The Iowa legislature is set to strip public employees of most collective bargaining rights following the course set by Governor Scott Walker and the state of Wisconsin a few years back. Fuck 'em.

The oddest things that happened to you at a concert

I feel like I've brought this up here before. I was the recipient (victim?) of an Iggy Pop stage dive at the Metro in July, 1988. Lost a topsider. Who wears topsiders to Iggy shows? Me! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I don't think they've figured out polling in the cell phone era, either. Fewer polls, more reporters. Of course, that's more expensive and the media is bleeding money. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

This is hyperbole, but we should be skeptical of a very insular media that has done a very shitty job understanding, reporting, and taking seriously the power of the large number of people who saw Trump as a feasible president. The should be held accountable and a healthy dose of skepticism is always a good thing.

Good for you, Stewie! I know it isn't fun. My father in law's best friend (extended family to my wife, for sure) messaged me some right wing propaganda bullshit video about Hillary. I politely reminded him that I was a moderate Republican until a few months ago and that I would be happy to discuss issues, but will not view a video intended only as a troll and shared without any critical thinking or commenting on his part. Can you think of another example where a guy is kicked out of a band but remains supportive and friendly with that band? I can't. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Jesus, I cited an example where this wasn't the case. Of course, I could be lying about my friend at the Olson/Louris concert, but I am not. Michael Stipe would be another example. Years and years ago when he had on a dozen t-shirts with different political slogans. I know a lot of people who supported those causes and thought it was stupid. In general, do Republicans hate Meryl Streep's rants and Democrats hate Ted Nugent's? Of course. But sometimes people hate poorly-delivered messages even if they agree with the content.

I am quickly losing the ability to pay attention to this shit. I have called and emailed federal and state lawmakers more in the past 2 weeks than the last 20 years before. I used to be a moderate Republican, but there is no such thing anymore. Supporting Republicans gets you an incredibly radical agenda, Trump or not. Iowa is on the verge of outlawing Medicaid for family planning services excluding abortion.

Best use of music in a TV or film scene

Painting with a broad brush there. I remember seeing Marc Olson and Gary Louris on tour together during the Bush years. Marc Olson had written a protest album about the Iraq war. The songs sucked. I'd voted for Bush, my friend hadn't. We both hated those songs, though the rest of the concert was fantastic. Neil Young's Bush protest album also sucked, politics aside, it just plain sucked. I appreciated Tweedy's message. It was delivered with a bit of humor and humility. If others don't like it, you cannot simply assume it's because they disagree politically.

Yes! This, exactly. I really wanted to talk to Scorsese after watching this.

I almost always hate modern music in historical film. This is an exception. -
The DeVos hearing today was a shitshow. God bless Tim Kaine, Al Franken, and Maggie Hassan (whom I am not at all familiar with besides this https://twitter.com/mattmfm/status/821538909893099521). I have never been so worried about the future of my profession. We finally get rid of NCLB and now this.

Dave Lowery's singing and songwriting permeate both bands. I'm guessing it's a pretty major overlap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I don't think he'll do one. But I didn't think it was possible for him to get the nomination or win the election. I've stopped saying impossible regarding him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The only thing I know for sure is that Just Make it Stop off of The Invisible Way has become a favorite of mine. I listened to it on a loop more than once in 2016, the year I buried my mom, grandmother, a co-worker, a friend, and one of my kids' teachers; and the year I moved my dad into assisted living.

He needs to be impeached on day 1 if he is not 100% divested from all of his business interests. Also, journalists and the FBI need to be carefully monitoring his family's business dealings and the impact his decisions as president have on them.

Saxophone Colossus is a favorite of mine. Some of Max Roach's best playing, IMO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

People are going to keep dying in Syria and Hollywood and a fat orange fuck is going to be our president for 345 days of it.
