Yeah I'd love to see Wilco on, maybe Fred Armisen can hook that up. Until I'll just enjoy this video of Elliott Smith's SNL performance with Jon Brion! playing piano. Elliott Smith: Waltz # 2

Here's some stuff on Greg http://www.soundopinions.com/bio_greg.html. I'd recommend sending Kidsmoke a PM, as she is thanked in the acknowledgements of the book, she hooked Kot up with a lot of live show bootlegs which helped him write about some of the more infamous nights on the Being There tour. Also we have plenty of stuff in the archives about the book, good luck. --Mike

The Band are great, and the Beatles, themselves, would tell you that. George Harrison often referred to the Band as one of his favorites and the Get Back sessions definitely have a bit of a Basement era feel to them, Harrison actually visited Woodstock in 1968 while Dylan and The Band were in their heyday. In terms of who's better? Well nobody beats The Beatles, in my book. The Band might have had better singers, better musicians, etc. But at the end of the day the Beatles songs are better and their albums are better. The Band released two classic albums up there with the greatest records e

Sounds great . Pat played on Mysterious Production of Eggs, here's hoping they bring Andrew out on violin on Jesus, etc. --Mike

The scary thing with the Beatles is that you can take the best songs they wrote om any given year 64, 65, 66, 67, etc. and just those songs stand up against entire band's careers. --Mike

These along with Christ for President are bonus features on one JHamm's DVD's from the Ghost era. --Mike

Yeah I get that, in fact it's exactly how I feel but flip Being There for Foxtrot. So far the response of the board is almost completely accurate with how I'd rate the albums, but I'd flip Summerteeth and Being There. --Mike

Somehow this one always gets left off or overlooked on music site's "greatest albums of the nineties" lists. Yet, in my humble opinion it's right up there with Ok Computer, Loveless, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, Slanted and Enchanted, etc. --Mike

They got me into music when I was eleven and I've never looked back since. Magical Mystery Tour is the first album I ever owned, not a bad way to start. --Mike

Another vote Side Two Abbey Road. Poor Places into Reservations. Almost everything on In The Aeroplane Over The Sea --Mike

. WVU used to run draw plays on third and goals from the nine, the running back would promptly fall flat on his face and then we'd miss the field goal. I feel your pain. I assume Nutt is pretty much toast at the end of this year, provided they don't win out. --Mike

Foxtrot is the best in my opinion, but if I had an hour left and could only listen to one album I'd have to go with A Ghost is Born (which is actually seven minutes longer than an hour, so I guess skipping the drone would be necessity.) --Mike

This has been one of my favorites of the year so far. Great, great record. --Mike

I'll check those out, Eli is the first record of hers I've heard. Anything with the LouieB stamp of approval is worth looking into. --Mike

While there's nothing inherently wrong about converting to MP3 for your own purposes, as A-Man as pointed out tapers usually don't like the distribution of their work as MP3, because it cuts the quality of the recording that they often work very hard to get. My recommendation if you don't want to torrent (I actually can't use any P2P because of my campus firewall), is to keep the FLAC files, zip them and send them through Mega Upload, Yousendit, rapidshare, or whatever you prefer. It's going to take a bit longer to upload, but you still get to download the files in a slightly more convenient w

Here are some more... This probably my favorite Smog album. Dark lyrics, excellent arrangements and nice use of the Hurdy-Gurdy (courtesy of Jim O'Rourke who produced the album) and French Horn. Plush: Fed. If you've seen High Fidelity, you've seen Liam Hayes (Plush) singing Soaring and Boaring from his first (and equally underrated album) More You Becomes You. Fed is his masterpiece, which he spent years trying to perfect and then released in Japan only in 2002 (he couldn't get an American indie to pick it up, because it cost so much to make). This is a really good album in the vei

Pretty much agree with your assessment, I wouldn't change a thing about Ghost, though I feel Foxtrot is a little more cohesive overall. If this makes sense at all, Ghost is probably my favorite Wilco album (the one I listen to the most, and probably enjoy the most), but I think Foxtrot is a better album. But who knows what would have come after Foxtrot had Bennett stayed in the band, and the YHF lineup had stayed in tact. It also would have been interesting to see what Jay could have brought to the table with Sky Blue Sky. I don't find SBS to be a bad record at all, but it's been overshadow -

I'm all for having Nels and Jay both in the band. If tensions are too high to tour with Jay just let him record at the Loft all the time and have him be their Brian Wilson. --Mike -
That show was webcast and Jeff did say that about Bill. I've had Garden Song stuck in my head all morning, and if I'm lucky it'll stay there all day. --Mike

Thread inspired me to listen to self-titled and Time of the Last Persecution. I can not understate the brilliance of this man. --Mike

Yeah he and Tweedy were really on top of their game with Foxtrot and as great as I feel A Ghost is Born is, who knows what could have happened if they had made the situation workable. I'm not dissatisfied with the current lineup, but man what might have been. Subsequently I'd have liked Leroy to stick around too. --Mike -
Great, great band. I can't think of any group I'd rather actually "be" in more than the Band in their prime. --Mike

It's excellent, The Minus 5 did a pretty good cover of We Have Laid Here in one of the Down with Wilco shows from 2003. --Mike
