I really like early Oasis. During my years of junior high, I used to be able to play all the guitar parts on their first 3 albums back to back. So, they hold a warm (guilty) place in my heart, despite all their "Beatles" blabber.

But, let's be honest....I think this is where the most recent "shift" in Wilco came from. Not to beat a dead horse (which I will be) but, IMO, Wilco was a bit more dynamic with Jay. I don't think he was needed as a co-songwriter, but what he brought to the table (other than his attitude) was a wonderful asset to Wilco. Once again, just my opinion and my 2 cents.

Yeah, this show is awesome. I got hooked on it when the only two cable channels I got in my apartment were Discovery and FX. Needless to say, I saw a lot of Niptuck.

I agree about Locke's character. He has become a little less....hmm....dynamic. Really, why on earth would you push 77? He must really like pushing buttons.

You are definately not alone. Someone's description of it being "toothless" compared to live versions is quite accurate. I can't get into Shake it Off either. I also notice that on some of the songs there will be one part that sort of "saves" the song for me, but I don't really like the rest of it. The solo in Either Way saves it for me.

Cool guitar! Definately a good buy. I used to date a girl whose mother had one like that. I always had a great time playing it.

Wonderful review! Nice way to hit post 5000! Anyway, I agree that this is a soft album. Someone around here said that if it had just one rocker it would be a lot better and I have to agree.

How many listens does it take to get to the core of SBS?
a.miller replied to Nonlinear Nonfiction's topic in Just A Fan
I'm probably around 8-10 listens and I like it more each time. At first I was a bit worried. -
Yes. And maybe a little bit of When the Roses Bloom Again

Any lyrics on the new album in particular stand out to you?

You need a higher fidelity audio system. No, really...John's groove with Glenn from some recent live shows I've heard is really astounding. I think on AGIB there was only one "hooky" baseline (handshake drugs) and on this album all the lines are just groovy and wonderful.

This one is just going on a loop in my head. That, and just saying "Impossible Germany, Unlikely Japan" over and over again. -
Beat me to it.

I think, all in all it's quite a good album. However, Shake it Off and On and On and On don't do it for me. Also, as someone else stated, I think some of Nels' soloing is not...."necessary" at times. But really, if all I got on this record was Sky Blue Sky, You Are My Face and I Hate it Here, I would be content. My $.02 until I hear it another zillion times.

I would also appreciate a PM, like the other clowns

They sell used and returned gear as new, for full prices. I have a friend that works there, so I can get a good discount, but even then....I have nearly sworn them off. Another friend bought a $3400 set of mic preamps, which only 14 of 18 worked and the sales rep asked if he would just use them "the way they were" before admitting that they weren't new and that someone had returned them. So, needless to say, I've spent a fair amount of money there in the past but have been so angry with them, that even with the available discount recently purchased an ES-335 elsewhere. No way am I putting out

I broke down and listened. You Are My Face is so damn good. Someone here said ethereal harmonies - exactly. Pretty cool stuff. I actually think I like Either Way a little better than Walken.

Sweet! I just googled it, and while there were plenty of mentions of him releasing a new album, nothing mentioned (that I read) that it was with the Cardinals.

I have had good success just using an M-audio MBox with Protools. I just purchased a Rode NT1-A microphone, which is a decent mic for $200. I also use a shure sm-57 on my guitar cabs. For drums, I have a Roland VDrum kit, which allows me to go directly in thru the MBox via stereo 1/4" out or Midi.
