  1. I do too. Glad I finally saw them last year at Lollapalooza --- I don't think I have been around a more happy group of fans (at least in my area in the field) at a concert before - it was just a lot of damn fun - even during the morose tunes - just smiles all around.
  2. One of these years I'll catch one of these --- though I have been saying that since about 1997.
  3. Passed away today. Been re-watching Wonder Years via Netflix --- still bugs me that they had to put a fake version of Cocker's version of With a Little Help From my Friends. Still play that record quite bit - nice set of credits throughout that record. http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-30582761
  4. so far, just: Feb 21: Nels Cline & Glenn Kotche w/ Fred Lonberg-Holm & Mike Reed Constellation Chicago, IL
  5. Just saw that some of his shows are up on the Archive. https://archive.org/browse.php?collection=JoePug&field=year
  6. Opinions vary of course - but I like a great audience recording over a soundboard most times, esp at a show that I was at. You get more of a "room" feel. But to your Roadcase point - my friend who normally tape shows, decided not to tape Thursday's show, because he knew he just could buy the Roadcase. He just wanted to enjoy the show and not have to worry about taping.
  7. I didn't see any mic stands --- of course that doesn't mean it wasn't taped (via an audience member).
  8. Though not the best record of theirs - Rank from the Smiths is pretty rocking.
  9. Not sure how the Playing book was laid-out - can't remember if I read it (I am sure I checked it out from a library at one point - I do recall the Playing book cover). I am guessing it will be like the ABB book. Gans' Conversations with the Dead is a good one.
  10. I downloaded the above show earlier in the year but haven't gotten around to listen to it, yet. Probably will tomorrow night. (I believe you wrote the write-up in the Taper book - if so, nice write-up) Listened to 12/14/71 - Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, MI -- great, solid show.
  11. Slow year for me - 3rd Night of Chicago's Dylan run is my top favorite, followed by Night 6 of the Winterlude and a Brötzmann, Drake, and Parker Trio show.
  12. Enjoy his music, too --- he puts on a good live show -- Saw him open for Steve Earle once (he performed solo) and another time as a headliner with his band -- both were great. Good storyteller.
  13. Both Gans and Jackson are my favorite two GD related writers/interviewers --- looking forward to the below book. http://cloudsurfing.gdhour.com/archives/8066 From Gans' blog:
  14. I downloaded a boot of his recent Chicago concert - but I haven't listened to it, yet. Tickets were too steep for me, but it would have been cool to see him. Only have his Greatest Hits disc and a few live boots from the 70's - I play his Greatest Hits disc quite a bit - great sounding disc.
  15. Watching a bit of the below tonight -- nice companion piece to the past week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7pY6UPPbVQ
  16. Those shirts were $10 after the previous nights. Rock bottom prices. But your right - I remember boot shirts after a Stones show in 89 and at Dead shows throughout the late 80's and early 90's
  17. I really thought you knew her - didn't realize until after the show - that you didn't ---- I would have had helped you out a bit. In general, I thought the crowd was fine or typical for a GA crowd .
  18. Finally getting around to read the below --- Kent passed away last week - he was a teacher of mine while I was in college and we didn't see eye to eye in a lot of ways (he did give me a B, begrudgingly I believe) - but I was a drunk at the time and in hind-sight I missed a really great opportunity to learn something. I think I stopped reading his stuff out of spite --- which is ridiculous. Half way through and it's great, great stuff.
  19. Yeah - Definitely nice words from Billy Bragg. (starting at 6:35 or so) http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04t6t60
  20. The White Sox are doing pretty good this off season, too. Hopefully it will be a great Spring/Summer/Fall for Chicago.
  21. To write this about a school system and to write that it does not "provide my family with any service whatsoever" is pretty ridiculous --- even if your family is grown and living in CA - the students that your tax dollars serve now will provide a service later on in life, it may not be directly, (though it very well might) - but the majority of the students that you are helping pay for through your tax dollars (like the people who helped to pay for your kid's schools, even though they may have not have kids in the system) will benefit Texas, as well CA and the rest of the country, by hopefull
