Going to Chicago....what to do, see, stay, etc.
LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
The other day I went somewhere I had never been before that was kind of cool. Stephen Douglas (of Lincoln-Douglas debates fame) is buried on the south side, not far from McCormick Place. There is a big old monument that is just across the IC tracks from Lake Shore Drive. You have to get there from the other side, but it was well worth a visit. I also highly recommend the WWI monument at 31st and King Drive nearby. (The sandwich shop called Munchies is a good place to have lunch too.) Up the street from there is the new statue to the "great migration" which is kind of cool too and can be -
yes, definitely. Go to www.wdbx.com (see the numerous links on other posts) and she is on at 11 PM your time on Thursday night, which is far better than 3 AM your time... which was her slot before. Try this out ahead of time because you have to connect it using iTunes or Real Player or some such thing with the stream. Definitely pencil in February 12 since we are doing the show together.....should be fun and you can even call into the studio. The number is on the main page of the website. LouieB

Rosie lives on Oak street just across the tracks from the Longbranch. Good place. LouieB

For better or worse I will be here to flog it next week anyway. Kinda the proud parent thing I guess...sorry about that. Since she no longer comes here very often I have to do all the shameless self promotion for her. Rosie sounded really excited to be on this new slot when maybe she will have some folks listening. Being on at 2 AM was a real strain. She played a rather eclectic mix of stuff last night, ending with Heavy Metal Drummer when SarahC requested a Wilco song. LouieB

Okay, I am pretty laid back about most of Barack's appointments, figuring most will take their marching orders from him, bu this guy Blair has me a bit concerned. LouieB

wow, cool. Did you go to school there or just live there? Nice, but small town. Yea, that version of Wicked Messenger is on Gone Again. I didn't know that Lester and David Bowie played together either. You learn something new every day. I coudln't hear and Lester in the cut; Rosie is a die in the wool Chicagoan...she called Bowie's group the Art Ensembles...(Chicagoans add an "s" to names all the time.) I will be on the air with Rosie on February 12 (Lincoln's Birthday) if all goes as planned), so PM me your requests if you want. LouieB

At the risk of being a crazy self promoting father, Rosie (formerly Tweedy's Gurl and VC alum), will be on the internet this week at 10 PM Central Time on Thursday for her first non-sleep depriving shift on WDBX in Carbondale. Generally you can stream this through Real Player or iTunes. While she was home for the holidays we loaded up a laundry basket with CDs so she has hundreds of hours of freshly ripped (maybe not brand new) material including rock, country, blues, soul, and folk material. The name of the show is Devil's Radio. Needless to say I will bring this thread back up Thur

What's some of your favorite road trips you have been on?
LouieB replied to remphish1's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
The afore mentioned trip was pretty monumental at the time. My buddy Chris and I took his red jeep with a cloth top and precious little suspension from Chicago to Minneapolis to see our friend John, then across the northern states to Yellowstone, past Salt Lake City and down to the Marin County where we stayed a few days and and then headed back through Yosemite, Nevada and across southern Utah which took an entire day since we ended up on back roads, some of which were dirt and finally ended up in Durango, Colorado for a couple days. The last leg of the trip was from Durango, by way of Colo -

Although I am not as hip as the rest of you and have not yet heard this album, I would like to point out that there was a really nice article about Andrew in the NY Times magazine yesterday that was really well done and has a picture suitable for framing for those with Andrew as a RSBF. LouieB

You should have seen the trip. Trying to give even a small amount of detail in one sentence makes no sense.... LouieB
