  1. http://www.jambands.com/news/2013/01/08/black-crowes-to-play-special-acoustic-show-at-the-ryman/ The acoustic show sounds like it may interesting. I caught one of there shows in 2010 in Chicago, when they played one acoustic set and one electric set - there acoustic performance was great. Last night I listened to their 8/27/10 The Pageant, St. Louis, MO show again --- great, great show/recording. Also it's kinda cool, that it appears that the departure of Luther was a mutual decision....
  2. Today' his birthday, too - 66 years old....
  3. No leak. The news of a new record is cool. Sorry about that.
  4. The new record is cool, didn't think there would be one.
  5. I enjoy Billy/Mickey up to 70 a lot, but solo Billy is probably my favorite.
  6. No - no I didn't. I don't think the wife would have been up for it - plus it would be awkward draggin our 6 month old daughter. Another one I forgot was Furthur at the Charter One Pavilion in Chicago - great place to see a show right on the Lake, with the city in the background. Great, fun crowd/scene. Definitely the best Dead related show that I saw since 95.
  7. Another was Bob Dylan in Ft. Wayne - haven't seen him a few years - it was nice to see him playing piano, though his actual playing wasn't the best, but it was one of his better performances that I seen in a while. Plus, Fort Wayne is a nice town.
  8. After taking a quick peak at it again, I am pretty certain it isn't Bukowski, though I don't know who it is. It does look like him, though I think Bukowski was a bit uglier... From http://www.blairjackson.com/chapter_fourteen_additions.htm Chapter 14: Beneath the Sweet Calm Face of the Sea Page 260, middle; Leon Gast on the movie footage, and more: "Some of my favorite stuff they didn't use," he says. "One night, I had [cameraman] Al Maysles in a dressing room backstage where there's a big table with a huge buffet. There are maybe four or five people in there and then a set ends.
  9. I think you meant 2012, Shug. For me Neil Young and Crazy Horse/Los Lobos in Chicago in October. The Geneva Wilco show was fun. Caught a few (but not enough) jazz shows, too (Dave Douglas, Jeb Bishop's 50th B-Day Bash)
  10. Little disappointed with the Greene announcement, too. Luther is a great, versatile guitarist. I only know Greene's playing from his shows with Lesh, so I am not too familiar with him, but I never thought of him a great guitar player - his voice is okay, though. Also, Shug, the Vic is all G.A. - you can sit or stand anywhere. Great place to see a show - pretty small, too. The surrounding neighborhood is great, too - lot's of decent restaurants/bars. Wilco has played there a bunch of times - there may be some info regarding the Vic' area in the Going to Chicago thread. http://viachicago.
  11. Got one of these this year from the kids - very nice.
  12. Vic has a g.a. seated balcony - floor is open.

  14. I was going to pass on the Grrr set, but Amazon(UK) had it (the 50 song/3 cd version) for sale on Blu-ray. After shipping/tax it came out to be $23.00 or so - cheaper than I saw it in CD format. The sound on the Blu-ray is great - not as bright as the SACDs - though I think the sound on the SACDs are great. The post ABKCO songs sound great in high rez, too, especially on head phones. My brother in law saw the PPV show and he thought they sounded great - I haven't seen it yet - hopefully this weekend - he recorded it.
  15. I Googled the whereabouts and only came up with this. Quote is dated December, 2009 from http://www.strat-talk.com/forum/stratocaster-discussion-forum/22659-jerry-garcias-alligator-graham-nash-strat.html
  16. Decided to take a day trip to Cleveland to see the Grateful Dead exhibit - well worth the drive. Coolest thing was seeing the master tape(box) for the 4/29/71 show. Overall it was great - Mickey Hart has a few if his drums there, but nothing from Kreutzmann. Jerry's Nash guitar wasn't there, either - it was cool to see Weir's Ibanez. Anybody know the whereabouts of Jerry's Nash guitar? I took my 3 year old with me, so I didn't get a chance to spend an enormous time there. His favorite part was the below: Below is the same link I posted a while ago. The exhibit is supposed to end m
  17. Went to the Hall on Saturday - Jeff's Wllco (on the neck) acoustic guitar, Nudie suit, and a Jay Bennett's beat up SG were on display. All of this has been part of a "Midwest Rockers" exhibit since the beginning of the year - if I read about it before, I forgot, because I was surprised to see it there.
  18. My wife said he should have kept his shirt buttoned. I thought it was good - nothing like their 9/11 performance - but good none the less.
  19. I think Dire Straits will - they sold a bit of records at one point. It would be a nice excuse for them to get back together, too.
  20. Yeah, the Grateful Dead Movie bonus disc is quite good. The disc is definitely worth owning, if only from a historical perspective.
  21. Regarding Grateful Dead dvd's you can get pretty much all them in one swoop, with the exception of the Crimson release. Somewhat decent price, too. "Grateful Dead: All the Years Combine: The DVD Collection (14-DVD Box Set) (2012)" I enjoy the below ones. Truckin' Up To Buffalo (Rich Stadium, Orchard Park, NY, on July 4, 1989) Downhill From Here (Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, WI, July 17, 1989) The bonus material on View From The Vault (Three Rivers Stadium, Pittsburgh, PA, July 8, 1990) is quite good. The Closing Of Winterland (2-DVD) (Winterland Ballroom, San Francisco, CA, Dece
  22. 7/19/89 was my first show - always one of favorite version of Morning Dew.
