Have you met your musical idols...was it a good expierence?
uncool2pillow replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
Bob Mould - He is consistently gracious to fans. I've spoken with him after many shows. Always very generous with his time and attention. Richard Thompson - Pretty much the same as Bob. Old 97s - Murry, Philip, and Kenneth are very laid back. Rhett was decent enough, but he seemed to spend time with fans begrudgingly. -

Favorite concerts you saw this year?

I only saw a few. All memorable in their own way. Marc Maron in April in Iowa City - Does comedy count. I saw him about a month after my mom died. Great laughs after a shitty month. KISS - Took my 11 year old son. Bucket list. They really know how to do an arena show and push all their fans' buttons. Bob Mould - I used to see him about once a year. First band show I'd seen since 1998. Tremendous fun, especially since I took my pastor and her husband. Jason Isbell - Never disappoints. Such a great show. He pays attention to all the details: sound, lights, set list, connecting to his -

I just realized I had no idea whether he was still alive. He is at age 86. That alien probably gave him the secret to immortality. -

This is exactly my experience with WTF. No exaggeration to say that it really helped me get through this year that my mom passed. Most of the others I enjoy have already been mentioned. Freakonomics (my 11 year old daughter enjoys most episodes too The Sporkful Radiolab Footy for Two (soccer podcast featuring Freakonomics' Stephen Dubner and his teenage son) Dear Hank & John (young adult author John Green and his brother. A bit geeky sometimes. Reasonable Doubt - Adam Corolla and Mark Garagos - Corolla's a bit of a douche and a master of the strawman argument, but I keep on listening T

Listening now. It's amazing how age changes the perception of time. I distinctly remember when Rolling Stone saluted the 20th anniversary of Sgt. Pepper in 1987. I was 17. That album had existed my whole life and I was aware of most of my life, as long as I can remember. Twenty years seemed like an eternity to me. Now Being There is 20 years old. I've been in my teaching career longer than that and it seems like a flash. The album still sounds fresh to these ears.
