Pilgrimage Festival - Nashville, TN - Sept. 26-27
Magnetized replied to marino13's topic in Just A Fan
I think I have to go to this. The early bird passes are sold out but it's still just $172 for a 2-day pass. If anyone is interested in sharing a room send me a PM. I reserved a room at a nearby hotel with 2 double beds, cheap. -
Wrll, last time the whole name tag idea got subverted. The tags said "Hello I'm ____" and they got filled in with "drunk", "obsessed" etc. So have fun with it! Lol.

I believe Kidsmoke will be posting more details soon, but we definitely plan to have a VC table on the little outdoor courtyard bar. This will be manned early on Friday and maybe sporadically at various times throughout the weekend, as space and schedules permit. Among other things, we'll have name tags available. I would suggest putting your real name as well as your VC user name on them so you can be readily identified. In the past the biggest issue with this plan was people's reluctance to step up to a table of people they don't know and make their presence known. This is no time to

That was an amazing obituary posted at top. Quite a tribute.

This sounds like a lot of fun but I would be WAY too distractible to follow direction from Glenn!

Sorry you aren't able to make it, DrNo, but that was a classy move. It's nice to see Wilco fans exhibiting what I think of as a true Wilco spirit of sharing and generosity.

Nick Offerman Wants to Marry Jeff Tweedy
Magnetized replied to worldrecordplayer's topic in Just A Fan
There was a bit more in the chapter, but I don't remember anything that made me want to buy the book. I actually went into the store intending to buy it, but it's only in hardback. I'll probably pick it up when it's released in soft cover. -
Nick Offerman Wants to Marry Jeff Tweedy

I sat down in my local Barnes and Noble and read the whole chapter on Jeff Tweedy. I agree that if you're a big fan it's old news, but it's told through the humorous perspective of the ultra manly, cantankerous Ron Swanson. I thought the chapter was amusing but a whole book might get tedious. Probably best read in bite size chunks. -
http://www.wikihow.com/Start-a-Conga-Line 1There are a few possible methods to starting a conga line, and all of them require some degree of confidence. Realize that you are trying to get a room full of people to follow you in a line. You must be convincing. The first method is to ask a small group of your good friends to start a conga line with you. This way, when you decide the moment is right, you will already have a small conga started. Use this method if you are more shy. Some functions have a DJ. You can ask the DJ if he or she has any conga music, and if so, request that the music be

Richard Thompson, of course. Seen him many times before but he's always fantastic. I bought Mac DeMarco's 2 most recent albums but they just arrived today so I have't listened much yet. I get the feeling he may be this year's Foxygen. :-) Parquet Courts and Real Estate--I like both of them on records but haven't seen either live Shabazz Palaces--no clue, but I've heard good things about them and maybe first and foremost....TIG NOTARO. She can be brilliant!

Got it. I am just continually frustrated by my own inability to articulate what it is I find compelling about some music, especially when it's not lyrics or vocals. I'm always interested in the specifics of what somebody identifies as timeless, for instance. Unfortunately, I'm solidly in the "I don't know much about ______, but I know what I like" category. And I've listened to the album all the way through at least 3 times. I like it better each time I hear it.
-
I agree it's really good but what aspects of it do you find groundbreaking? Definitely not questioning your assessment --it's just hard for me to hear the elements that seem so innovative. And by the way, I actually thought his voice was fine for these songs. It's not a great or distinctive voice but fine.

What Live Wilco are you listening to now?
Magnetized replied to BobDylan'sBeard's topic in Just A Fan
Funny--I'm driving back (well, stopped for a break) from Richmond to Norfolk after St. Vincent and am listening to night 6. :-) -
Shortest Distance/Longest distance for a Wilco/Jeff show?
Magnetized replied to remphish1's topic in Just A Fan
Shortest distance within a mile from my home in Norfolk at the Norva. Or a few miles away in Virginia Beach on the Americanarama tour. Longest? A few trips to California. -
Well, sometimes that's Fuck! Oh! Missed out!

You are the devil, Tim.

I've only seen the list of who's playing each day, not the times of their sets. I too am really looking forward to seeing a full schedule. There are some things I really want to see (Tig Notaro) and I hope they don't overlap with other priorities.

Well then, I have one thing in common with George Saunders. Prior to the release of The Whole Love, Wilco streamed the album for some very limited period. For some reason, my computer held on to the last song on the album, which I listened to over and over and over. I couldn't get enough of it, plus I thought it would disappear at any moment. Too bad it didn't inspire any great works of art from me, but I still never get tired of listening to that song.
-
Cool for you Chicagoland people. Jeff is really doing some interesting non-musical things these days. I wonder what song George Saunders was listening to on repeat? By the way, this is a great collection by an masterful writer of short stories. I think this is the last story in the book and I haven't gotten to it yet, but some of the others are just wonderful.

If anyone is still looking for lodging, a room has just opened up at Blackinton Manor, an excellent B&B right in North Adams, about 3 miles from Mass MoCA. It's $195/night with a 3-night minimum. Here's a link to the actual room that is available. http://www.blackinton-manor.com/queenanne_room.php If interested, you can call the owner directly or book online at their website.

It'll be interesting to see how many different instruments they end up playing. Also, they'll probably have a few of the other artists sit in for a few songs. Richard Thompson and Nels could have an awesome acoustic shredfest!

Excellent news for us fans!

I think there was a Boston bus in the past, but I'm not sure. Maybe check the website or whoever's running the NYC one? Let us pause for a moment to reflect...THIS THING IS HAPPENING IN A MONTH!!! That is all. Back to our regularly scheduled lives....

If you ordered your tickets through Front Gate, I just called them and they said they usually are mailed out about 2-3 weeks prior to an event. They said that if someone has not received their tickets one week prior to the event give them a call and they can arrange for the tickets to be held at will call. it would probably be a good idea to look up your original ticket order number.
