Top 3 most underwhelming bands/artists you've ever seen
uncool2pillow replied to Mrs. Peel's topic in Someone Else's Song
Yeah, I agree. If the solo acoustic show was in the 90s, I don't know how it could've possibly been underwhelming. -
Bob has a new album out soon. Decent interview and GREAT video of a damn good new song on Newsweek.

Why do you come to VC regularly? I like to see what's going on in this little corner of the WWW. Music, politics, sports, beer, good times... What do you get out of coming here? Lots of laughs. Good info on music, movies, books. How did you get into VC? I first discovered it after a 2003 Wilco show. I think I joined after my 2nd Wilco show, but started posting regularly about a year ago after the residency. Do you consider yourself a Wilco fan, even if you hate AM/SBS/BT/MA/MA2/whichever album blew chunks? I think they're all pretty damn good. How would you define being a Wilco fan?

50s, superb but overrated because of his race. 60s, mostly crappy movies, comeback was good 70s, a few good singles, but good lord... I wonder what would've happened had he lived. Could he have made another comeback to respectability or would have floundered further into weirdness like his former son-in-law, Michael.

Jay Farrar (love his recorded work, but his show -- solo acoustic w/ 1 guitarist accompanying -- was terrible) Chick Corea Frank Black (shortly before the Pixies reunion) -

Seeing your 1st concert surprised me. Based on some of your posts, I figured you were closer to my age (38 soon to be 39). 32 according to your profile. -
Best of luck to you!

YHF. Parts of it a dreamy and may induce sleep if you're overly tired, in which case you could remedy that w/ Stooges "Raw Power" or Iggy "Lust for Life".

I think Bob Mould's music has gone to pot since he became "happy". Do I wish he was still depressed to make music I enjoy? No. I'm a glad he made some incredible art during some very dark periods? Yes. But having had close family members suffer through depression, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

A friend sent me a link to these Kutiman Videos. Pretty cool stuff.

A friend of mine is raving about the new Safari, but he belongs to the Cult of Apple. I don't think he could be objective. I use Firefox because it's the only IE alternative on my school computer AND the Foxmarks plugin kicks ass.

the songs that inspire(d) your favorite artist(s)
uncool2pillow replied to HungryHippo's topic in Someone Else's Song
I think Coltrane (at least the Coltrane that recorded Ascension) would've appreciated Husker Du's cover of Eight Miles High. -
It was between Beggars, Let it Bleed, and Exile. I picked Exile because it has so few radio staples. It was the first Stones album I listened to for itself, not for what I heard on classic rock. For a a somewhat similar reason, I almost voted for Emotional Rescue. The first Stones album being released. I really like the title track (as strange as it is) and "She's So Cold" just rocks.

Were there any solid leads on acts coming to 80/35?

They brought in Sage Rosenfels from Houston to challenge him for the starter. Now there's discussion about trying to get Cutler on the cheap. I bet the Lions would give up more than the Vikings to get Cutler, though. Jackson had a couple of decent games this season, but I think Childress finally realizes he's reached his potential, and it just wasn't he hoped it was.

He really wanted to sign w/ the Vikes, but they pretty much admitted they couldn't pay what other suitors could.

I also watched this last night. It was barely okay. At almost two hours, the could've easily edited 40 minutes.
-
I doubt many of us listened to him regularly, and as this board is left of center, probably actively disliked much of what he said. But you have to admire the way he said it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Harvey "...and you you know... the rest of the story."

Ha, just told my wife. She's not happy. We'll see how Rosenfels does for the Queens. I have a feeling he'll beat out Jackson for the starting position. We'll need to draft a QB. I read that T.J. Houshmandzadeh wants to be a Viking. Not sure we can afford him. A decent QB w/ Berrian and Housmandzadeh as targets might give Peterson some more space to work with, and if our defense stays solid, who knows??

Glad to hear some good news. Best of luck to you!
