  1. It's kind of hard to describe. Some of the songs are cut up and re-assembled from different sources. It could be distracting to a purist, but this approach works well with the FF material. You can purchase on the thrilljockey website. Stooka, I thought you might like that book. The illustrations to accompany the lyrics are pretty cool. K
  2. And another from Lynch... "We've met before, haven't we?"
  3. Same here. BB was a recommendation from a friend that I bought simply on her word alone. While it didn't grab me right away... I kept listening to it, and it grew on me. Stooka, have you seen the Blueberry Boat book? Cheers, k
  4. I saw them on the Super Furry Animals tour, and didn't enjoy it nearly as much as when I've seen them play a full set. At the 9:30 Club show, Eleanor didn't pick up an instrument and Matt didn't sing--a departure from other shows I'd seen. Were you at the DC show by chance, Whitty? I didn't stick around for SFA. Lyrically, they are all over the place. E's rapid fire lyrics are oftentimes non-sensical, and take the listener on a stream-of-consciousness storytelling ride that may be hard to follow for the casual listener. Acquired taste? Definitely. But one that I happen to enjoy. As fo
  5. I'm addicted to this album. It's all I've been playing ever since the 3 LP set (complete with free 320 kb/s mp3 download) arrived this week. The album is an anthology of live material, of recent tour vintage. No real specifics of origin of the recordings that I could find. Much of it is what I've come to describe as a "Franken-album". Tracks are chopped up, spliced back together, levels equalized and blended back into a cohesive body of song. Sounds strange, but it works. They rock insanely hard, and many tracks feature double-percussionists, which add a very heavy heartbeat to the alb
  6. Caitlin Cary is very active with her group Tres Chicas. They play in the Triangle quite a bit. Kevin PS: That Whiskeytown rumour seems to come around every 1st of April. I'm surprised to see it this late in the year.
  7. I know... it's quite funny, but it's an uncomfortable kind of funny... if you know what I mean. K
  8. I've been on W. Anderson kick here as of late and in the Royal Tenenbaum's is a favorite. And more recently, the post-river scene in The Darjeeling Limited where Adrien Brody is carrying the delicate body of the young Indian boy back to his village. One of the other young boys has hold of his friend (or brother's) limp hand, and it just chokes me up. Kevin
  9. Based on your previous posts, I think a Prius will suit you well.
  10. I know for a fact that the Mini Cooper can achieve better gas mileage than a Prius. Ask Isadorah. The Prius doesn't feel as solidly well-made as a German-built Cooper, and costs more than the Cooper. Not only that... the battery life is something to consider. Imagine, after finally making your last car payment after 60 mos. only to shell out an additional $5-7 to overhaul the array of batteries these things require. Not economically sound. Unless you have piles of money, and a sense of entitlement to throw around. Kevin
  11. I agree that one thing shouldn't be enough to keep you from buying a house. But, and I can't stress it enough, be at peace with your commute. When I first bought my house I was 20 mi. from where I worked. When I upgraded my career, the commute doubled. Now... I didn't buy the house with with a 40 mi. commute in mind, but this is the one thing that is really impacting my quality of life: the hours spent wasted in traffic, or conversely, barreling down the highway at 75 mph. It really is all about one thing: Location. Be at peace with it, wherever it is. That's about the only thing you can'
  12. Before you buy, drive the route you would take, at the time you would drive it, were you to already live in the neighborhood.
  13. In "Lost Highway" the scene when Patricia Arquette is waiting in Big Eddy's car at the garage and Lou Reed's "This Magic Moment" starts playing... Great juxtaposition of sight and sound IMHO. Kevin
  14. I think she might have been a She-ent.
  15. I thought so too. I guess they reconciled? Yo ne say.
  16. This isn't so far back in the catalog... but I could see them doing "After the Garden" together... with some righteous guitar solos all Nels'ed up and shit. K
  17. I was a huge fan back in the day, and although I've been lazy and haven't really kept up with them, I'm willing to give 'em another listen. I must admit though, that when I saw them at ACL Music Festival in '05 they seemed really boorish and drunk on-stage. That might be par for one of their shows, but it seemed like Noel was irritated with Liam at his behaviour. Kevin
