Speaking of O'Rourke, I was discussing this someone - I never thought O'Rourke sat in with WIlco at a show before, with the exception of their Letterman or Conan TV appearance. So I guess I was wrong - what other shows does O'Rourke sit in on? I haven't listened to "laptop" or quartet era in awhile.

The sound of the cd's are great - I only halfway through the shows, though. I enjoyed the book that came with the 72 set more than the 90 set - perhaps because the story behind the 72 tour is a lot more interesting. The pics in the 72 set seem to be better quality, too. The 90 set, overall (presentation, etc.) is better, though. Very solid packaging, etc (which is what we are shelling the 200 clams out for, I guess). The Dead were more concise in their playing on this tour - which is not a bad thing, they just did not wander or go off on a weird tangent on these discs. The shows seem relativ

I don't run in the same circles as the musicians who played with Freeman, as oppose to Fred's, but after reading the comments in Tesser's piece, I now remember all the singers waiting in the wings to sing with Von and his band at the Apartment Lounge

Definitely gets it from his dad. I never saw a performer (Steve Earle) diffuse situations (drunk audience banter, etc,) better than Steve. Lot's of Steve banter is definitely planned, too, though.

I thought he sounded better last week then he he did during the shows after the Together Through Life release - he definitely was more engaged. Perhaps it has to do with the introduction of the piano - I don't know - but he seems to be focusing more on the vocal delivery than he has in the past. Watching him sing, while playing the grand piano is quite the sight. The overall show was great - esp. Forgetful Heart.

Really? I think she inherent her pop's talent - great set of pipes. I am guessing he is proud (if he isn't he's an idiot).

Just listened to that this morning - it's a good one, but Warpaint got me listening to the Crowes again.

I think, more so than Von, Fred was definitely more of a mentor to musicians. Of course owning a club, Fred dealt with musicians a lot more than Von, too.

In your impression, Lou, don't use the words Chicago, jazz, or his age and I think you will be fine. But it all seriousness, let us know. My neighbor told me that they were having it Christ Universal Temple, because it holds (for lack of better term) a very large congregation. I think they are expecting a rather large gathering.

Some of the cd's sold in those stores will be signed by Dylan, too. I never heard of this type of marketing (pop up stores) before, but perhaps I am out of the loop on such things. On another note I saw Dylan last Friday in Fort Wayne, IN. (nice town). Good show - cool to see him playing the grand piano, very rudimentary playing, but good. He sang while playing the organ, piano, harmonica, guitar, and even up front without anything, as he has been for bit now - not bad. The voice held up throughout nicely (by Dylan standard), even my wife commented how engaged he seemed throughout the nigh

I caught a Jeff/Nels performance, too - great stuff, indeed. I didn't realize that the song was played only 8 times. Caught 3 of them. It is a good tune.

No - won't be able to make it tonight. I misread the date originally and thought it conflicted with the Dylan show last Friday - but, I have something going on tonight, too. Thanks for posting the obit from the Spanish paper - I'm only sleepling - nice to see that. I did talk to my neighbor regarding Von's band show on the 19th of August - she said that it was a packed house and a very special evening. Hopefully there will some type of memorial at this years Hyde Park Jazz Fest (9/29-9/30)
