Really dig the picture of Tony Iommi's guitar/fingers. I think there will be few more people on this board who will chime in.

I am sure you already saw this, Louie... http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.com/turn_it_up/2009/09/bloodshot-records-celebrates-15-years-an-interview-with-coowners-rob-miller-and-nan-warshaw-.html I thought the below was interesting. Also, you gotta love the H.L. Mencken quote that Bloodshot has on top of their website.

Another Reason to like Justin Townes Earle
calvino replied to Normal Illinois's topic in Someone Else's Song
The only time I saw Justin perform was in 2001 at the Riviera when he opened up for his dad. I was pretty amazed at his solo performance, especially since he was just still a teenager. Definitely need to see Justin again (and get his new album). -
Looks great.

Saw them open for Lucero a few weeks back. I never listened to them (or Lucero) before. Pretty impressive.

Don't be a such a Scrooge, Louie. At least it's for charity. I guess it's official, Charlie Sexton is rejoining the band. Should be a good thing. http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/08/26/bob-dylan-welcomes-guitarist-charlie-sexton-back-into-his-band/

Official word on Dylan's Christmas album. We're expecting our first kid at the end of September. It's great that his first Christmas CD will be a Dylan one. http://www.bobdylan.com/#/news/13125 from the above link:

http://blogs.suntimes.com/hoekstra/2009/08/jim_dickinson_takes_a_walk.html Below is a segment from Sun-Times' Dave Hoekstra's piece about Jim Dickinson. I thought it was apt for this thread. -
http://blogs.suntimes.com/hoekstra/2009/08/jim_dickinson_takes_a_walk.html A nice piece by Sun-Times' Dave Hoekstra about Dickinson's Chicago connections.

At the end of the day I think Dylan is just a fan like any other music fan who is interested in the history of some his favorite musicians. In Chronicles he goes on and on about his influences. Sure he is Dylan, but I think he was Dylan the music fan before he was Dylan the songwriter. Listening to his radio show you can sense that he really digs the roots/history of music. -
I went to the Lucero show last night and the bass player gave a shout out to Dickinson. I am not familiar enough with Lucero to write what song he dedicated to Dickinson. I did read yesterday that Dickinson produced at least one of their records, so I was hoping that they would mention his passing. It was a great show.

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/aug/15/memphis-musician-jim-dickinson-dies-67/ This is a bummer. Always liked his contributions to many of my favorite musicians/bands. I am sure there is going to be one hell of jam session at the wake/funeral.

I kinda have to agree with you, here. I can understand Lane playing with them, though at times his playing does grate on my ears, but couldn't they have found a different guitar player. I only saw DSO once in the late 90's so I do not know much about his playing, but I would have thought they could have gotten any number of other guitar players. It is a great gig for Kadlecik, though. Kudos for him.

I don't remember that speech. I Googled and read an excerpt. Pretty direct/funny stuff. I love this quote by Dylan, who being inducted that night:

That's great. It would be nice if some members of Tortoise sits in with Wilco for a song or two (and vice versa).

It appears so. Found link on Expecting Rain. from http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postmortem/2009/08/i_had_never_heard_of.html
