if you listen to the live (90's reunion) version of 'all tomorrow's parties' you'll realize it is real-time. I've seen cale live & he is very skilled w/ the piano. the boxed set is very worthwhile. one of my favorites is the version of 'the ocean' that is on there.

I wonder what our fascination or need to classify everything by decade is all about. There is crappy & good music at any given time. I have to agree that there was a lot of great music happening in the 70s; even disco had its moments. The Bee Gees disco-fusion was brilliant and (perhaps) unparalleled. I guess I'm biased because I was born in 1970, one of the first albums I remember getting into was a Kris Kristofferson album when I was 5. Because I was so young I was mostly just soaking up whatever was out there, like Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Electric Light Orchestra, Crystal Gayl

met him in tucson last year, indeed a very nice fella and fabulous guitarist.

yeah it's certainly heavy on the 'wilco' interpretation of his songs.

to see the exile songs in action you must see "ladies and gentlement, the rolling stones" ... available now I think only on bootleg dvd, but worth the $.
