I'm flying in from Virginia for the weekend and I got tickets for Saturday and Sunday night but I was unable to get Friday night. If anyone has a spare I would be eternally grateful. I'll even give you a couple of Wilco t-shirts or some other memorabilia item of your choice. Seriously, you would be doing me a huge favor!

This won't help you, skybluescott, but I'll just throw it out there for anyone else who might be in need of a ride. I'm flying in to Albany on Thursday morning, picking up a rental car around 11am. I'd be happy to give a lift to anyone whose timing is similar to mine.

I would certainly check out airbnb. That's what I do for almost all of my music travel. Luckily I have a niece who lives in SF, but I was looking into airbnb alternatives in case her place was not available and I saw several reasonable options.

Well, I'm in for the last 3 nights of the Fillmore run and I am beyond thrilled. But I just have to comment about the Riviera being a dump. Maybe it's not a first-rate venue like the Fillmore, but seeing a 6-night residency in Wilco's hometown was about as close to heaven as I can imagine. My memories of that Winterlude run are not even slightly diminished by a funky old theater. Besides, when you're on the rail it's all perfect!

Nooooo!!! Hoping this is just temporary. If you need monetary support to keep this up and running, Tommyjacobs, let us know. I'm addicted!

No, it's not for all venues. I think for this run of shows the only ones with these severe restrictions are the Fillmore shows. I too have bought off of StubHub before and never had a problem but I've never bought tickets to a show that was as severely restricted as these tickets are. Not to whine, but I would be flying into San Francisco from Virginia and no Fan Protect guarantee is going to reimburse me for my airfare and hotel reservation! So for the Fillmore shows I guess I'm going to buy them the legitimate way or not go period. BUMMER!

See, I don't even get how these tickets could be sold on StubHub. Supposedly all tickets are at will call and the person claiming them has to have the credit card that they bought them with. No one else is supposed to be able to pick up those tickets. So how the hell could a StubHub ticket be valid? I ask not just out of curiosity but because if I have to I guess I will use the bastards. But I sure don't want to fly across the country and have an invalid ticket.

Well, I was totally shut out of the Fillmore presale for 9/9, 9/10 and 9/11.

Nice to see the extra security restrictions Wilco is putting on the Fillmore shows. I'm sure scalpers will figure out some way to thwart the restrictions, but they sound pretty tight to me. Strict 2 ticket limit, will call only, must have the credit card you originally used when picking up your ticket.

I'm jumping up and down for you!!!

Ah, you've done it again, bbop, capturing the show details so well that you've created a perfect structure for the rest of us lucky attendees to fill in with embellishments. (And thanks for not calling out the woman sitting directly behind you who might have, occasionally, been singing along too loud!) The only comment I'll make at this moment is that the whole experience this year left me with a severe case of the warm fuzzies. The two shows were a study in contrasts, with night one being a bit more relaxed and off the cuff, while night two felt more studied and deliberate. This is definit

He also said that's how you can tell someone really has a life--when they get on the internet to tell you you're fat. He muttered something like "I preferred his younger, thinner songs." One more thing that I just remembered: He said they have a new album already completed. . . "But we're not releasing it. . . . yet." Something about how recently Star Wars came out and how their philosophy used to be "Leave 'em wanting less"

Thanks for such a thorough show report and for including so much from banter corner. That's a big part of what makes these shows so special every year--the sense of a warm camaraderie between Jeff and us in the audience. The loose, unpredictable nature of these shows is what makes them a can't miss event every year. One thing that always is so striking at these shows is how effortlessly he transitions between a casual, conversational style between songs and the sincere way he plays the songs, obviously working at putting each one across in its best light. To add a little bit to Banter Corne

And I'll second that!

Lou, as you know we are almost exactly the same age, and I'm so jealous I can't stand it. I've been irresponsible with money my whole life and consequently I'll be working till I drop dead. Still, despite my naked envy, I wish you all the best in your retirement!

Suggestions to replace a dying 160gb iPod Classic?
Magnetized replied to Magnetized's topic in Someone Else's Song
Since I started this topic, I thought I'd update you all. I did buy the iPad mini with 128GB storage on sale at Best Buy for $500. It took quite a while and several false starts for it to sync up correctly with my iTunes account but I think it's finally done now. Basically, if you have a lot of music files, it's going to take several syncing sessions to get everything transferred over, and a few random tunes wouldn't sync at all, but most of what didn't make it was disposable anyway. We have an Apple store near my home so I've had two technical assistance appointments with their "geniuses." -
Saw Marshall Crenshaw last night in a tiny venue. I'd forgotten how many good songs he's written. He has a distinctive, complex pop songwriting style.

Suggestions to replace a dying 160gb iPod Classic?
Magnetized replied to Magnetized's topic in Someone Else's Song
Got the mini today, along with the invisashield and a zagg case with keyboard. It's so darn cute! Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it syncs up with my itunes tonight, after I clear out some stuff that's clogging up the works. -

Magnetized replied to Magnetized's topic in Someone Else's Song
Well, Best Buy has the iPad mini 128 gb on sale for $499. It seems to be a legitimate sale--looks like all other regular retailers are still selling it for $599--so I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy it tomorrow. I'm too old and set in my ways to try any of these more elaborate alternatives, although my hat's off to you all for your inventiveness! Plus, I really depend on the podcasts (Fresh Air, Marc Maron, This American Life, etc.) almost as much as my music when I'm on the road, and I like the ease of keeping it all updated and synced through iTunes without a lot of effort.
