  1. Here's another good one. This one's an AP photo. I wonder how long that guy thinks he could march peacefully next to a police officer in China, Syria, or North Korea. No Fascism here, move on please. Don't know why the photo doesn't show, but if you're curious, you should be able to copy and paste the URL.
  2. This is a photo a friend shared from a neighbor. My friend lives on Mich. Ave. so I assume that's the location. Looks like the police state has done a top notch job of silencing the opposition.
  3. I love Rhett and the '97s. Very cool. And recorded for posterity.
  4. The police limit my freedom every fucking day. It's their fucking job. The limit my freedom to drive drunk, to pop a cap in your ass, to litter, etc. what do you think would happen to prosestors in Pyongyang? They would be fucking killed. Please shut the fuck up trying to equate the 2.
  5. My wife's pretty sure that's Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray.
  6. Never cared much for disco, but Brian Eno commented to Bowie while they were working in Berlin that he had just heard the future. This was the song he had heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=f0h8Pjf4vNM
  7. Mikael sure tweeted lots of cool photos of the place. https://twitter.com/#!/mikaeljorgensen
  8. I hate the Yankees and he's been such abig part of their success that I've never liked him. But, jeez. Not a way to go out.
  9. I wish I could remember buying it. I know I dl'd it from Napster first. Some of the tracks were incomplete and I'm pretty sure I got some of the sequencing wrong when I burned a CD. I remember listening to it on the way home from Omaha to Des Moines after a Bob Mould show. At the time, Bob was my favorite. But this was the tour in support of his crappy electronic album, Modulate. That ride home was, in retrospect the beginning of the switch from Bob to Wilco being my favorite.
  10. Not saying I agree, Lamrod, but if it is, that's quite a feat. Also, Anthony, I did the same thing.
  11. As a registered Republican, I pretty much agree w/ this. The Grover Norquist people are NOT deficit hawks. They are interested only in protecting the assets of the wealthy. There is valid concern, IMO, for that. But don't be fooled. Many of them don't give a rat's ass about the deficit.
  12. If they didn't, that's a strike against their karma.
  13. I think I'm sadder about Levon. Chilton's death was such a shock that it's hard to compare. I love Big Star and some of the other stuff Chilton did, but I connected mostly through Westerberg. I knoew that w/o Chilton there would be no Westerberg, so I am incredibly grateful for his legacy. Levon... He has to have one of the top 5 voices in rock and roll. And his joy and compassion just always seemed to be right there. The Band was kind of in the background of my musical conciousness until about 5 years ago. His last 2 LPs are tremendous. The man had a lifelong career from the early da
  14. Avetts at Des Moines' 80/35 festival, not until July. Then Wilco plays a free festival in Sioux City the next day. It's a 3+ hour drive, so we'll see. Maybe Alejandro Escovedo in May.
  15. Godspeed, Levon. In addition to decades of brillian musicianship, he was the narrator and Ridley in the Right Stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cE2t6Sg_H74
  16. Same weekend as 80/35. I might make a mad dash for Sioux City Sat, but it's not that close.
  17. I volunteered 2 years ago and will again this year for Des Moines' 80/35 festival. Did setup the day before. Some heavy lifting, cool people, and a free ticket to a festival that included spoon and yo la tango. Avetts this year.
  18. Well, shit. I'd forgotten Ed Bradley died. Damn. That was a great group of journalists.
