  1. I am shocked at how little his rape allegation story is receiving as part of his obituary. A friend brought it up on Facebook and was slammed by people who were indignant about the Kavanaugh appointment. I don't get it. IIRC, the evidence against Bryant was pretty strong.
  2. I thoroughly enjoyed The Two Popes. I would describe it as charming, except there are some harrowing scenes showing Fancis as a young Jesuit trying to navigate the Argentinian dictatorship and making some horrible decisions/compromises.
  3. Raconteurs had a great set on the latest ACL. Brendan Benson looked like he walked off the set of a Tommy Tutone video or something. Very early MTV Vive with his wardrobe and hair.
  4. I vaguely remember hearing of Uncle Tupelo and thinking, "That's a great name for a band." I think they played an event here in Des Moines for the Drake Relays. Then, when they split, I remember reading reviews of A.M. and Trace that reminded me of when Husker Du broke up and Bob Mould released Workbook (my favorite LP of all time) and Grant Hart released Intolerance. I bought them both. I played A.M. a bit more. Then Being There made Wilco one of my favorite bands.
  5. He had some ups and downs in his life, losing his daughter and wife in quick succession. He did, it seems to me, hit a sweet spot in fame. Widely regarded as the best drummer in rock, if he took off his hat, he could probably walk past many of his biggest fans without being recognized. RIP. Sorry I never saw him live.
  6. So the show was about an hour and a half?
  7. Really?? At this point I assume you're at 24/7. Can't listen to more than that.
  8. Based on Wilco's year-end recommendation, I am listening to Arthur Russell's Iowa Dream. I was interested since I live in Iowa. I don't ever remember hearing of him before. Turns out he died in 1992. I am really surprised to learn of this gap in my musical knowledge. Great, great stuff!
  9. Couldn't agree more. Someone recommended it to me. I watched 10 minutes and gave up. I watched a couple of movies on a flight Tuesday: John Wick 3. Parts were fun, but the action scenes are getting really reptetive. I will most likely skip the inevitable (and strongly hinted at) #4. Also watched Blinded by the Light. I good, but short of great, movie. Directed by the director of Bend it Like Beckham which is still a favorite of mine. Doesn't live up to it, but seriously fun.
  10. I know we don't post them up here, but go out and look for the videos of Wilco and Robyn together. They're great.

  12. Only 2 epsiodes in. I keep forgetting about it. Can't wait! Mike Judge may be the most underrated satirist of our age.
  13. I'm curious how others feel. I found it unlistenable when it first came out. I re-listened to quite a bit of it just now, same reaction.
  14. Joe Pera Talks With You. Season two started airing this week.
  15. I like the Old 97s Christmas album from last year.
  16. I would love to participate, but I've lost all concept of time.
  17. Love is Everywhere (Beware) in an Ally Bank commercial.
  18. I took my 14 year old son to Jojo Rabbit. He and his friend liked it. I'm glad he's getting into weird stuff. I was hoping for a more powerful ending, but it was a very good movie. Sam Rockwell is so good.
  19. Bookmark this post. Wilco is in by 2025, maybe sooner. Edit: I guess I should add my reasoning. It seems like YHF is just too universally lauded as a classic and important LP to ignore.
  20. The Mandalorian is pretty sweet. A great western set in the Star Wars universe AND Werner Herzog among many others.
  21. Today I am online at church awaiting the end of my daughter's choir rehearsal. I am wondering if any of the bot topics on this forum are setting off any alarm bells.
  22. The last time I saw Wilco in a sit-down theater (TWL tour), I left disappointed. I don't know if it was the crowd or the band, but I decided part of it was the setting. I think I was wrong. Last night's show may have been my favorite. They were great. The OTJ songs jumped of the stage in a way that surprised me. Lots of faves including closing with I'm A Wheel. I was in an area where people were sitting most of the time. The seats directly behind me were empty, so I didn't hear complaints when I stood alone from time to time. I thought the crowd was very receptive and the band gave them exac
