  1. Koln Concert is pretty much the definitive live improvised piece released as album. Nels is doing the same thing. They will sound completely different as Keith's was a solo piano piece, very much blues based. This will sound avant garde and disonant, but they sure do have a lot to do with each other.
  2. If there is a line to be drawn, personal insults is a good place to draw it. I also see where A-Man is coming from. To me, it doesn't get old. But I've been active here for about of 1/3 of the time as you and don't spend much time here per day. For the most part, there's just a handful of people who seem to post the "controversial" stuff. Wouldn't it make more sense for those who don't like what certain people tend to post to just put those certain people on ignore? The mods get to decide, of course. It's "their site" and the get to set the tone they want. My wife moderates ano
  3. You're absolutely right. But I see value in being immature, egotistical and insulting, at least when on an internet forum. That may sound strange, and doesn't describe a lot of my posts here, but let me try to explain myself. I started coming around here regularly about 3 years ago after seeing one of the residency shows. What I loved (and still love, periodically) about VC is the anarchy of it all. That anarchy seems to have been dying a slow death. To me, that's a shame. VC at it's best (from my perspective, at least) means you could go from one incredibly earnest thread about poli
  4. Interesting. Keith Jarrett's Koln Concert is a favorite of mine.
  5. Bump... Just saw that CBS Sunday Morning is profiling Mavis Staples this Easter morn.
  6. Iggy Pop - Lust for Life CCR - Fortunate Son Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench
  7. 1st one tbat comes to mind is Jackson Browne's "These Days" as sung by Nico. Lots of Bob Mould songs break my heart, but even the melodic ones don't strike me as beautiful.
  8. The demise of the daytime soap gives me a glimmer of hope for western civilization.
  9. Even after I remind of of this gem from the Wilco sells out to VW thread?
  10. Just scan your receipt and post it here. Then I'll be satisfied. Come to think of mine, I got mine through legitimate channels, but it was still free (amazon gift card).
  11. How many people on this board have their LP and didn't pay for it?? Musicians have to get paid too.
  12. Nishioka stands tall against Swisher, breaks leg in process Not a lot of depth at infield. :/
  13. I am working under the assumption that Neil has been somewhat smart with his money. He holds a lot of California real estate with his ranch, he started a school for disabled children, was a major stockholder in Lionel model railroads, has sold lots of albums with Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, and as a solo artist, and has toured extensively. Granted, he's flighty and probably given to reckless behavior from time to time, but there's no reason to assume he needs the money. If the money help him and his family live the kind of life they want to and people are willing to pay the ticket cost, the

  15. It'll be interesting to see where this goes. His introduction was full of arguments I agree with. Primarily, that students in a democratic society need to be taught about religion to be well educated citizens. And, as at least 3/4 of Americans identify themselves as Christian, that instruction in it should be emphasized. Religion clearly impacts many areas of our modern lives and Christianity, our political lives, especially. His history of religious education in America, however, seems to glorify the time when student learned to read (via New England, McGuffey, etc. Readers) by reading r

  17. That album that came out in 2007 was (is??) on iTunes. It's called For Truth if Not Love. My wife likes it, me not so much. It's much blander R&B stuff. Too bad, that '95 album had 4-5 great songs.
  18. I'd be much more likely to give props to someone who transforms a song I don't like into one I do (e.g., Richard Thompson's Oops I Did it Again) than someone who does a cover of a song I like in a style I don't like. Whether or not he did something different on Idol is irrelevant to me.
  19. Heard My Country Disappeared (+ great Old 97s, Son Volt, Lyle Lovett) at a chain in Carlsbad, CA called Claim Jumper. Must've had some muzak Americana channel playing.
