  1. A great story. Positive vibes to you as you go through chemo! DLR Van Halen > Van Hagar, but DLR's personality leaves a lot to be desired. His interview on Maron was good, though. He comes from old Vaudevillians, IIRC. That makes a lot of sense.
  2. You don't realize how much those songs were with you if you grew up in the 70s an 80s. Took a spin with some of their best. So good!
  3. It was supposed to be a James McCartney show in Des Moines. I think I was confused because that show was booked around the time rumors began about them all forming a band. https://joshgill.wordpress.com/2013/03/14/james-mccartney-to-preview-his-us-tour-in-london/ https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/pop-culture-news/here-come-sons-will-beatles-kids-form-own-band-flna640243
  4. I think I remember them being booked into a venue in Des Moines. I don't know if the show ever happened. Sometime in the past decade?
  5. I could definitely jump on the conspiracy bandwagon but for Pence testing negative. He's still on the line to debate Harris who will wipe the floor up with him.
  6. And Scalia begged Obama to appoint her. She may be qualified, but Democrats should put every obstacle in her path. They need to play hardball. If Biden wins and turns Congress blue, I'd love to see them add two more justices. Hell, add 20.
  7. I'm making some calls for a local candidate today, a friend, but I'm right there with you. As a social studies teacher, I feel like my profession has failed our country.
  8. This is stil happening on my phone and 2 different computers. I cleared my cache and cookies for this site.
  9. Today, I had to reset my password to access this place. Anyone else?
  10. Today I was supposed to see Wilco (w/ Trampled by Turtles) at an outdoor ampitheater here in Des Moines. Salving the wound by listening to the Ashes of American Flags DVD. Just heard Wishful Thinking. A perfect song for these times.
  11. I have it bookmarked. Haven't watched it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_P6ZWUJIa0
  12. They've been around forever. My college roommate 1990-1991 was very into them. I've never given them too much attention. Probably should change that.
  13. I just realized my damn podcast app (Podcast Republic on Android) hasn't been download podcasts I've recently subscribed to. Downloaded many, not all, of the ones I missed.
  14. Lots of people without power around the Des Moines area. We were driving back from the North Shore of Lake Superior to Des Moines on Monday, well after the storm. There were at least 10 semis blown over in a 20 mile stretch north of Des Moines. Every corn field in that area was decimated. I had a couple of big limbs downed, but a friend with a chainsaw and I made very quick work of it. Lucky!
  15. Des Moines show is still showing 2020. I don't expect that to stay that way. #thanksobama
  16. 5th grade, fall of 1980. The Commodores at Hilton Coliseum, Ames, Iowa. I can find no evidence on the Internet that this or any other Commodores concert ever occurred in Ames. I'm pretty sure they played there at least twice. Second concert is a bit more impressive. The Police. Fall of 1983. UNIDome, Cedar Falls, Iowa.
  17. I really feel like my district is dropping the ball. I read these detailed, reasonable plans and feel like our district is basically saying, "You're creative. Figure it out." Their hands are somewhat tied by the governor, but I look around other districts in central Iowa and wonder what's going on in mine.
