  1. SoxFest is going on this weekend here in Chicago - one of these days I am going to head down there. Do all teams have a "Fest"? I suspect they do, it's great for the fans as well as the team, in general. Definitely, at least at Soxfests, players and managers get jeered and booed, but from what I hear from various friends, it is always a fun weekend. (CubFest is next week).
  2. Not sure what kind of art you are into, but this upcoming exhibit looks interesting, if you enjoy Picasso. http://www.artic.edu/exhibition/picasso-and-chicago I haven't been to the Art Institute, since they added the new addition, so I am probably not the best person to give you advice. Hope you enjoy your brief stay, though.
  3. Thanks for posting - that was great. The "Meat is Murder" bit was funny as hell. With Colbert, Morrissey took it all in stride rather nicely.
  4. http://www.suntimes.com/17757008-761/morrissey-vows-no-reunion-smiths-almost-left-me-on-a-mortuary-slab.html From today's Chicago SunTimes. Man, does he come off as a douche, I guess that has always been part of his charm, though.
  5. Burns was my alderman up to this year, the redistricting knocked me out the 4th and into the 5th, much to my chagrin.... Anyway back to Waters, anyone know why Muddy moved out to Westmont. It's pretty white out that way now, can't imagine what was like back in the 70's. Not that there is anything wrong with a black man moving into a predominately white area, of course.... (it's a bit like Cheif Keef moving to Northbrook, okay maybe that's a bad analogy )
  6. Burns seems to be a good guy, hopefully he can help. You may want to give Preckwinkle a shout out, too - though she may have bigger issues - she's from the neighborhood, too (Burns replaced her as my alderman).
  7. I need a new one and Amazon has it pretty cheap -- they look a bit goofy, but I am going to grab one. Besides the $2 in price is there a difference between the Snark JF-SN8-Kit01 SN-8 and the Snark SN-5 Tuner?
  8. Thanks for posting, Lou - I always found it interesting that Muddy moved to Westmont, of all places. The house on Lake Park is right by me, I probably drove by it a dozen or so times, not realizing it was his former house.
  9. It should be interesting how AJ and Ryan get along; I think Washington and AJ will be just fine. I was a fan of AJ, so I think it was a good pick up for the Rangers. The White Sox are stuck with Flowers....
  10. Yeah his drums do sound a bit "thin" (for the lack of a better word) in the mix. I only saw them play once, last summer, and I think I remember feeling that way after the show (which I thought was great, overall). But on the webcast, he was entertaining to watch.
  11. At times I wanna say, "I get it, David - it's one of the best ever" It's a bit of bummer that Blair Jackson is going to stop writing his blog post over at Dead.net - it usually was an interesting read.
  12. That has always been one of favorites, too.
  13. That Mike Love bit was a good one - I think Dylan's comment the same night was equally funny/good --- "I'd like to thank Mike Love for not mentioning me."
  14. I caught most of the 1st set and a little of the 2nd - it was pretty damn good - it was fun watching Russo playing the drums. The quality of the feed and production was very good, too.
  15. I enjoyed that Bobby sticker - I was one of those Bobby fans who got flack from my friends because I was always sticking up for him. When I start listening to the Dead (86-87), I made an all Bobby mix tape and always listened to it. I was a teenager at the time, so I guess his more rocking songs suited me better at the time.
  16. I did, she definitely held her own. I guess she will be in front of the House this afternoon. The aftermath of the Benghazi indecent was indeed poorly played out by the President's camp. I think it turned into political theater afterwards, but that's they way it goes these days.
  17. Never had a car of my owned until 97, so I never bothered with bumper stickers. In the Chicago area, the below shirt was quite popular. I bought a red one and gave it to a friend.
  18. I am not sure if it's sad or not, but my knowledge of Dowd is his involvement with The Not Ready for Naptime Players. Gotta love parenthood. Probably won't be able to make it up there for the gig - sounds like it should be fun, though.
  19. Kelly Hogan is playing a gig at the Green Mill (Chicago) - interesting booking for the Green Mill. http://greenmilljazz.com/events/9pm-an-evening-with-kelly-hogan/
  20. http://www.npr.org/player/v2/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=168805385&m=168809014 Shenandoah - Tom Waits with Keith Richards. I think it sounds great - great production.. Keith's singing is pretty good - it was mixed well.
  21. The wife and I are in the same spot as you - great, great show. It hard trying to avoid information regarding the later seasons.
  22. I would agree with Some Girls, Disintegration, and Blood on the Tracks . Add: John Wesley Harding Two live one's: Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! Allman Brother's Fillmore
  23. I guess I never did either - I am just glad the exit seems amical. I wonder if Luther will be one of the quests in Nashville.
