A grindcore band from Duluth....which doesn't mean anything.... I have not heard their new one, but their last one, the Great Destroyer was quite good. LouieB

I knew it was someone standing right next to me. I know Sue wrote it down at that point too. LouieB

Love and Mercy apparently was requested by several people. I know one person who requested it by email and another asked for it in line (I don't remember who in line, but I know who on email.) I find it extremely humorous that this is a 5 star album on Amazon, yet there are copies for sale for one cent.....get it while you can for the price of the postage....(and many for sale at $3 or under....) I asked for JWH. LouieB

Sadly clubs close all the time. The Jazz Showcase here in Chicago closed recently as well..... LouieB

I suppose asking for obscure songs is all part of the game at a show like this. Jeff had the option (which he took) not to sing some of them and others he did sing (I also didn't recognize one of the songs....). There were plenty of "hits" and by ending with such popular solo songs as Pecan Pie and Acuff Rose, he hit the right note to end the show on. Love and Mercy was a song Jeff did back in the Lounge Ax days.....It is the one good song off of a rather mediocre album Brian Wilson put out in one of his more depressing periods. I for one hope never to hear Henry and the H Bombs again afte

Actually I think it would make a great biopic rather than a documentary. There is very little to go on in terms of actual documentation, other than alot of newspaper articles. Seeing a huge assemblage of string intruments in ways not commonly used (or even played) today would be pretty cool. Europe's private life turned out to be sort of interesting too, with a wife from the upper crust of black society and a girlfriend who was showgirl from a musical, with whom he had a child that he named James Reese Europe Jr. and was not recognized by the official family, but lived into his 80s. Not to

I have often been accused here of looking at past musical figures as being better than more contemporary ones, but in the past year I have learned about a pioneering musical figure I had never really heard of before. Even those of us who listen to and like older music tend to think of the music industry as having started in the 1920s with the advent of electrical recording the groundbreaking recordings from the "golden age" from the "race and hillbilly" sides such as those that showed up on the Anthology of American Folk Music. Thanks to Archeophone Records I have discovered a smaller but s

Neko was on Sound Opinions today, talking and playing some of the songs. Good stuff!! I suspect the New Pornographers tour is going to kick ass too. LouieB

What a great laid back show. The taking of requests on the sidewalk was wonderful. I requested John Wesley Harding and it got played. Jeff was funny as hell and played 30 songs. The Vic was as close to sold out as I think a benefit like this could be. Sitting in the balcony with Dave and LeeAnn was fun and the sound was great. The balcony was nearly filled to the back wall. I honestly don't understand why the Vic throws people out quite as quickly as it does (they always do, not just last night for this benefit) since they could certainly sell more drinks and good will. As I recall someone already remade St. Pepper.....into a movie and a stinker of an album of the soundtrack..... LouieB

I am not surprised by this.....she sings fairly sunny pop songs.... I am not surprised by this.....she sings fairly sunny pop songs.... All in all I find her totally inoffensive....in a way she may be the Gnarls Barkley of this year....ubiquitous pop music and she could be way worse. LouieB

wow, you are really keeping track of this stuff. I really should go see them there. Do I have plans that night?? They are going to book in for the entire month of August at the Vic to help boost Chicago rock tourism.... LouieB

She has been touted by the Sound Opinions guys like the freaking savoir of popular music....frankly by next year I think we will be asking...who???? LouieB

Just for the hell of it I did a Google Map search on restaurants off this intersection and the number of restaurants within a two or three block radius is just ridiculous. There are literally dozens of really good choices. (I had not heard of Panes before, but it sounds pretty good too.) The problem in Lakeview is not finding a place, it is chosing one. LouieB

I like both songs...War on War and Impossible Germany. In fact I think IG is the centerpiece of SBS. Meanwhile we all know the What Light is the first single from the album......obviously.... its the one XRT and other stations are playing. This review is incomprehensible!!! LouieB

Not impossible...perhaps what I should have said was I REALLY wanted to here something else from AGIB rather than ALWAYS Theologians. It happens to be one of my faves off of AGIB, but XRT has a tendency to play the same song by an artist for years at a time. They have a huge record library but sometimes they sound like a mid-60s top 40 AM station with the small play llist. My friends and I used to have a joke about them playing "Spy in the House of Love" by the dBs every hour, because it seemed like that for years. LouieB
