  1. I'm so glad I saved most of my stuff from the childhood days.Although all the 45's I bought back in the late '60's-early '70's at the local Mom & Pop vinyl store (Baxter's) with my allowance isn't in pristine enough condition to play on my turntable I own,my 15 year old has a "close-n-play" type turntable in her room w/ all my remaining 45's & LPs from that time. Some of the best singles from Strawberry Fields to Bohemain Rhapsody is up there & still gets an airing from time to time. Some of her friends have never heard 45s Scott
  2. Good call! I have that on VHS somewhere...he will be missed
  3. So far everyone has captured so eloquently I don't know how to begin. The stoney, bluesy feel on JT's vocals ('can you let the snare crack') is some of the best of what I call the 3AM albums. That vibe where it's the wee hours of the morning, you're alone & totally pissed up ala the HST persona....I know HST was a big Cowboy Junkies fan,but I'm sure stuff like Blue-Eyed & Dash 7 woulda been right up his alley. Catchy shit usually is the bane of existence but intelligent, catchy shit makes for some grrreat songs.AM features the latter Not my favorite Wilco record but it is the one I alway
  4. EXCELLENT!! you summed it up nicely there! If you were here,I'd buy ya a beer
  5. I was hoping you knew....maybe it's because of his political affiliation
  6. "Good people drink good beer"----Flying Dog motto Scott
  7. I remember reading about the gig & seeing some pics from same. You were a lucky guy there! In regards to Barry, yes he was not mixed loud enuff most of the time.As to his 6-string prowess,PM in yer box! Scott
  8. The 1st thing I thought of .Heart-attack inducing.U2 at Live Aid '85 definitely stole the show there. Here's a thought:so many amazing performances on the old Don Kirshner show...anyone still remember performances from that? I recall Sabbath w/ Ozzy from '74 or so that was really excellent,as well as an incindiary T. Rex doin' "Bang a Gong from around the same time. Scottr
  9. A 30 min. '72 Dark Star ain't too shabby,either Scott
  10. Dubya-lovers:at this point,'nuff said...(esp. at work)
  11. Indeed! On a brief venture to Yellow Springs,OH just 15 daze ago to catch NRPS I wandered into a local store & spied the cashier marking LPs w/ a price gun.I was able to check out the quality of the LPs & walked out w/ 10 LPs for $20,including an excellent copy of one of the best live records of the '70's--J. Geils "Full House".
  12. The Palace is my very favorite indoor venue .I caught numerous shows there (including Phil the night Kesey died).A good friend has grrreat seats for that one..wish I could be there but I gotta save some vaca daze for fall Wilco shows! Enjoy the 'Ville!
  13. Thoughts & observations from last night: Christ,it was brain-searing hot! 94 as we entered. With a 6:30 showtime,75% of the show was in daylight...never have I drank so much water. So happy...like a family reunion (actually better than that ) my hometown of 9000 or so was represented by literally 20+ of my best friends & local Heads. Very rowdy 1st set..probably a good thing..too many ballads in that heat may have been devastating. Dire Wolf,Big River opened things up.Joan Osbourne did a great job with "Next Time You See Me" Then as we were thinking about trying to scope out some sh
  14. Great verse.Shoulda been on the album as such
  15. 1) 92 2)93 3)95 4)96 5)94...the lowest of lows....74 I swear to God I'd rather have to shovel my car out of the driveway...on to Labor Day ASAP
  16. Does it really matter if they're true or not?? There are things there that are good examples of a way to be a good human being...just as there are in the Koran, the ancient Hindu & Buddhist texts,etc..Imo,take what resonates with you from each & create your own cosmology! btw,Alan Watts is DA MAN Scott
  17. I couldn't agree more...that stuff is no good for RXR or anything else, except perhaps a 15 hour drive. In my experience, the devil's dandruff makes people chatty w/o being actually friendly. Not to mention the ability to make one a compulsive liar. In regards to the anxiety & depression meds,I haven't used them so I don't know. But the person who called them 'scary' is not too far off if they meant this:we have 10,000 years of exposure to things like alcohol & pot...we know what it does,we know what it can do...the possible damage, long term effects, etc. With the newer drugs the scary part
  18. I enjoyed the book, but hopefully further on up the road there will be much more history to talk about & we'll get a massive tome along the lines of "Shakey" or "Garcia,an American Life". I do think Kot kinda jumped the gun.. Scott
  19. Everytime I'm out riding with my Basset Hound in the car and I stop somewhere to get something (beer ),as soon as I get out of the driver's seat, she gets in my seat & sits with her two front legs resting on the steering wheel. Why she does this I have no idea, but many's the time when i walk back to the car someone is looking at her like 'awww..cute' & depending on how many bevvies I've had,I'll explain that she's my chauffeur & jump in the passenger side. I'm an easily amused guy Scott
  20. I gotta place Campaign Trail at #1 tho
  21. Good call I saw SRV a dozen times & he got better imo after he got off the stuff
