  1. That would be the best album title since The Replacements - Let it Be
  2. Certain scenes made my palms sweat. I'm glad there's people in the world like him. I'm also glad I'm not one of them.
  3. I understand getting teary at this. I hope there comes a day when this kind of thing is commonplace enough not to elicit an emotional response.
  4. Loaded was part of a 3-cd live release. If anyone wants to help me acquire just Loaded, feel free to PM me.
  5. Excellent. Downloading now. Did you listen to it? How's the recording quality?
  6. Lots, mostly because of other commitments or not wanting to fork over the $$. Recently Ben Folds just last week, Andrew Bird, Wilco (in West Des Moines, just a month after I saw them in Chicago), on and on...
  7. Listening to it right now, it's great!
  8. W. meh. A few good scenes. My favorite moment was Rumsfeld eating Pecan Pie. While I don't doubt that Cheney feels the way he was portrayed in the "empire" speech, but I don't think he would've given it a room that included Powell.
  9. Gish was excellent, Siamese Dream was darned good, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness had some decent songs but was overblown. That was almost 15 years ago. I wonder what would've become of them had they not reached arena-rock god status. My guess is they'd still be putting out some great music. Did anyone else like the Zwan CD?
  10. Can't find it on the Onion's Homepage, but on Facebook, I got this: Perfect! Somehow, I think Obama read this on his Blackberry and laughed his ass off...
  11. Look at how Animal "watches" Buddy in amazement at the end! Some great guest musicians on Sesame St. linked here.
  12. Mother - John Lennon Too Far Down - Husker Du
  13. I'm not sure if this counts as a surprisingly good concert, but I found a surprisingly good jazz guitarist, Mark Whitfield, playing with Cyrus Chestnut. Chestnut was doing an Xmas tour about 7 years ago of mostly Guaraldi Peanuts music. Whitfield was phenomenal. I bought a CD that was underwhelming and he doesn't seem to be doing much noteworthy now.
  14. I'm pretty sure they could cover anything and do it MORE than justice. Maybe even "Revolution 9". That's a band I don't listen to nearly enough.
  15. I like Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, and, for modern blues, Robert Cray.
  16. From today's Wall Street Journal. Link might not work unless you're a subscriber. Let me know. It's a good defense of Stewart's POV. Meanwhile, NBC Exec Jeffrey Zucker defends CNBC against Stewart. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't see one specific refutation of what Stewart has said.
  17. I imagine this is just the tip of the iceberg as water shortages lead to real problems out west. Tens of millions of people have upped and moved to the desert in the past few decades. How many of them do you think seriously considered the ramifications on the water supply when they did so?
  18. Taking a practical approach, which seems more likely? The billions of religious people around the world will see the error of their ways and join in a secular brave new world or the embrace an ecumenical approach that means treating all people -- religious or not -- equally. Granted, neither seems likely anytime soon. Maker, you must not know too many people who have done charitable deeds inspired by their faith. If so, you would know just how hollow, "a superfluous element that effective bribes otherwise selfish folks into dong selfless deeds..." is.
  19. Speaking of actively hating, I saw a metal band called Balaam and the Angel open for Iggy at the Metro in Chicago in 1988. At first I thought they were there only to piss off the crowd to work them into the kind of frenzy that Iggy would want, but the Wikipedia article says they were label mates back then. I can almost guarantee the only records they sold to Iggy audience members were purchased out of irony.
  20. What's this "independent music store" you speak of?
