  1. Nice find. I need to re-visit this one later. "Moonlight Mile" was only done a handful of times, if I recall...
  2. He falls pretty far below the average numbers for HoF inductees. Important to note, too, that the BBWAA did not vote him in, the Veteran's Committee did. Here's a good, straight-up article that breaks it down: https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2018/12/10/18135296/harold-baines-hall-of-fame-todays-game-era-committee
  3. Plenty of lack of memory, here. Shoot, I forget what JGB played a couple weekends ago! I used to write GD set lists on ticket stubs but that was usually a failed effort what with no light (no cell phones back then) and the inevitable "excitement" of the moment producing increasingly illegible writing as the show continued.
  4. Yeah, shit. I had a student out all last week because his dad offed himself during the Thanksgiving break.
  5. I was just listening to this LLR and it really captures the essence of the tune, imo. From about 4:30 on (the meat/back 9 of the tune!) it really has it all w/ the storm effects, precise Garcia twiddling, vocal echoes, peaks and valleys, and I'll even take the midi effect from Garcia towards the end. Nice sbd-matrix, too!: https://archive.org/details/gd90-06-23.sbd.ladner.28690.sbeok.shnf/gd90-06-23d2t02.shn
  6. Yeah, I saw green lasers following me around the arena (even into the Men's Room!) at Richmond in '85....
  7. I watched a few minutes of the Celtics/Knicks game last night (hardly ever watch pro basketball anymore), and was surprised to see Marv Albert still calling games.
  8. I liked him as an analyst, actually.
  9. Not as obvious as Michael McDonald! And yeah, if I recall Brent was looking at possible jail time for multiple DUIs at the time of his death.
  10. Yeah, that seems right. Zen Tricksters have been around for a long while....
  11. Baracco was like 19 or 20 in 1990! Per what I've read, and per the link I posted above, even, the selection process (in large due to the timeline of lined up shows and huge financial obligations/tied up money) was brief and was not something the rest of the band wanted to really even deal with. The decision was hasty and largely based on the vocals, apparently, as they thought that whomever was on board could learn the piano/keys parts with the help of Hornsby....
  12. Well, Ian McLagan was apparently approached by the GD after Brent died. He apparently turned down the offer to audition because he wasn't into their sound.Cool article on their "hiring" process, notes on some who auditioned and some who didn't: http://hooterollin.blogspot.com/2011/08/grateful-dead-hiring-practices-ian.html
  13. I've never heard of Vince using heroin. Met and hung with him a few times post-Garcia. Nice guy. Liked to drink and mingle with the people! Either way, he never quite fit the mold of the band, imo.
  14. With regard to Vince (and pretty apt synopsis of his time in the band), I have to comment that Keith, towards the end of his time with the band, was often heard simply mimicking Garcia's licks and was, imo, often a hindrance. While there were, of course, positives up until the end (and I honestly think the same can be said with the GD and Vince....Philly '95 being an example that always pops into my head), Keith wasn't what he once was and was often derailing the band by '79. I kept going to shows until '95 (though markedly cut down on going due, in large, to the quality decline mentioned al
  15. I heard a song on the way to work this morning by Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles. I'd never heard of her/her band before. Listened to a few more tracks during planning time and looked her up on the google machine. From Boston area, apparently. Good stuff. Oh, apparently they have a new album that came out a month or 2 ago I need to hear....
  16. I saw the keyboard player in the post from the MPs when I was listening to the download. They sounded really good, though, as Elmo has been with them awhile now, and....Bostrom (don't know if he's "back" or was just filling in for his fill-in!). In the past, I've downloaded a bunch of stuff from Bostrom's site (not sure if he still has some of the 80s/early 90s stuff up there).
  17. Did you catch some shows then? Those March '73 set lists became so monstrous (18-20 tunes in the 1st sets) they started breaking into 3 sets in May (only to go back to massive set lists through a lot the summer)!
  18. Off-topic: Did you see (on fb) the Meat Puppets posted a sbd of a recent show in CA? Bostrom on drums!
  19. I was back home in CT briefly in August of '89 when rumors started flying about The Stones possibly playing small club, Toad's Place. Hard to believe a rumor like that, and I (we) brushed it off. Well, I guess they had been rehearsing for weeks in a remote part of CT and actually DID play Toad's to a crowd of just over 500 people a night after the rumors started. Their first live performance in 5 yrs or so. Still kicking myself in the ass for not even attempting to follow up and head to Toad's Place that night.
  20. Yep. I mean, really, unless you have super-expensive lower seated (no GA Field) and can actually see them, why not accept that you'll be watching them mostly on the large screens. As long as the sound is good....
  21. Ditto. But, it's The Stones and my wife nor I have ever seen them. We decided to put up with the cost and hassle to make it happen.
  22. I've been able to get in and get better seats, right now even, but it won't take my Visa, only Amex!
  23. My wife just got front row nosebleeds for $100 each. I'm still in line.
  24. Seriously. "You have 2,000 people and 15,000 bots in front of you."
  25. Got the same thing right now..."2000+ people in front of you". Buncha horseshit. Supposed to be a "random selection" for place in line. I have 2 screens open, too (which probably everyone else does as well, thus the problem).
