Hilarious synopsis of Gin and Juice
mpolak21 replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Someone Else's Song
I forwarded this to just about everyone I know this morning. --Mike -
The Born on the Run doc on that re-issue was pretty good, will check this out. --Mike

A journalistic disgrace, but damn good gossip, nonetheless. Now you know why I never gave Brett Favre my cell phone number

I grew up and live off and on in Charleston. McGuinn played at the Clay Center (unequivocally the best venue in the area) in 2003 to a little over a half-full capacity, the room seats 1,883. It would be an exciting event, but I wouldn't expect a massive crowd for it. Morgantown would be a decent second option, set something up through the University when school is in. Wilco played there in 2006ish, I believe.

I've had the leak downloaded and in my itunes for weeks now, I just always end up listening to something else instead. --Mike

Very exciting setlist, congrats to all who made it out. YLT/Wilco is as just about the perfect bill. --Mike
-
I guess I am overdue to finally listen to this.

who do you think needs to be remastered?
mpolak21 replied to Synthesizer Patel's topic in Someone Else's Song
Yeah, the CD of Double Nickels really could use an upgrade. If I consider a sound upgrade to be buying the album on itunes rather than listening to the CD, it's time for the CD's to be remastered. --Mike -
Front right, don't like sitting on it. I usually keep everything in my front pockets. --Mike

It's damn near impossible not to let personal judgement get into it though. If you think the last two albums were shit, it's easy to make the connection that they aren't relevant anymore because they aren't as relevant to you and that's the perspective through which you filter things.

I just fell in love with Greta Gerwig... This one is in the upper echelon of Baumbach movies (i.e. the good ones: Kicking and Screaming and Squid and the Whale). The use of Paul McCartney and Wings is fucking delightful. Stiller is just about note perfect too. --Mike

This is brilliant... language may be NSFW http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZr2qOXQJ4w --Mike

I have his and Simmons' podcast on right now. --Mike

Anyone put this one up yet? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL7-CKirWZE

Haven't Cleveland fans been through enough already

The video of the Buck/Wilco California Stars can be found on Youtube, house rules prevent us from linking to it, but it can probably be found pretty easily. --Mike

Le Batard, Simmons, Wilbon, Brian Windhorst, and Adrian Wojnarowski have done some excellent pieces on it, but yeah for the most part it's been horrific. --Mike

New Order/Joy Division were pretty much equity partners in Factory Records as well. I wasn't implying it can't be done, I am just naturally pessimistic about such things. But I doubt it will really matter who puts the albums out.

I wonder if Noah's comments bashing Cleveland in the first round of the playoffs hurt at all. LeBron has some sense of how much him leaving is going to devastate Cleveland, leaving to team up with Noah and Boozer in Chicago would be like Art Modell moving the football team to Baltimore and then finally winning the franchise's first Super Bowl there... --Mike

The track record of bands starting their own labels has never been particularly good, ask Paul McCartney how Apple turned out. But I think at this stage labels are quickly becoming irrelevant anyway, they might as well take their shot at it. --Mike

I'm only pulling against him going to the Heat because I don't think the sports world can take the inflated ego of Stephen A. Smith if it turns out that he got it right.

Yeah, I think that's true. This was Nels' best pre-WTA description. So, yes I think while I didn't really find a lot of that in Wilco The Album, none of it hinted at anything it wasn't. --Mike
