  1. No offense, but why would you assume things would go well under Turner's reign? He has failed miserably as a head coach on the pro level. I really am surprised he keeps getting re-hired as head coach. Don't get me wrong- I like the guy. He's an easy guy to like and I think he did his best even when he sank an already leaky ship while with Washington for 7 years. I think he's an excellent offensive coordinator/quarterback's coach. But, he has consistently failed as a head coach.
  2. Congrats to llynnowens. And I'll add that she won not because the photo has a cute kid in it, but because it tells a story, of course. I think a lot of us can relate to the story, too. It's a picture you want to go back to and re-check out. Well done and great photo.
  3. This is a big one that has always jumped out at me, as well, and has personal meaning for what I take out of it.
  4. Ham on Rye is an excellent read. Right up there with a bunch of HST's stuff, Tortilla Flat and Cannery Row as most frequent re-reads for me.
  5. I read half of this last night. Quick read and pretty entertaining and surprisingly funny at points. I think nerdy mentioned this awhile back: And start this tonight/tomorrow:
  6. Definitely. And those caught using performance enhancers under a ban should be treated accordingly. But I was responding to you're query whether the same folks who were angry with Bonds would be as angry with Ankiel. No. There is a difference in two people equally cheating when one's cheating has a far greater impact on the game.
  7. Where are you pulling this number from? Even if it were true (and I strongly doubt it's even close to true) it still wouldn't be an even playing field.
  8. I agree. I'm just pointing out that the use of them were banned earlier than some people like to believe.
  9. Just to be clear as it's rarely accurately stated in these steroid-use discussions: steroids were added to the banned substance list as early as 1991 by then-Commissioner Fay Vincent. He was explicit in citing them as banned for use by MLB players. Testing, of course, for the banned substance did not come until much too later. Edit: Why should any player be excused from using performance enhancers after MLB put a ban on them?
  10. On the contrary, it's still cheating but fewer people care when the impact on the game isn't as drastically affected.
  11. He does what's good for The Can. Doesn't Oil Can have a team of former MLBers he assembled and travels/plays with?
  12. If Ankiel starts altering history and making a sham out of coveted records due to cheating, perhaps.

  14. Ooh. I'd go. I saw them in the spring and they were tight. Only played 2-3 of the new ones. And it was only $20.
  15. The backstage and street scenes stuff is a little weird, yeah. It's like a bit "off" in slo-mo or something, it seems. The concert footage is excellent, though. No obnoxious camera tricks or anything; just nice shots of the band in their element. Really, they're sounding fantastic for this show. The Left Coast Horns add just the right amount to the tunes, too. A few acoustic numbers, as well.
  16. Hell yeah. "Look at the Rain" is an all-time favorite tune. Even better live.
  17. Just found out they'll be doing an acoustic first set followed by two 'lectric sets.
  18. Listened to this for the first time on the way to work today. I like it very much.
  19. Yeah, Marc is in the band and there's some decent footage of backstage/other crap too besides the playing. And yeah, they've got just the cd, too. ed. Oops. I see A-man addressed this.
  20. porngoggler: have you ever listened to the "Soul Singing" from Freak & Roll: Into The Fog (or seen the dvd, for that matter)? Shot/recorded at the San Fran Fillmore a couple years ago. Imo, one of the best versions they've done. Amazing.
  21. I tend to disagree with this. Some of the studio stuff already mentioned in the beginning of the thread is the best place to start before hitting the live stuff, IMO. It's harder to truly appreciate the variations in the live stuff without a basis/benchmark that is the studio stuff. The enormity of the live material can be overwhelming and hitting on a clunker show/string of tunes can do a man in when testing it out. Plus, some of the studio stuff (arrangement-wise, etc.) is very good. I go back to the album stuff seldomly these days, though. Putting on Wake of the Flood or Aoxomoxoa aft
