. So far so good, I'm excited to keep reading
