  1. Not the foodstuffs thread I was expecting. Or the totally inappropriate thread I was expecting.
  2. Probably roughly the same logic as to why we put up with thread trolls: some things you can't control, so better to just accept them.
  3. I enjoy Pat's work during the verses in Impossible Germany more than Nels' slot. Nels' sheer athleticism and dexterity in the IG solo is certainly fun to watch but creatively he has better outlets in wilco tunes, in my opinion. (Ashes of American Flags, ALTWYS accompaniment, Side with the Seeds...)
  4. that part about moving to Chicago to be Sue's boyfriend is about as good as it gets.
  5. Saw Mr. Holmes yesterday. Good movie. Focus is certainly on emotions and relationships and aging, as opposed to a who-done-it.
  6. why doesn't the media function work with youtube videos anymore?
  7. This will changes 900 times in the next week, but... 1. Jerry Garcia - Althea (either 10/14/83 or 03/15/90) In the 10/14/83 version, from about 5:47 on puts tears in my eyes just about every time. There is simply no way to reproduce Jerry's timing--the way he seems like he isn't going to get to a note or fit a run of notes in, but always does. The interplay between this solo and Mydland's organ is just phenomenal. You can't teach that. The 03/15/90 version is flawless. Like a bird crying. Outside of Wilco, these two songs have probably brought more comfort to me than any other music
  8. How dare you, sir/madam?
  9. I would guess that W(TA) and/or Sky Blue Sky are their most accessible albums, based upon the number of fans who joined this site after them who seem not to have the rabid affection for the earlier work that most of us old curmudgeons do.
  10. Henneman sure uses a LOT of all caps and "quotes."
  11. Most people are really awful at music.
  12. end of Where Do I Begin while instrument changes were taking place.
  13. definitely in open G, from the video.
  14. Jeff starts with a G barre chord at fret 3. Does the D/F# by moving the low E from G to F#. Plays the first C chord as a barre at 3rd fret (then does a sus on the barre C by hitting the G and B strings at fret 5), then Bm, then a full C chord, then A7. Then chorus is a full G chord (not barre) to a D7 (with a move to the 4th fret of the G string with it looks like his ring finger) then to full chord C.
  15. For Cold Slope and King of You Jeff's strat was definitely in an open G (with low E tuned down to a D). You can tell for sure during a part in King of You.
  16. I noted Random Name Generator, Pickled Ginger, and Cold Slope/King of You (gray strat) as having some variant of a low D tuning. Forgot to check on You Satellite.
