  1. Wow. you pulled this thread out of obsurity. Thanks for posting up. Yea, these are guys making music the old fashioned way. Picking up old songs and making them their own, as well as just playing and singing the heck out of whatever material they are choosing to play. Great stuff. I am would love to understand the technology behind how they have cleaned them up so nicely too. LouieB
  2. This is sad, but as someone who subscribed to the original magazine and kept my subscription until I have now ended up with the dreaded Paste, I am neither suprised nor all that sad. The website didn't fill the hole left by the ending of the print version of No Depression. I rarely read it. Hopefully the music biz will come out the other side of this crises as something different; we shall see I suppose. Stay tuned. LouieB
  3. Strange how things happen like this. Lots of nice press for both here in Chicago. Red Kerr was a particularly good sportscaster. Although Norm was not as good, he was fun as hell to listen to. They will certainly be missed. LouieB

    Wilco Vinyl

Thank goodness Wilco is putting out some merch for us to buy. There hasn't been anything to spend our hard eaned Wilco bucks on in a long time.... LouieB
  5. Park West is not now, nor was it ever a favorite of mine, despite seeing some great shows back in the day when they actually did book good stuff. It has always had a classic night club vibe (intentionally) with tables that are reserved for those willing to put out the extra cash. It used to be really swanky and sort of snooty. It is a gutted movie theater with mirror bar and lots of other mirrors and expansive drinks. It is a much much bigger venue than Lounge Ax, Lounge Ax was a rock club with no tables, usually crowded low ceiling and grungy bathrooms...a classic bar type club, not a
  6. Anyone up.....playing some good stuff tonight...Lucinda, ksome bluegrass and what sounds like Centromatic....and then Wilco...... LouieB
  7. Yes and I saw you too.... Mark and Gary were great, low key, happy looking and told some funny stories. They sounded older but wiser and the new songs, while not quite as thrilling as the Jayhawks material, were all good. I had a great time, since the last time they were in town I was in the hospital and missed them entirely. Gary came out at the end and mingled with the fans. The Autumn DEfense were good, but sort of snoozy, which I think accounted for the constant talking during their set. Up close the audience was quite, but in back the roar became quite loud by the end of the set
  8. Not sure how what he is going regarding the stimulus package and the helping out subprime loans is the same old thing. The bank bailouts is another issue, but the minute the word "nationalize" went out in relation to the banking issue, the stock market tanked. Any kind of additional oversight than Bush's TARP will be better. Strangely stocks keep tanking anyway because any talk of doing anything other than throwing bucketfuls of money at the corporations is met with sceptism by Wall Street. Yea, agreed, the guy can actually talk and MAKE SENSE. And he knows how to THINK. All of this, whi
  9. I nearly bought this at Laurie's but they wouldn't carry the CD because his record company won't take product back. Glad I didn't. It will show up used someday soon I am sure. LouieB
  10. They did???...oh yea....I remember.... The show was great. Mark and Gary were completely on, singng great, telling funny stories, etc. Nice time. LouieB
  11. For sure.....people have been talking at shows ever since they took the chairs out of clubs.....hell they talked even when clubs DID have chairs. Only clubs where they announced that a club was a listening room and inforsed that policy did people NOT talk during music. Meanwhile Jeff can do the Hummingbird dance as long as he is able LouieB
  12. Actually I think he can. Well maybe not in cash strapped Detroit, but everywhere else he certainly will. I would even spend the dough if it weren't right around Rosie's graduation. He has a rabid and older fan base that has known his work for years. Many older artists charge this kind of money and sell quite well. There is a nice article about him in the Trib today. LouieB
  13. Yea yea yea.....WXRT plays them regularly....you must not listen to them at all... I am failry certain you can hear them occasionally on the college stations exept for the fact that Wilco has now become TOO big for those..... LouieB
  14. I guess that means he retires from listening to many good musicians because many of them are DEAD!!!! LouieB
  15. Kanye West..... although not a band at least people know who he is......and he raps...which is very popular I guess... LouieB
  16. it was an evening thing, one showing as I recall. I guess it is easy to get the Music Box for a special showing on a Monday...sort of an off night for a movie. LouieB
  17. I doubt this will sell out, although I could be wrong. IATTBYH didn't but then Wilco was less well known then. Is this a Sound Opinions showing or what?? LouieB
  18. First time in what....15 years...I hope he makes some serious bread on this thing.... LouieB
  19. I love it...yea....weeks not months... You are correct on Daley...not the dumb guy he sometimes appears. Way smarter than your average pol. LouieB
  20. I guess we are not talking about American bands and I guess we aren't talking about important bands that are active either... LouieB
  21. News from the Quinn front...he wants to appoint someone until a special election can be set up to replace Burris (who admittedly has not quit yet) so that he can have it both ways.... In IL if you eliminate everyone associated with either Blago, Ryan, or Daley (not that he has gone to jail yet), it doesn't leave a heck of alot of folks. LouieB
  22. This is sort of the same problem Barack is having....people who are qualified are connected to someone that people don't like or trust (Clinton in Barack's case.) so Quinn appointed someone Blago also felt was qualified. Clearly no matter how much people talk about "change" if you throw a net out into the same old waters, you get the same old fish. I am not complaining..just saying.,...I'm available, but no one wants ME!! LouieB
  23. This could be his scandal. Mostly Quinn is too clean and too bland to be a scandal, but if Burris does resign and he appoints someone new, that will be a scandal. It is time for a real election... LouieB
  24. Stupid mostly....with a touch of racism.... LouieB
