  1. ha ha ho! the silly putty works, from the tone bones i have talked to. (however, i never listen to them) quarters can put too much weight on a record and bore a hole through it! (not really) cd oil is snake oil. and 'them who sell it are snake oil salesman. har
  2. what on earth is cd oil?? its an oil thats like 50 bucks an ounce and you rub it on yr collection. some audiowanks really think it sounds better because the light is refracting easier off the disc. these are the same people that have too much money and buy 10000 dollar cables that are 4 yards long.... ugg. taken from one of their "hair potion" sites... "Also, try to listen to the *treated* CDs with different CD players and HiFi systems: this will improve the reliability of the whole testing process. So the Claro works. To me, the main differences are in the mid-high range, where the sound
  3. tell you everything. huh? ok. they are one of the best guitars on the planet. and everyone good plays them. you are automatically better if you play a tele! why you ask? because. fact.
  4. dont worry about it. the purists would argue of course, but some of those same people use "cd oil" ("...it sounds so much more.... woody..") some old record players from old shops still have the original and they sound out of this world. as long as you keep quarters off of the arm, you should have it for a while. you wont ruin any of your records, unless it breaks off. which i doubt would happen. ohh,,, cool thing though. get some silly putty. it pulls the gunk off wonderfully. just be easy pulling the needle out of the putty.
  5. "I don't see all the fuss about releasing an album like this, especially since radioheads stuff is usually super overpriced. 25 bucks for limited edition eps, 40 bucks for records, etc. cds are okay but you can't really jack up prices too much for those." i live in ann arbor, where we have all these boutique record shops and have never, ever paid 40 dollars for a radiohead lp. the most has been 30 and it was dual 10'', which cost way more to make (for some reason). you have to remember that it is only 80 to us. to the average bbc listener (brits) its 40 bucks. thats nothin' (i guess), the pr
  6. everytime i go to elderly's guitars i look at the nash's and love they way they look and play. good choice! dont take any of the rubbish that people give about relicing (want it t look old, play it!) to each his own. personally, i love when my guitars are a bit scuffed, when they look like jewelry, its kind of gross to me, like im flaunting some shiny phallic object i.e.; hair bandz... ok. see you.
  7. whats wrong with artists trying things that are new? radiohead tried to get our of the boring britpop guitar music and they did quite well with their ideas. i think wilco are creative enough, set with limitations, to succeed. they have nels, a guy who can do anything!
  8. does it play all right? if its just on the cardboard, ten you should hold on to it. most things cme from the factory like that. remember you are now dealing with a medium that is not nearly as ubiqutious as it once was. somethings things lack a bit due to that.
  9. i dont mean to be obtuse, but its my favorite song on the record. i was very happy to hear it. thank you guys!
  10. is it me or has john lost weight? maybe its from all the punk rock jumping. that sounds so geeky.....sigh......
  11. off topic. he uses a little amp called oliver, made by jess oliver, the cat who created the ampeg fliptop. a nice sounding amp. i think thats what he uses in the singers.
  12. its alot of fun. take your time and it will be a great guitar. and will add to the sentimentality. i have a tele that i have been playing/ working on for years and i love it to death. see you.
  13. glenn and greg in the same mag! now we need them to share a stage. with nels....
  14. i think he uses alot of hammer on technique and then uses his fuzz factory. i know he likes that thing alot. if i had one, id use it alot too.
  15. i like ryans last 4 albums. i find them amazing. when listening i think about he could be bitching about his dog or being less metaphorical about loosing his girly friends. you know it could be alot worse. evidence is amond pop country stations. jeff and wilco are great. i love all of their stuff. wether it be straight a.m stuff or 15 minute noise radio edits. both are good. both have their fans. and both have their haters. this is from a guy who owns all of the supersilent records and is an avid avant o'rourke wanker. thank you.
  16. there are parts of this album that are really plesant. the last song is great i think. some others too. but holloweenhead is not very well thought out. and by thought out i mean its crap. my 2 poopz.
  17. we ran into him pre lansing show. my friend sai in an awkward tone "hi pat." he walked up to our group of around 7. he said hi and shook hands with us. the same friend said, "i really like your windmills" he said, "well, i didnt make those, pete townshend did." with authority. my friend paused and said to his amusement and ours "well, i like your stylings of them" he was silent. amazing amazing and awkwardly awkward. i find him very cool. he has a neat style about him. and he looks like hes 5. up close he did have grey hair. good guy.
  18. why such a nazi about the thread thing? always? that thread was from two months ago. chill. i have always wondered that. like 2 different groups cant have the same conversation. what if we dont want to join their group. because they are....racists....yeah....racists.....um. ill stop here.
  19. cafe felix is the fucking digs.... do you notice how we all still go there, even with the really shitty service? i have. however............ speaking of impossibles.... i am in germany right now. and just saw a special about german cowboys. they bullride. like all americans do. there is nothing more inviting than a plosive german letting his "schinez" and "schlonz" go on with whimsy, whilst wearing an american flag button doen shirt.
  20. anymore about them selling out. i love wilco. i love what they do and how they do it. they have families. i remember reading in the kot book that they usually made about 30,000 dollars a year. now i dont know if their spouses work, but if not, that isnt much to live off of in a big city. including if you have the guitar habit of mr. tweedy. anyway. i love the idea of marketing their music in adverts. wonderful decision from a wonderful band. lets all bitch about not enough b-sides and how they arent coming to our respective areas.... instead of ripping on them for making a decent living... j
  21. this is the reason the tour nonstop i reckon. so they dont have mad fans asking them if they use batteries or a wall wart for their guitar pedals.
  22. that looks great. i wish i could do that. but i live in an apartment... oh darn. great idea.
