  1. 11/2/83 - not sure if I heard this one before. "The Grateful Dead picked up their instruments and hit the first note with perfection. They never missed a note for the next three and one-half hours. People followed the flow of the tunes. Down on the floor in front of the stage was a sea of heads keeping time with the music. No one sat still. No one, except the youngsters behind us sat still. They were still and stunned." - The Power County Press And what a stunner it was, that show at the Boise State University Pavilion in Boise, ID on September 2, 1983. Dave's Picks Volume 27 contains every
  2. Yeah --- I am in the HVAC boat and ours has been taking on immense water -- of course we try to talk to the GC's who hired us and it's an uphill battle. This whole crap show has been hitting my family --- our good friend's mom was the plaintiff in the Supreme Court case that upheld the Muslim ban, not to mention an old classmate of mine has been all over cable news as a Trump puppet head in this border crisis - guessing he was picked because he is a conservative with a latino sounding name -- I still can't grasp my head around the fact that he is up there defending it and yet he comes from t
  3. Cool indeed, rempish1!
  4. I think it's fine to say and think that 'we're fucked' (because we are) and be optimistic at the same time. This country has been fucked before and we got out of it. This one will definitely take time - but barring nuclear annihilation - we have time to do it. Of course, Trump, the R's in Congress and Supreme Court may completely changed the Constitution - it that happens, it will take even a lot longer.
  5. Northerly Island is nice -- but you can't see the stage if you are out on the lawn -- at least back in 2013 when I saw Phish, you couldn't. The had screens, though. I saw Furthur abd stood in the general admission area, where the stage is visible and it sounded okay. Can't beat the backdrop of the city, either. I live about 10 minutes away from the World in Tinley --- Last summer, after a 21 year hiatus, I finally went back to see a show there. It still wasn't the best sounding venue ---- but I wouldn't mind if Dead & Co play there. It beats heading back up to Alpine. Must admit, read
  6. Oh yeah - now I see that road via google. I did see people heading out on the road. I didn't go that way, because I wasn't sure where it lead to. Never thought I would write it - but just keep the shows at Wrigley....
  7. Townline leads into the Alpine Valley Resort - not the actual Music Theater. People in the know or VIP's may get to park there, though - and then walk over to the theater -- it seems to be connected.
  8. It is so secret that Google doesn't even know... Townline Road is the road we always use -- most direct route to our Camp Site (Pinewood at Kettle Marine South).
  9. Yeah --- I didn't want to deal with buses, because knowing our luck somehow we would have missed it. The wife and I had a deal - I kept my head on Friday and she on Saturday - it worked out great. Friends of mine did a campground/bus thing and they came to the lot around 4:30 or so --- forget where they camped, though. One of the main reasons why we got back to our camp ground so late on Friday was because highway patrol would not let us go down the street we needed to go on to get our campsite. The re-route took for ever. The officer guarding the same street on Saturday - let us pass.
  10. Alpine definitely was a cluster-fuck. Luckily we got up there early on Friday, set up camp and then headed to the lot around 3 pm. We got there around 1 pm on Saturday -- neither day was an issue getting in. We left during Sugar Magnolia on Saturday (not noticing that Weir took a swing at his mic. stand) - figuring One More Sat. would be the encore - and we zipped right out and was asleep by midnight at our campsite. Friday we didn't make it back till closer to 2 am. We didn't have any issues with security - though I did see someone get busted for selling pipes. No one even came up to me t
  11. I'll be up both for both nights --- originally it was going to be a bunch of us -- now it's just me and my wife. Family stuff got in the way of many. The wife and I do love our kids --- but they will survive...
  12. A immigration lawyer friend of ours recommended the below organization to us - we donated ---- also letters/postcards were sent earlier this week. Keep at it, folks. https://supportkind.org/
  13. At least your Braves got a win on Father's Day ---- hopefully you were able to enjoy watching it.
  14. no better rock song than Tumbling Dice - original Exile version. Happy Father's Day - to those who apply.
  15. I am waiting for my library system to get it in. Did listen to a bit of it via Spotify while at work -- looking forward to listening to on my main system. ( A kind of aside -- now playing the 9/10/91 Dead show with Branford Marsalis sitting in ---- Coltrane's influence definitely went beyond jazz)
  16. The Vanguard box probably sounds 'too closely miked' - because it was. The stage/club is small I believe many of the shows in the Europe were recorded on a large stage - non-club gigs, hence the larger soundscape. Afro Blue Expression is indeed a great one --- but again these shows were recorded in a large auditorium. Has anyone gotten the latest edition in the Miles bootleg series --- The Final Tour: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 6 - I have not yet. I do have the below, but I haven't gotten around to get the latest one, yet.
  17. Just threw on Ole - Coltrane's last release on the Atlantic label - a great (maybe) under the radar record of his. Great compositions and playing. Perfect record after spending a day in a ball field while the mid 90's coaching little league... Incredible line-up, too. The Village box from 61 is still my gold standard and go-to for him - the first box my wife for me over 20 years or so for me. Imagine being in that room for those nights of music... Live from Seattle is the one I reach for when I really want to hear him stretch it out.
  18. How was Earle -- I seen him around 6 or so times -- sometimes it's real great, sometimes not....
  19. Yeah - I had to keep refreshing for 4-5 minutes or so - was surprised when those tickets finally popped up.
  20. I believe so - I think the ticket read Orchestra Pit Row 2.
  21. Just pulled 2 pit tickets for the show up in Minneapolis. Looking forward to it - a stay with my sister up there and she is looking forward to celebrating my kid's 9th birthday the Saturday after the show. (plus we have free baby sitting for Friday night - woo-hoo) The Ticketmaster links shows Spencer -- does anybody know if he is playing with Jeff or is a solo show?
  22. Yeah - I thought you already knew that ----- that's why I made my remaster/mix statement. At least they put some effort into it -- many have already bought the 'right after the show downloads'. I am guessing the set will sound much better -- at $500, it better.
  23. Indeed -- that Baker's Dozen set does look nice ---- it's nice that the re-mixed/mastered it for this release, too.
  24. I am still buying physical releases -- i do grab the booklets and such when I sit and listen, though.
  25. Up at Dead.net, too. I ordered it -- no issues, either -- which is odd for dead.net
