  1. Pretty sure an action of that financial magnitude would need some legislation behind it.
  2. I had a friend make the same point about Buttigieg. Maybe accurate, but I didn't see it that way last night. I think 3X he Buttigieg accused Sanders of wanting to burn the whole thing down.
  3. I watched the first episode of Hulu's new High Fidelity series based on the Nick Hornby book. Rob is now a female played by Zoe Kravitz. I enjoyed the first episode to watch more later.
  4. Ours was fairly efficient. Once the results left the precinct?? I think we will rightfully lose our first in the nation status. Sorry, everybody.
  5. Today, I am anxiously awaiting my neighborhood caucus. Tomorrow, a day off and all the flights in Des Moines will be departures.
  6. A good day for the new DBT release. Thoughts and Prayers When the carnage was over you could hear the cellphones ringing You could smell gunpowder in the air And on the bloody ground the LEDs were blinking Deliver us from evil, thoughts and prayersThey're lined up on the playground, their hands all in the air See it on our news feed and we cry out in despair They're counting up the casualties, everyone's choosing sides There's always someone to blame, never anywhere to hideThoughts and prayers Thoughts and prayersThis white noise in my head, I think I need a filter A pressure valve to keep
  7. Current feeling https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtVyl402W5s
  8. I liked Lizzo. I liked Usher, but thought the Prince tribute could have been better.
  9. Thanks for sharing that. Definitely adds some nuance to the situation.
  10. According to Wikipedia, she refused to testify in the criminal trial. That led to the dismissal of charges. A civil case was settled out of court. I can't blame a woman for not wanting to subject herself to the kind of cross-examination that would come from the type of defense attorneys Kobe could afford. Again, I don't mean to drag everybody down or shit on the dead, it's just most of the adulation I've seen poured out is so pure.
  11. Like these photos so much more than when I saw them on my phone. Good stuff, as usual.
  12. I am shocked at how little his rape allegation story is receiving as part of his obituary. A friend brought it up on Facebook and was slammed by people who were indignant about the Kavanaugh appointment. I don't get it. IIRC, the evidence against Bryant was pretty strong.
  13. I thoroughly enjoyed The Two Popes. I would describe it as charming, except there are some harrowing scenes showing Fancis as a young Jesuit trying to navigate the Argentinian dictatorship and making some horrible decisions/compromises.
  14. Raconteurs had a great set on the latest ACL. Brendan Benson looked like he walked off the set of a Tommy Tutone video or something. Very early MTV Vive with his wardrobe and hair.
  15. I vaguely remember hearing of Uncle Tupelo and thinking, "That's a great name for a band." I think they played an event here in Des Moines for the Drake Relays. Then, when they split, I remember reading reviews of A.M. and Trace that reminded me of when Husker Du broke up and Bob Mould released Workbook (my favorite LP of all time) and Grant Hart released Intolerance. I bought them both. I played A.M. a bit more. Then Being There made Wilco one of my favorite bands.
  16. He had some ups and downs in his life, losing his daughter and wife in quick succession. He did, it seems to me, hit a sweet spot in fame. Widely regarded as the best drummer in rock, if he took off his hat, he could probably walk past many of his biggest fans without being recognized. RIP. Sorry I never saw him live.
  17. So the show was about an hour and a half?
  18. Really?? At this point I assume you're at 24/7. Can't listen to more than that.
  19. Based on Wilco's year-end recommendation, I am listening to Arthur Russell's Iowa Dream. I was interested since I live in Iowa. I don't ever remember hearing of him before. Turns out he died in 1992. I am really surprised to learn of this gap in my musical knowledge. Great, great stuff!
