  1. maj dnab. ocliw si doog dnab! tahw si maj yawyna?
  2. Steely Dan is great, but get a life. it's for your own good. Life can be beautiful. This is just.............almost... just not funny.
  3. Can't we all just get along? Won't someone please think of the Children!!! P.S. LaughingDog - We get it. You like SBS, and you seem to have some sort of persecution complex. It's all good. Relax and let folks enjoy what they enjoy. That seems to be what others are doing. So, join in.
  4. This is what I love about Wilco. There is something for everyone. I love BT and ST. They are almost perfect, but not quite.
  5. The album isn't bad. It's just not what longtime fans were expecting. Jeff was calling it a r@b, soul/get down and boogie album in the press, and it was the first studio disc with Mr. Cline on guitar. I know I was expecting an album where the band took a lot of risks; however, it was more conventional than I had hoped for. It is a fine album, and I pop it in from time to time. It doesn't suck....it is wildly uneven and not what was expected. But its not my band, and Wilco can make whatever album they want to. I am enjoying TWL. It is closer to what I thought SBS was going to sound like.
  6. The Flaming Lips began in 1983. Clouds Taste Metallic...13 years in. The Soft Bulletin...16 years in. Yoshimi.....19 years in. As to Pink Floyd I agree. They had thier run from '72 to '77. (IMO). I kinda consider The Wall to be a good Roger Waters album.
  7. The Flaming Lips did not peak (IMO) until The Soft Bulletin sixteen years into their careers. Yoshimi (which is a great record) came 19 years in. It's all perspective and relative. Also, Wilco's albums take longer for me to digest than most bands because there is a great depth that takes time to understand (excluding AM and WTA). So, I am going to reserve my judgement until ....Iater.
  8. Ryman first night. Front row (AA) seats 9/10. I cheated and made a VIP ticket request from a family member. Shameless, but I had to do it. Sorry to brag. I can be a jerk sometimes. If it makes anyone feel better, I missed the residency and I've never been to a letters to Santa show. I guess it helps that my wife's grandmother was married to Joe Carter because I'm not a "VIP". Took ten years, but it just paid off(just kidding honey).
  9. 1)I was a huge Tupelo fan, and I bought A.M the day it came out. (I also bought Trace by Son Volt the day it came out. To be fair I thought Son Volt was the better band until I heard Being There. Being There changed my perspective about Wilco, and Summerteeth confirmed my belief.) 2) I first saw Wilco in Raleigh, NC in 1995 on the Lollapalooza(I realized it was actually HORDE after reading this thread. Oh, how time and alcohol have eroded my memory) tour. (However, Asheville 2003 at the Orange Peel is the best show I have seen the band play).
  10. To your first point above: That sucks. I have never had that problem at a Wilco show. At Dylan and Neil shows I have though... To your second point above: This is exactly what I'm saying. We agree.
  11. Every show I have ever been to, there is room to move around. Sometimes I want to stand so I move, and sometimes I want to sit so I move around. I would be curious to know if he was the only person standing in the whole place. I doubt it. And to play devil's advocate, why can't the squaters say "hey, this guy paid good money just like myself. I shouldn't throw things at him." To be honest this is a pointless debate. There is room for everyone, and I don't think that people should get upset. I do think it is selfish on both sides for someone to dictate another's concert. Don't like where
  12. The same he paid to stand. I am suprised by the reaction to this comment. I thought people would suggest that this person not let the minority ruin an otherwise good experience, and that he should move to another area of the venue. Sitting seems apropriate for an acoustic show, and sometimes I sit during slower numbers. But really? Standing and sitting should be each ticket holders choice (within reason.) For those about to sit, I salute you. It is a rock show nevertheless.....
  13. Sorry. Not new. Return to your game. I shouldn't butt in. I miss the "old" days aparently.....talkin' music with Mike and Jesse.
  14. Jeez you two....get a room, or IM your insults. Can't we all just get along?
  15. Sorry to offend....but would Mavis be on anyone's list if it were not for Jeff Tweedy as far as this site is concerned? Really? It is a good record, but listen to The Staple Singers and get back to me about where this album falls. Even Pa would be sad with the blind following.....pre J.T., nobody on this site gave them credit for anything. Just because Jeff is involved doesn't make it the "best". It is good, but I am getting bored by the fact that if Jeff is involved it becomes the "best of". I guess I have become out of tune........
  16. A full band version of "Tell me Mama" would rock.
  17. I had to think about this double negative for a moment. I think you are saying the lyric, "I miss the innocence I've known", does tap one of the album's major themes. I agree 100%. I also agree about the YHF sound. For me, the song fits perfectly within the context of the album as a whole. I prefer the album version's second verse to the live version's second verse though. P.S. I like double negatives.
  18. I agree. The version from Anodyne would be the cleanest.
  19. My bad. The quotation gave you answer a passive aggressive tone. I just wanted to know if I was hearing something that was or was not there. No worries, and I am sorry if I misread your intentions.
  20. No need to get snarky and quote me. It was an honest question. Thanks for the answer. Sounds like you really know your Wilco.
  21. There should be an option to choose both. I went with IAIL, but Monday is one of my favorites from the catalog as well. Out of curiosity, why these two? P.S. Do you think the background vocals on IAIL were meant to sound like "smoke pot, smoke pot, smoke pot, smoke pot"? And if this has been addressed in another thread, I'm sure Analogue Man will direct me.
  22. Time has told me You're a rare rare find A troubled cure For a troubled mind. And time has told me Not to ask for more Someday our ocean Will find its shore. So I`ll leave the ways that are making me be What I really don't want to be Leave the ways that are making me love What I really don't want to love. Time has told me You came with the dawn A soul with no footprint A rose with no thorn. Your tears they tell me There's really no way Of ending your troubles With things you can say. And time will tell you To stay by my side To keep on trying 'til there's no more to hide. So leave
