  1. My all-time favorite is the 5/16/2003 show from Martyr's in Chicago. --Mike
  2. Man that's such a beautiful tune... Anyway ditto too Astral Weeks and Electro Shock Blues two of my all-time personal favorites. You can also never go wrong with any Nick Drake ever. For some reason the first Loose Fur album has always been one have turned too when things aren't going that great, as well as both Yankee and A Ghost is Born. Something about the feeling of descent into chaos or in this case noise or Jim O'Rourke "ruining records" but then coming back out of it to Chinese Apple, The Late Greats or Reservations always seems to work for me. Elliott Smith is excellent, Basement
  3. Nope it's one of my favorite songs on the album, it was the first song of Wilco's I really got into. --Mike
  4. If by worst you mean best then you sir are correct. --Mike
  5. Yeah these guys are probably my second favorite live band but just by inches. I just sort of on impulse decided to go see them at Bonnaroo in 2004, after Wilco finished and I caught the end of Ani DiFranco, mainly because I wanted to be in a tent instead of standing out in the sun to see Dylan. I had never heard a not of their music, but figured what the hell. They were incredible, I went and bought Summer Sun and I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One out of the merchandise tent and have been a big fan ever since. 6. While 1-12-2003 San Fransisco show is probably old news to most, I found this review about one of my favorite gigs of the band that I have at work last night and I wanted to share it to anyone who missed it the first time around. Though college (apparently by your junior year they actually expect you to work) and the wrong girls at the afforementioned college (eh don't want to talk about it) got in the way of my plans to make an epic "A Ghost is Born" box set, I still eventually plan on editing down the nearly 20 disc rough draft list I made at some point. Until then I highly recommend to anyo
  7. ...could have probably used a couple of more keyboard overdubs. In all seriousness this is my third favorite Wilco album, I'd give it five stars along with Yankee and Ghost. It's not quite perfect, but sometimes that works it's favor. The record can be so intense sometimes some of the lighter tracks ELT, My Darling, etc. are needed just so you can catch your breath. There are probably more underappericated gems on this album than any other Wilco realease. --Mike
  8. ...somehow transcends all of it's imperfections and is a beautiful sprawling epic mess of a record that I love very dearly. It's about ten minutes (I could go for about two or three minutes of white noise but 12... eh little excessive) away from being the best album they ever made. --Mike
  9. Missed this in the first read through, but wanted to echo Robert's comments. Bennett is as just as instrumental to this album's brilliance as he was with Summerteeth... (http://www.gloriousnoise.com/?pg=bennettyhf.php) Adding Kotche and O'Rourke to the mix really pushed things to another level, sadly it ended up not being a workable arrangement for all parties, but we got a hell of a record out of the deal. --Mike
  10. ...if I only had to take one album to a deserted island with me, would probably be it. Anytime I need to hear music it's what I always reach for. It's just one those perfect albums in my opinion. I've probably listened to it more than anything else in the last five years, the only other records I can think that can touch it in terms of listens are A Ghost is Born and In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. The best records for me can completely emerge me in their world and become emerged in mine as well, if that makes any sense. It's always done that for me. --Mike
  11. Heard something very similar about SBS said about Elliott Smith actually. For me is the album that's been the album of 2007 so far, even though I'd probably call it their fourth best record, it's still has a lot of amazing moments on it, and it grows better with reapeated listens. --Mike
  12. I absolutely love this album and the Minus 5/Wilco shows from 2003 are worth tracking down as well. --Mike
  13. Holy smokes that looks like an excellent show. --Mike
  14. In 2002-2003 when Wilco would play it Mike or Leroy would add keyboards to the song, but anyway the article is referring to Walkmen's song of the same name. --Mike

    YHF Demos

I'd certainly like to see it as well as some of the Ghost outtakes they apparently have quite a bit in the archives in the vein of what's on the Wilco Book CD. I wonder if Reprise has any claims to the demos of YHF, I know they let the band walk with the record. --Mike
  16. http://archive.viachicago.org/index.php?sh...=4490&st=40 Third from the bottom and if you have time you might want to read the entire thread, classic stuff. --Mike
  17. I'm probably one of the ten people in this world, that actually loves this record. Also on tap for the day Skip Spence: Oar The New Pornographers: Challengers and probably some Bill Fay --Mike
  18. Yeah me too, congrats Rob . --Mike
  19. This is one of my favorites on the album as well, maybe as they start playing smaller venues they might mix in some of the quieter stuff on the album, they'll also hopefully be playing longer sets in the near future as well. --Mike
  20. Based on their sets at that time I am pretty sure song five would be How To Fight Loneliness it usually lead into Hotel Arizona. Track 13 might be We're Just Friends (they used that sequence, She's A Jar, Shot in the Arm and then it for a couple of shows) . The rest is anyone's guess. --Mike
  21. Here's the full set for anyone who needs it 1. You Are My Face 2. Side With the Seeds 3. I Am Trying To Break Your Heart 4. Handshake Drugs 5. A Shot in the Arm 6. Via Chicago 7. Impossible Germany 8. Sky Blue Sky 9. Shake it Off 10. War on War 11. Jesus, etc. 12. Walken 13. I'm The Man Who Loves You 14. Hummingbird 15. Spiders (Kidsmoke) Encore one: 16. The Late Greats 17. Heavy Metal Drummer --Mike
  22. Right, these things are always a little behind schedule. I just wish there was a slightly better band leading into Wilco. --Mike
  23. Yeah this song they are doing know has been dragging on for quite a bit, it's time for Wilco. --Mike
  24. Looks like a great show, shame the thread turned into flame battle over what was all things considered a pretty harmless (and kind of funny) joke. Adam, allow me to impart some knowledge I learned back in elementary school the easier you are piss off, the more fun it is to piss you off. Sometimes you just have to let those Jay Bennett jokes go dude, it's a Wilco board people are going to make fun of him every once and awhile. --Mike
