Spoon - Ga x5 Blitzen Trapper - Wild Mountain Nation White Stripes - Icky Thump Feist - The Reminder Ted Leo - Living With The Living Great year all around though: begin introduced to The National, Dr Dog, Ted Leo, and others has been great. I finally "get" something by Radiohead with this new album, but still don't think it's the greatest stuff in the world. I've even attended some outstanding shows, so I've been really happy with 2007.

Well when the artist creativity is no longer there, you need to "reinvent" yourself somehow, correct? At least he's not randomly buying into middle-eastern stuff like Madonna did. However, the music is just as bad.

The Decemberists - Vic Theatre October 28, 29th

I'm not gonna lie: that "Short Of It" setlist, aside from the 5 songs EP, is very disappointing. No July July or We Both Go Down Together? I was thinking of getting tickets to the Milwaukee gigs, but I've seen them 3 times this year already and those lists convinced me that's probably enough. And I didn't realize the 5+ minute Perfect Crime was really that short. -
I STILL don't understand Kid A and that's where I started. I also still don't really like Radiohead a whole lot. Coincidence? Maybe. But I'll take The Bends or In Rainbows over the rest of it anyday.

All I've got left for '07 is the Dylan covers and The Hives new one (which I've already downloaded). I'm pretty much done with new music and live shows for the year (mostly thanks to my financial situation). However, I'm busy really digging deeper into some past albums I've been meaning to get.

Was at the show in Chicago @ Metro last night. VERY heavy on the Bejar tunes on the setlist. It was great to see him and Neko with the band. Good stuff. And since I can't remember the order, here are (most of, maybe all of) the songs they played: Mass Romantic: Mass Romantic, Slow Descent Into Alcoholism, Jackie, Letter From An Occupant (closer) Electric Version: From Blown Speakers, Laws Have Changed, Testament To Youth In Verse Twin Cinema: Twin Cinema, Bones Of An Idol, Use It, Bleeding Heart Show, Jackie Dressed In Cobras, Sing Me Spanish Techno Challengers: My Right Vs Yours, All The

2007 has been a stinker for indie rock

I can think of perhaps 100 better albums since 2002 than In Rainbows. Oh yeah...I said it. That being said, I'm about to try again with it. But expectations are low. -
What an awesome two weeks of music I've got coming up

I'm almost done with my run of shows. Having a very limited budget at the moment, I've still managed to have fun with different people at all of these shows. 9/30 - The Hives @ Metro in Chicago 10/9 - Wilco @ The Rave in Milwaukee 10/14 - Wilco @ ISU in Iowa City 10/19 - New Pornographers @ Metro in Chicago Good stuff (except for the sound @ The Rave). -
Andrew Bird's set (if I remember correctly): Intro Sovay Nervous Tic Damn You For Being So Easy-Going (don't know official title - if you know, please tell me) Dr. Stringz Scythian Empires Edit: Nevermind on the unknown song title: it's called "Why?" and from "The Swimming Hour" (or "Fingerlings" if you're so inclined).

Which songs is he on bass for Loose Fur? Or is it all of them. I don't think I've ever looked and my CD booklets are all packed away right now.
-
Exactly. I'll be upset if Dan isn't there for Friday's Chicago gig.

I got one of the setlists and Via Chicago and Cali Stars were supposed to kick off the 2nd encore but they skipped them (most likely due to time constraints). In any case, what an amazing show. Much, much better than Milwaukee. My girlfriend and I drove 7 hours round trip for this gig and were not disappointed.

When I was getting into the Rolling Stones (as a 24 year old, it took awhile since they're not so culturally relevant anymore, at least, not in my music circles) the consensus was to check out Exile first and foremost. Like the Blender blurb suggests, the albums that precede Exile are just as solid and the highs are higher highs than on Exile IMO. I do agree, however, that all these lists are trite, mind-numbing crap. But...I do totally agree with their Radiohead assessment too because The Bends is still the only album that doesn't make me change the music ASAP.

I done graduated with me duh-gree in English last year. I'll be there with my girlfriend (her first show). See you all there.

I've actually been quite happy with how little is being played off AGIB. Now if I could just talk them into finally removing Spiders from the setlist every night... AGIB has actually turned into my least favorite Wilco album over time: I just don't feel it's held up. I listen to AM more (maybe simply because I like to play the guitar to several of those songs) these days than I do AGIB and have been happy to see only a few tracks showing up each night off that release. Come to think of it, at the Milwaukee show we got more Being There than AGIB.

Yeah, I've heard better acoustics in the Allstate Arena... They coulda played the Pabst as Tweedy did solo last year. That place is amazing with great sound, a great setup: everything better than Eagles Ballroom.

I'm gonna put this as lightly as I can... Fuck The Rave. What an atrocious scene for a venue. Tonight was my 30th Wilco show and the first time I've ever been disappointed. Just an awful, awful venue. The sound was muddy at best and the highlight for me was Jeff sans PA: I could actually understand what he was singing! If I didn't know the words to every song already, I'd be lost as my two friends were who hadn't seen Wilco before. Rough. Hopefully Sunday in Iowa City is a redeemer.
-
Well, I'm happy to say I'm deflowering two Wilco virgins this evening and bringing along another friend to his 5th Wilco/Jeff experience, so the 4 of us should have a kick ass time despite all the negativity I've read about the venue. I have now managed to sucker just about every friend into a Wilco show with me. Come to think of it, every close friend of mine has now attended a show with me. Awesome. The two that are going tonight have been the toughest to sell on a Wilco show as one of them is a B96-type music fan (who enjoys the Decemberists for some reason) and the other loves medioc

Me + 3 friends. Good times ahead.

Rick Astley is my hero. If only every song could be written so well. On a complete side note: I'm currently working on a solo acoustic version of "Together Forever" by the aforementioned Rick Astley. It's not going well.

I haven't even thought about seeing a Jay Farrar-led act since him and Mark Spencer absolutely wowed me to sleep shortly after Sebastopol was released. A UT reunion would be the only way I'd see Farrar. And I'd be happier than a pig in sh*t.

This Pads/Rockies game is exactly the kind of matchup I've been dying to see for some time. 14 innings back and forth. Just awesome.

Agree 100%. His pop stuff is downright painful but the Trio album is pretty sublime.

Apparently Ryan's a big deal now...
