Drove by the house yesterday - sat in front of it with my sleeping daughter for a while and it was depressing as hell. Definitely lots (new construction/rehabbing) going on in that area, so I can see why developers are chopping at the bit for it, especially since it has a half of lot right next to it, which I am sure is part of the parcel. That Red X on the front of it looks ominous as hell. The Hadiya Pendleton shooting happen just blocks away, which made even more depressing...

I blame torrents for the demise of the post office. I don't think I will miss Sat. service - I believe they still will deliver packages and express mail on Saturdays, also.

For what it's worth, I emailed Burns (4th Ward) and Hairston (5th Ward), voicing my support of preserving the home.

This past summer I signed up for a couple of vines on Hittin' the Web - oddly enough, it was the first time that ever I dealt with vines. I got the entire 2009 Beacon run, the entire 2005 Radio City run, and 4 shows from 96 (2-Chicago/Riv. shows - Toronto, and Cleveland.) I do wish they allowed the shows to be shared, via on-line, but it wasn't too bad dealing with vines, I guess. This thread was started (by you) during the 2009 Beacon run - listening to 3/27/09 today - their version of Can't You See with Kid Rock was pretty damn good. 3/12/09, with Guy, Anastasio, and McConnell is next up

Presently listening to the below - very loudly, of course. Great set.

SoxFest is going on this weekend here in Chicago - one of these days I am going to head down there. Do all teams have a "Fest"? I suspect they do, it's great for the fans as well as the team, in general. Definitely, at least at Soxfests, players and managers get jeered and booed, but from what I hear from various friends, it is always a fun weekend. (CubFest is next week).

Going to Chicago....what to do, see, stay, etc.

Not sure what kind of art you are into, but this upcoming exhibit looks interesting, if you enjoy Picasso. http://www.artic.edu/exhibition/picasso-and-chicago I haven't been to the Art Institute, since they added the new addition, so I am probably not the best person to give you advice. Hope you enjoy your brief stay, though. -
Thanks for posting - that was great. The "Meat is Murder" bit was funny as hell. With Colbert, Morrissey took it all in stride rather nicely.

http://www.suntimes.com/17757008-761/morrissey-vows-no-reunion-smiths-almost-left-me-on-a-mortuary-slab.html From today's Chicago SunTimes. Man, does he come off as a douche, I guess that has always been part of his charm, though.

Burns was my alderman up to this year, the redistricting knocked me out the 4th and into the 5th, much to my chagrin.... Anyway back to Waters, anyone know why Muddy moved out to Westmont. It's pretty white out that way now, can't imagine what was like back in the 70's. Not that there is anything wrong with a black man moving into a predominately white area, of course.... (it's a bit like Cheif Keef moving to Northbrook, okay maybe that's a bad analogy )

Burns seems to be a good guy, hopefully he can help. You may want to give Preckwinkle a shout out, too - though she may have bigger issues - she's from the neighborhood, too (Burns replaced her as my alderman).

I need a new one and Amazon has it pretty cheap -- they look a bit goofy, but I am going to grab one. Besides the $2 in price is there a difference between the Snark JF-SN8-Kit01 SN-8 and the Snark SN-5 Tuner?

Thanks for posting, Lou - I always found it interesting that Muddy moved to Westmont, of all places. The house on Lake Park is right by me, I probably drove by it a dozen or so times, not realizing it was his former house.

It should be interesting how AJ and Ryan get along; I think Washington and AJ will be just fine. I was a fan of AJ, so I think it was a good pick up for the Rangers. The White Sox are stuck with Flowers....

Yeah his drums do sound a bit "thin" (for the lack of a better word) in the mix. I only saw them play once, last summer, and I think I remember feeling that way after the show (which I thought was great, overall). But on the webcast, he was entertaining to watch.

At times I wanna say, "I get it, David - it's one of the best ever" It's a bit of bummer that Blair Jackson is going to stop writing his blog post over at Dead.net - it usually was an interesting read.

That has always been one of favorites, too.

That Mike Love bit was a good one - I think Dylan's comment the same night was equally funny/good --- "I'd like to thank Mike Love for not mentioning me."
-
I caught most of the 1st set and a little of the 2nd - it was pretty damn good - it was fun watching Russo playing the drums. The quality of the feed and production was very good, too.

I enjoyed that Bobby sticker - I was one of those Bobby fans who got flack from my friends because I was always sticking up for him. When I start listening to the Dead (86-87), I made an all Bobby mix tape and always listened to it. I was a teenager at the time, so I guess his more rocking songs suited me better at the time.

I did, she definitely held her own. I guess she will be in front of the House this afternoon. The aftermath of the Benghazi indecent was indeed poorly played out by the President's camp. I think it turned into political theater afterwards, but that's they way it goes these days.

Never had a car of my owned until 97, so I never bothered with bumper stickers. In the Chicago area, the below shirt was quite popular. I bought a red one and gave it to a friend.
