  1. the OK Computer one in the series is stupid. it is the first and last one i will ever buy. sounds to me like they were trying to pull a Greil Marcus and ended up looking stupid. -justin
  2. thank God you realized the Bon Iver release was technically a 2007 and didn't list it accordingly like everyone else. -justin
  3. most hardcore RH fans seem to feel that Amnesiac is underrated (perhaps by the critics) and maligned as Kid A leftovers, when in fact, it may be the stronger album. one could certainly argue that more of the songs are out and out masterspieces: "Like Spinning Plates," "Life In A Glasshouse, "Pyramid Song," "You And Whose Army?" One argument that is frequently brought up is that it is "less cohesive," but even if you do feel that way about Amnesiac, lack of cohesiveness does not a worse album make. i've even seen some fans on the RH board say that the lack of cohesion is a strong point becua
  4. >This is like Damien Rice all over again, stop it. -justin
  5. Random Observation: I'm struck by how this entire album has the feel of Neil Young's vastly underated song "Will To Love." The story behind "Will To Love" is that Neil was messed up on a bunch of stuff and recorded it alone in his cabin, with a roaring fire (you can hear the wood popping in the stove) on a 4-track tape recorder. He rushed into the studio and was told it was too lo-fi to do anything with, but he fed the 4-track into whatever and overdubbed a bunch of randomness (xylophone, etc.), giving the track an underwater feel, since it is essentially an 8-minute long piece comparing lo
  6. i've always thought the comparison was somewhat apt. maybe it's just because Wilco and RH are the best, most inventive bands from each respective country. :-) >Wilco isn't the American Radiohead because Wilco doesn't suck. please. even if their music isn't your cup of tea, it would be tough to argue their importance or ability. -justin
  7. Fleet Foxes http://www.myspace.com/fleetfoxes -justin
  8. i've met Jeff twice. once before a show in 2004. i was there way early tooling around town and i saw him on the street, so i just walked up and shook his hand and said "thanks." in january of 2007, i met him after a solo show and got him to sign my ticket and took the pic that's in my signature with him. i asked him if "On & On & On" was going to be on the next record, becuase i heard heard it at the previous Wilco show and thought it was beautiful. he thanked me and said that it was a good chance. -justin
  9. the first two or three times i listened to it on my ipod after downloading, i thought it was "okay" and only one or two of the songs stood out. then, the fourth time i listened to it, they all stood out and different parts kept surfacing in my head and i fell in love. finally, i just ordered the damn thing from amazon.com with some other books/CDs so i can have a proper copy. btw, that's usually what i do, download shitloads of music, keep giving it chances and if i like it enough i'll eventually buy it. -justin
  10. >What do you consider For Emma? that one is easy. it had an official release in 2007 and was re-released in 2008. Vampire Weekend does not qualify becuase it leaked in '07 and saw official release in '08, so it's clearly an '08 release. God! -justin
  11. >But then Nels in the recent interview said the stuff Jeff has been writing lately is "beautiful." Nels comes from an avant garde background. "Beautiful" could be something else entirely to him. -justin
  12. SBS is fantastic, though it may not be their most progressive or inventive or even best album. the song-writing is fucking solid, i can't understand how anybody, regardless of whether you like the album or not, can't see that. -justin
  13. Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam Nick Drake - Bryter Lyter Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left Radiohead - Hail To The Thief -justin
  14. how do you explain the "h"? -justin

  16. >if by strange you mean really fuckin' good, then yes. it's pretty strange. brilliant! -justin
  17. >Let's Fight is probably going to stay in the can, it got a pretty tepid reaction here actually back in 06, a lot of people hated the synth strings. Fear not though my good friend for great things are scientifically proven to happen to anyone who works in an electric boogaloo reference. that's crazy. "Let's Fight" is amazing. recently, when i hear references to it on the board though, they are all positive... -justin
  18. >yes, but with guitar squiggles. you mean a la "Impossible Germany"? -justin
  19. i think both of these songs sound like SBS material actually. -justin
  20. thanks! these are great! anybody try to transcribe the lyrics yet? -justin
  21. i saw them back in 2006. honestly, Wayne's voice sounds terrible untreated and the mix was bad. judging from another bootleg i heard, i realize that this is always the case. at any rate, it was an incredibly fun show regardless of them sounding like shit. still, i like their albums (except the last one, which only had a few salvageable tracks). -justin
