I love that song! I can't believe nobody mentioned this until now. I've only seen the Handsome Family once, but they are at least partially responsible for a couple of my all-time favorite songs.

Thax Douglas in the Trib Today
Preferred B replied to Dr. Steve Brule's topic in Someone Else's Song
The mentally ill guy in the Up series going into local politics has nothing to do with Thax's story. Unless Thax wants to go into local politics. Neil was a bright kid with a "good" upbringing who doesn't seem to want to or be able to hold down a paying job. Reading about Thax's background and some of the details reminded me of Neil. So I asked if anyone had ever seen the "Up" series of documentaries by Michael Apted. They are good. -

I don't disagree with a lot of what cryptique said in general. But it's pretty obvious from reading the article, and many other things Thax has written, that it's a little more complicated. Anyone ever seen the "Up" series of documentaries by Michael Apted? And Judy, that's a pretty awesome bit of trivia. -

Thanks for posting that, Sam. Sad and interesting ... I think they missed a farewell show, though. EDIT: You beat me to it! -
I don't even know what I think yet. But I know The Crane Wife 3 is pretty awesome.

Sorry to interrupt ... I saw a free preview tonight and laughed like crazy. Olive is an exact replica of one of our friends at age 7, which made it all the better. And I definitely want to get my hands on the soundtrack.

THEY LIVE AT THE PARK? That's the awesomest thing ever. I've never been to Yellowstone, but when I was at Muir Woods last summer I had an overwhelming urge to build a little cabin and live there. Of course, my plan also involved kicking everyone else out.

Wonderful.

Super happy birthday, Ms. Y! I wish I had the California "Evonne with coffee" montage on hand to post for this occasion!

I dunno, but I'll likely be seeing one of them headline at the Pabst Theater on October 3rd. That movie was awesome. It's how I learned to get the first whistle in Mario 3.

Wow, that's a lot of shows in a row.

Me too! When I was at prime prank phone call age, caller ID was just starting to make an appearance - but odds were still very good that people didn't have it. Great memories. I was a complete ding dong ditch wuss, though. Not to mention a tattletale. Some friends in sixth grade decided to go around to ding dong ditch a block or so away one evening, and not only did my friend Kellie and I refuse their pleading to go along, we actually went and told the parents of the ringleader.

Amazingly adorable. Did you take those, or did you go somewhere and have them done? -

Photographic evidence! And a few more pictures here, too.

Yes and yes! It's a really nice venue. Pretty posh for all the GA rock shows it seems to host. I don't know how a real GA lineup works there, since there seem to be about a million entrances (from the parking garage, from an attached theater, etc.) but I enjoyed it.

Is anyone's honest suggestion that if a couple of people happen to know how someone spells his name, they should spell it incorrectly on purpose to fit in? And play completely dumb if someone "helpfully" tries to "correct" them? Look back at who made a big deal out of people knowing this, please. There are definitely people trying to draw attention to themselves over this, but it was never originally Kris or Sam. Lord, but this is dumb.

That's hilarious! There should be a PSA about this. Wish I'd seen you last night, Eric. Next time...

It really was an excellent, unique show. I was hoping to see some familiar Wisconsin faces, but I didn't really notice anyone I knew besides the fine folks I came with and the men onstage. Anyone who hasn't been to the Pabst, I suggest you visit it sometime. Though the last time I was there was probably a school field trip, I was favorably impressed. And LouieB would have been pleased with the audience. If Nels and Glenn are coming to a town near you and you're up for some great, interesting music, I highly suggest you check it out.
