  1. This reminds me of a comment Jeff made at a show in West Des Moines before SBS came out: "Here's another mid-tempo rocker from Wilco."
  2. Does the executor of Harry Caray's estate know that Mikael stole Harry's glasses?
  3. There are some great songs (One Wing, My Country Disappeared), but some not so great (You And I, Everlasting Everything [their worst, IMO]) and very, very bland production. I think BBN is a poor attempt to recapture the KrautRock vibe of Spiders. Overall, it's their weakest album. I like it better than many do, but it is their weakest, I think.
  4. I will tune in. Mike Judge rarely fails miserably. I think it'll be good for a chuckle.
  5. This is exactly why I may skip this movie.
  6. A friend also couldn't put it down. It's on my list.
  7. Oh geez. When I saw him a couple of years ago, you could tell he was really down on his luck (actually, more lack of ambition than luck). I hope his new CD put enough $$ in his pocket to help him recover from this.
  8. I would think years of smoking is also a necessary ingredient, but I could be wrong.
  9. For wanting a reason for your opinion?
  10. I am not asking this in jest. Is Andrew Sullivan still a conservative? It seems like most of what I read (usually through GON, but sometimes I happen upon his stuff elsewhere) is anti-Republican stuff. Is he for reining in spending, lowering taxes, balancing the budget, gun rights, an aggressive foreign policy, ending abortion rights, "traditional marriage"? Now I consider myself conservative, but don't agree with everything on this list. Does he agree with any? eta: Has he basically gone through a Huffington-like transformation?
  11. The evidence may or may not turn out. Your perception of this guy's motives have very little to do with his actual motives. Let the investigation continue before you jump to conclusions. As far as the quote from the Sullivan blog, I would say this: What some random, anonymous internet person says these women said sickens me.
  12. I wouldn't expect to be inspired by a Super Bowl halftime show.
  13. I think you missed the point. I believe the point being made is this: Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold didn't listen to much Marilyn Manson and early indications are that Jared Laughner didn't listen to much Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, or Rush Limbaugh. Like I said earlier, they pollute the culture as do a lot of other things. And all the background noise of divisiveness and hatred in politics, entertainment, video games, etc. takes its toll on all of us in ways we cannot quantify, but to use this tragedy to blame political opponents when no evidence exists to support it is plain wrong.
  14. Tom, I watched about 1/2 to 3/4 of the video. I honestly got tired of his holier than thou tone, so missed the portion you reference. I may go back and watch it later. I want to add this: There is enormous tragedy with this shooting. So many innocent people dead and injured. The intended target may live, let's all hope (and pray if like me, you're so inclined) so. Congressperson Giffords seems like a rarity these days. From what I have read, she seems to be an honest, caring, thoughtful politician who was devoted to public service, not self-publicity, personal enrichment, or zealous
  15. I have mixed feelings about this. Having read Columbine, it's obvious that Eric Harris was a true "psychopath" and that the cultural factors the media wanted to play had a very limited role. It's way too early to ascribe motivations to the suspect in yesterday's tragedy. Yet pundits like Keith Olbermann are already exploiting this tragedy to ascribe blame to their political opponents. We have no idea what was going through this sick person's brain yet. Had he seen Palin's disgusting cross-hairs? We have no evidence to suggest he had. We have an incredibly polluted culture, both politic
  16. I woman came into the Borders where I work p/t last night and was mad that we didn't have any Gerry Rafferty. I wanted to say, "We didn't know he was going to die suddenly, causing you to want to buy some of his music, and by the way, since you only want Baker Street, and maybe Stuck in the Middle With You, just go to iTunes."

  18. Thanks for the reminder. I tend to get all my movies from the public library. They usually have an excellent selection, but don't have that. I will search out other channels or ask the library to buy it. They usually but requested items.
  19. That and its sequel are the only Linklater movies my wife likes. We enjoy them together.
  20. I will probably do that. But I have two 5 year olds running around and it's hard for me to get quality movie time, so I wanted to know which was better regarded.
