Never owned a Kaoss pad, do you think any of these would work? Just trying to be helpful. Also I saw here where someone was doing something similar, and actually just bought a heavy-but-cheap mic stand, and paid a local welder to put a shelf on it, maybe you could design something and jerry-rig it?

I don't have an experience with either of these, but you get the impression from other people online (like even the reviews at sweetwater.com) that the HRDx is a pretty big step down. Which sucks because of the $$ etc. Also wrt the Blue Deluxe Reissue, that is made down in Mexico. (the old ones were made in the US) also people online say that the BDRI is super loud. Random comment: I don't think any of these is really going to be very quiet. Have you considered using some Solid State Technology for home and then rocking the 410 at rehearsal / gigs? I know that sucks, but if you're r

I may be blind, but I don't see any Wilco tabs there, and the UT links are all dead. On the plus side, this had some Whiskeytown and Gillian Welch tabs I hadn't seen elsewhere, so thanks!!

I like that cockiness! I really hope the eventually tell us where we can post our own stuff on here, because I'd love to have some informal songwriting contests just amongst us SST type punks... Well that's actually my most-ambitious concept. I would just like to be able to say, "this is my newest song, what do you guys think? Are the vocals too compressed? Does it need a banjo part?" etc. But I don't want to flood SST with that stuff, because I write a lot of songs. Like, a whole lot.

Disappointed in SBS then, still pretty much the same. A few tracks have grown on me -- I liked the list of five earlier in this thread, roughly where I'm at as well. One thing this did get me thinking though, is about the discussion of Wilco's arc as a band. Lots of hate for AM in here, which makes sense for people who like SBS. But this led me to thinking about how I'm going the reverse arc to Wilco. I started liking Wilco a lot with YHF. Had heard some of the Being There and Summerteeth tracks on St Louis radio but they didn't really appeal enough for me to investigate. But then I

I'm surprised those impressed by goatse didn't key in on irlsg-ay and the upc-ay.

Agree, this was a very cool read. It kinda reminds me of what the Old Crow Medicine Show guys say at the end of their ACL show: "when we were in high school, we mostly listened to what was on the radio, Nirvana and stuff like that."
-
agree. and what a great pic!!
-
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
-
Agree, I use them quite a bit, especially if I'm going to be doing the solo-acoustic thing. I think I've been sticking mostly to E, F, and B lately keywise, so those suckers have been heavy in the rotation.

Yeah I wanted to pipe in that I agree, that post was really helpful rowboat. I bought some tusq pins online after hearing you talk. Not that bridge pins are the world or anything, but every little bit helps. I was surprised by how much I really heard things different when I finally found strings I like... Who knows maybe someday my ear will be sensitive enough to actually PERCEIVE the bridge pins too! haha. But thanks man.

For what it's worth I don't really understand any of that stuff and I've written dozens (maybe hundreds now) of songs that are pretty good and original. The ONE resource I turn to for musical stuff sometimes is this book. It's part of a series that goes really deep into the stuff I don't really understand above, but what I actually use is this bigass section where they kinda list out a bunch of chord progressions. The ONLY thing you really need to understand in there is what key you are in, which isn't superhard. I have never directly lifted a chord progression from them, but I think

By the way, found out that this site has a GREAT deal on the Martin Bluegrass-gauge strings I like. They only let me order 5 packs this time though... But still, $4 each can't be beat around here at least. Also I was ordering tusq bridge pins to replace my Martin plastic pins anyway. Just a thought.

I think if I were going to try to built a guitar, I might start with a lap steel like that one kid on here did.

The one where ad hominem trumps argument, aka the internet. I could care less, but you asked if people agree that Wilco covers enough areas of music to be considered "the wal-mart of music," alas I did not realize that "no" was not an option. Silly moi! I shall retreat with my Hansen album clasped to chest, to go cry and wonder why the anonymous man is so mean.

I think it's kind of unfair to compare artists against each other. WHO IS BETTER VAN GOGH OR MONET?? Also kinda unfair to put anybody against Dylan or Springsteen if you ask me... Good thing I like unfair questions, especially those with polls!
-
I see no blues at whatsoever. Nor flamenco, hip hop, or soul. SOUL?? WILCO? Good lord. You asked if we agree with the Wal-Mart analogy, just saying nope not at all for my part. You're ridiculous if you think Wilco is half as diverse as Beck or Ben Harper, to refer to pretty-well-known dudes who cover a lot of ground. Wilco has a lot of strengths, but drawing in tons of influences really is not one of them imo.
-
I also understand the analogy but think it's just not true. Sure, Wilco is a one-stop joint if all you like is cool acoustic pop or folk-rock. But that's about it in terms of musical genres. Also I don't think the band is very lyrically diverse, they only write in a couple veins topically -- especially if you leave out the AM / UT 'working man / regional' stuff. (Acknowledging the irony of not including Summerteeth because of the song VC, on this board.) Don't get me wrong, I love me some Wilco. But if you think this is all there is to music, buy yourself a trumpet and a flamenco guitar

Ryan Adams - everything you think is funny is actually not funny at all. seriously. all the way back to you screwing around at the end of whiskeytown tracks. Wilco - I'm sorry, but that album cut of the Impossible Germany solo actually DOES sound kinda like the Weather Channel 7 on the 7s music. Old Crow Medicine Show - the 1920s covers are better than your original songs, except for Wagon Wheel and that's 50% Bob Dylan's doing... Eels - the "with strings" stuff lent credence to those who say you're all about studio production. They are wrong, but you gave them something to point to.

Another vote in favor of Pop Todd! My last post was half a bump. Uh, kinda like this one. But seriously A-man, I posted in the other forum asking the mods to clarify this policy. I think it would be helpful. Todd shouldn't have to feel sheepish about wanting people to check out his stuff. He's an actual member of the community and not "America the Beautiful" etc. I think if songwriters / performers cool enough to like VC are willing to hang out here and post their stuff (especially for free), I personally think that's not a bad thing at all. Full disclosure: I'm one of those who

Blood on the Tracks Blonde on Blonde disc 1 of '66 album -- agree with whoever said that the version of "desolation row" on there is a revelation also i think his last-15-years work is ok / glad it's out there, but just not the same for me, sorry. maybe I am just folked up in the head.
