  1. I just never notice Blair before and I have seen this video a bazillin of times since it was released --- it must have been deliberate. I think Blair kind of left, right ---- he wasn't fired or anything? Kinda like a shout out. That would have never happen with the Stones -- Wyman has been white-washed completely out of everything. Even if Wyman would come back, like Blair -- I still think he would have not been allowed to be photographed....
  2. Is that Ron Blair on the TV screen, though - right before or after the Chuck Berry footage?
  3. It's a great one. Looks like that's Ron Blair at 2:48, on the TV --- Howie is in the video, too. Guessing this is right when Howie joined, not sure though. I could be completely wrong with the bass player being Blair, too. Always loved how Mike took the guitar with him at the end, I would have, too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtLpZWNyM0I
  4. At least by having same or near same set-lists has helped me save money over the recent years -- typically I see Dylan and Wilco over multi-nights - now I am fine with just catching one show during a run or tour.
  5. Maybe their roadies are waiting on the side of of the stage with a beverage in one hand and a pair of flip flops in the other...
  6. What about a bassist - Oteil Burbridge, often plays in bare feet -- though they always have fancy rugs on the stage, at least Dead & Co, do ---- who doesn't like the feeling of a great rug in bare feet???? Weir has gone bare-footin', too.
  7. Got it, thanks - I remember Wolf kinda giving Walsh a bit of a run around.
  8. Can't remember, did the author ever end up hearing a tape from a performance at the Catacombs -- Wolf was suppose to have had it, right?
  9. You Got Lucky is a great tune - synth sound and all. Must admit - I heard every album of his - but haven't really listened half of the them ---- I wish I would have gotten around to seeing him. My brother and his wife probably caught him 15 or so times over the years ---- each time they asked me to go....
  10. Threw this on -- it is so fun watching Garcia smile...His true love of playing and love of music is so evident. Sadly it didn't show all the time.
  11. Just got the Royal Albert Hall 1971 set from the library --- it does sounds good. Didn't LouieB say he was at this show? I think I like the Live at Fillmore -1969 better, though. The Royal Albert Hall set is good, too - though. The Jesus is Just Alright was an automatic skip for me -- what a dreadful song. Just read that the Byrds were the first to cover it - prior to the Doobie Brothers - yikes.
  12. Just got the below email --- Don Was has always kind of bugged me - at least his production has. Should be an interesting show. BOB WEIR AND WOLF BROS TO TOUR THIS FALL TRIO FEATURING DON WAS AND JAY LANE PERFORMING SONGS OF GRATEFUL DEAD AND MORE 19 DATES ACROSS NORTH AMERICA Bob Weir and Wolf Bros featuring Bob Weir, Don Was and Jay Lane performing songs of Grateful Dead and more will embark on a 19-stop tour this fall. Weir says, “Wolf Bros is something that really took its roots back in the spring of 2015 when Don Was came up to TRI and helped us piece together Dead & Company
  13. Also, finally got around to obtaining the Grateful Dead Gear book -- I always borrowed it from my library, but it went missing. The edition I got was definitely a reprint and not a very good one at that. All the pictures are black and white. But I happy to finally have a copy of it around the house for reference.
  14. Looking through his books - I did read the one on Altamont. I remember it being pretty good.
  15. That's why I chose to go the White Sox game with my kid instead heading to the movie- I have that DVD and when I have gone to these movie events, they don't play it loud enough. I must admit, I tend to skip Blow Away. After seeing it a few times on the DVD, I get tire of the ending vamp. I only saw them with Brent twice and they didn't play Blow Away, either time - probably would have different perspective of the tune if I would have seen it performed live.
  16. Yeah - I don't think I ever heard of the author before. I can see the TMZ angle -- I wouldn't call the Dead book a hatchet job, though. We all know the Dead were not all that functional when Garcia was around --- they continue to be dysfunctional after his demise. Phil seems to have become a little more selfish -- which at the end of the day is his provocative, especially with all his health issues, not to mention his age, compared to the rest. Other news, I went to the White Sox game last night, where it was Grateful Dead Night and I saw Tom Constanten - he was sitting in with the band
  17. I guess the main thesis is that Lesh saw how popular his draw was with his Phil and Friends line-ups and he felt that his wife and him were the ones who should dictate the Grateful Dead legacy. The whole book is a bit skewed against him because, the author marginalized Phil's importance when Garcia and the Dead were going -- which in itself is ridiculous. One of the potshots the author took at Phil was that if Weir sang Box of Rain, the tune would have been a smash hit -- which I think is a ridiculous thing to write. First off who cares about a smash hit - but the studio version is one of
  18. Soundtrack lists Tweedy --- at first I thought St. Vincent (Annie Clark) put a movie out and some how I missed it... I remember seeing St. Vincent at the movie theater when it came out - it was a pretty great flick.
  19. Read the latest Dead book - the one from 95 on --- it wasn't that bad, I guess it just confirms all the rumors that was always being tossed around. If a 1/4 of the stuff about Phil's wife is true in the book, I can't imagine having to deal with her. The author does take some unneeded pot-shots at Phil, I can see why he didn't want to talk to the author. If anyone came out in a poor light in the book, it was definitely the Lesh's. But again, if true - the Lesh's pulled some shitty stuff. Once Garcia died, I didn't pay much attention to the scene, besides Ratdog - so it was nice to read about
  20. It is kind of funny that the site tells you how long it will take you to drive to the nearest Trump or Clinton voting district - in case someone needs to hightail it out of somewhere, I guess... It will take me 15 minutes to get the nearest Trump district -- - oddly enough, the area they point me to is my parents neighborhood. They both voted for Clinton, so I will be a safe house, in a way. Out of my two sisters, my brother, and my parents - I am the only one that lives a Clinton area. Even my sister who lives up near Minneapolis lives in a Trump pocket. Of course I think my two sister bo
  21. Man - there is a lot different shades of red on that map.....
  22. A friend of mine had a B-Bender - they are fun to play, though I really never got the hang of playing it well.
  23. That video was awesome -- thanks!
  24. The below is pretty cool. Would love to hear and see that guitar in action. from: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/byrds-co-founders-plan-sweetheart-of-the-rodeo-50th-anniversary-tour-629457/
  25. So far the tour doesn't hit Chicago, which is a bummer. But Rolling Stone wrote that they are suppose to announce more dates. Sweetheart of the Rodeo Tour July 24 – Los Angeles, CA @ Ace Hotel July 25 – Los Angeles, CA @ Ace Hotel July 29 – Saratoga, CA @ Mountain Winery September 17 – Albany, NY @ Hart Theater September 18 – Albany, NY @ Hart Theater September 20 – Hopewell, VA @ Beacon Theatre September 24 – Boston, MA @ Emerson Colonial Theatre September 26 – New York, NY @ Town Hall October 3 – Akron, OH @ Akron Civic October 8 – Nashville, TN @ Ryman Auditorium October 10 – Roanoke, VA
