New Yo La Tengo "Fade" Coming Out 1/15/13 & Tour Dates, etc.
LouieB replied to linclink's topic in Someone Else's Song
Maybe it didn't really sell that well first time out, so they are trying to pull in the same folks who bought it a year ago. As good as this album is it won't have deluxe appeal 10 years from now. They have to get us now or not at all. LouieB -
Uncle Tupelo is the most underrated band in rock history
LouieB replied to IRememberDBoon's topic in Just A Fan
Whoa, an Eleventh Dream Day mention. LouieB -
Snarky is okay in this instance. Bob's people (Columbia/Sony etc.) are re-selling a single that was on the charts 48 years ago. Good work on their part. LouieB

Hey no biggie, we both agree. As long as the dough keeps rollin in, they can make whatever vid they want. LouieB

The fact is that the economy continues to suck because neither the government, nor the private sector is hiring people. While the debt may be up, it is primarily because of two unfunded wars started by Bush and then put on the books by Obama. But actual government spending is way way down. Were there more government employees, both federal, state and local, buoyed by government spending, things might be better. But until the private sector decides to start pumping some dough into the economy in the form of hiring some folks, things are going to suck. I am surprised corporations, having started

Why would he even care? If it gets Like A Rolling Stone back on the charts, its all good. This was featured on the evening news last night. LouieB

Now that my kids are grown I don't do kids shows anymore. Would like to see him sometime though. Bucky Halker is a bit of a blowhard Guthrie cover guy. Nora is always great. Its funny that John is listed as a member of Autumn Defense rather than the much more famous Wilco though. LouieB

Poll: giving money to homeless/panhandlers
LouieB replied to Atticus's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Generally giving money directly to homeless people is a bad idea. I stopped doing it when a good friend who worked with the homeless suggested most spare change goes directly to drugs or alcohol. I do occasionally give individuals spare change when I feel I need a karma update or the person looks fairly together, or maybe totally out of it. It's hard not to sometimes, but as a general rule it is probably not a good idea. LouieB -
Your children's taste in music
LouieB replied to Ghost of Electricity's topic in Someone Else's Song
My daughter caught my musical interests and now plays them on her show "The Devil's Radio" on WDBX.org each Thursday at 10 CT. Check her out and she frequently plays Wilco. LouieB -
You dragging your kids to this? Should be fun. I hear Justin Roberts is really good (and has Gerald Dowd as his drummer.) LouieB

Indeed. How long before he actually pops one of these women. LouieB

Including me..... When it came out, The Brooklyn Side was named one of the best albums of the year by The Reader. It was a good one at the time. LouieB

Zimmerman has a right to have a gun and a girl friend or have we forgotten this America? For the life of me I can't figure out how he could land another intimate relationship? As for his gun ownership, I guess he gets to have one no matter what. LouieB

Maybe the concert movie I worked on will even come out sometime, or at least Mark the drummer said they are still interested in this being released. Been about 5 years so who knows. LouieB

Plan to pick this stuff up at the Bloodshot office sometime soon. LouieB

Well he had one big hit single. And an album with it you can still find in used record stores. LouieB

While it is always dicey to suggest best of collections, the Columbia two disk "The Essential" is actually a great comp of his best work, both early and late. I would pop for a used copy of that and then get the first three albums. LouieB

The Laurie Anderson piece is really remarkable and maybe the most reposted article on Lou that is going around. I always found it quite remarkable that they ended up together. LouieB

I am the same way. I buy lots of older records, much fewer newer records than I used to, and don't seem to find the time. My heirs can have a yard sale I guess. LouieB

Not a fan of his, although I do believe I sat right in front of him at a Wilco show at the Auditorium Theater back 10 years ago. Nothing he said in the show was illuminating at all. Any one of us could have ventured the same opinions and pronouncements. LouieB

I watched most of the show. It was pretty good I thought. LouieB

How many concerts do you attend in a normal year?
LouieB replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
I used to go to more, but I am getting old. LouieB -
Interesting article from the NY Times today. LouieB The Real-Life Stories Told in ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ By GUY TREBAY Snagged from among the thousands of condolences, recollections, posthumous mash notes and encomiums launched into the Twitter slipstream last week was a message from the actress Virginia Madsen to her 74,656 followers. Lou Reed was a “cool cat,” the award-winning indie star observed. What is more, Ms. Madsen wrote, the singer’s biggest hit and most famous lyric, “Walk on the Wild Side,” once served as “encouraging words for a young Virginia.” Encouragement is
