  1. She might want to talk to Kate Gosselin for pointers on how to exploit her kids. Kate's done a pretty stellar job at that over the past couple of years. No doubt she'll have a TLC reality show any time now.
  2. The first time I tried reading Owen Meany I didn't finish. About a year later I picked it up and swore I was going to finish it and ended up loving it. Although every time I see something typed in all caps, I can't help but hear the voice of Owen Meany. Or what I think the voice should sound like.
  3. I've tried to like this book, but to me, it reads like a text book.
  4. I've read the Old Testament and it's pretty entertaining. The Red Tent is on my list and that's about the story of Dinah from the book of Genesis. So I might not burn quite as bad as the rest.
  5. You should see my reading list for the past 6 months. I've probably read about 30 books and probably 5 of them were written after 1900. I love classics.
  6. This is tough... 1. A Prayer for Owen Meany - John Irving 2. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - Betty Smith 3. The Red Tent - Anita Diamant 4. Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte 5. The Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kingsolver Honorable mention to Wuthering Heights and Mansfield Park
  7. Enjoy your time in CO, it's beautiful! I would love to go back to the Grand Canyon, but Jason is deathly afraid of heights and I don't think he'd do well there.
  8. I think the government should pay for me to go back to school, but my "lack of financial need" is kind of standing in the way. Apparently we're supposed to use our emergency savings and our retirement accounts to pay for school. Kind of an incentive to be irresponsible with our money, I'd say.
  9. Our superintendent made a comment to a family friend earlier this year saying that he wasn't going to call off school unless it was an absolute emergency. He hates making the days up at the end of the year. He's pretty much stuck to that. That said, we didn't even have a delay today but a lot of the area schools were either delayed two hours or closed.
  10. I agree. Also, it's not such a bad thing to co-sleep. Oh, and the last thing is to just let them be kids.
  11. I could live without cable as long as I had internet. I would need internet because I have online classes and to actually attend school would cost me more because it's an hour away and I'd have to pay daycare. So I'd actually save by having the internet. I could live without concert tickets since I haven't been to a concert since 2005 anyways. I could live without bottled water. I don't know the last time I bought water. I could live without coffee (believe it or not) I haven't had it in about a month. I don't have premium movie channels. I'm not sure about cell phones. I like t
  12. A friend of the family lost his job on Friday. Luckily, the company he worked for was able to pay him 1 years salary as a severance package. He's about 2 semesters away from getting his bachelor's degree and his wife is a stay at home mom. He was a supervisor at NSK, a company that makes ball bearings for the automotive industry.
  13. I told my husband that I want to get some snuggies just for the purpose of wearing them to sporting events to embarrass our kids. I would die if my parents showed up to one of my games with those things.
  14. I know. I also don't understand the pirate restaurant one either.

  16. Lady Susan, The Watsons, and Sandition by Jane Austen. I just finished Lady Susan.
  17. Jay got an email from our mortgage guy the other day with a rate of 4.5% for people with a FICO score of 720 or higher.
  18. Northanger Abbey - Jane Austen I read about 50 books, including some re-reads (Angela's Ashes, The Grapes of Wrath, The Little House on the Prairie series, the Crucible, The Good Earth). I hope to read more in 2009! On deck, I have Pride and Prejudice (re-read), The Corrections, The Pillar's of the Earth, and The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, and another Jane Austen book that has 3 of her lesser known novels in it, but I can't remember which they are and I'm too lazy to look it up right now. After that I will be done with Jane Austen unless they unearth some book that was never published. A
  19. Anyone under 14 can have a facebook page as long as they lie about their birth date. My son is 11 and has one.
  20. My ex works for Ford and he's off from the 19th through the 5th for the holiday, like he is every year and then he's off for the following week (or maybe two) as a lay off.
  21. We're not doing anything different this year that we haven't done for the past couple of years. We've decided that with Jason's side of the family, only the kids get gifts (there are 10 kids) and the adults were all fine with that. With my family, there's only my mom, my sister, and my nephew. We buy toys for the kid but I usually do something homemade for my mom and sister. This year bath scrubbies, soap, dishcloths, gloves, hats, socks, etc. I think I spent about $20-30 on all of the yarn I used to make that stuff and that's for both of them. With our kids, we set a limit and stic
  22. I've never been to Watertown, NY but about 5 summers ago I vacationed in Watertown, SD and I'm pretty sure if a town is called Watertown (no matter where it is) it sucks.
